My definition is simple. An asspull is something that:
1) is solely created to solve a problem for characters that they can't overcome otherwise.
AND
2) Absolutely no one sees it coming, and in hindsight readers still don't see any hint or groundwork for it in the past.

So by your definition it doesn't apply in either case, Genya was established with his demon eating powers precisely 45 chapters ago, eating anything made out of a demon works as he did with Hatengu, and now with Kokushibou pieces of his hair has fallen a few chapters ago, and his blade shattered after to show it is a living thing out of his body.

I think that matches pretty closely to my definition of an asspull. Where I think we disagree a little is that I don't think it should include any character (only primary ones) and it shouldn't be limited to just problems but rather include plot developments that benefit primary characters in a big way without it being set up first.

While their interactions were really fun, there was nothing of that sort in the manga. When Gayuu thought of the people important to him, sadly her face never even appeared, nor he showed any strong reactions towards her death. That's just because people are dumb and destroy the meaning of words by using it where it doesn't apply. An asspull is something that's figuratively pulled out of a character's ass. There is no buildup to it and no sense that this accomplishment is the culmination of something the characters have been working toward. It's also known as a deus ex machina; a literary term that has existed for thousands of years. The writer forces his hand to get his characters out of a situation they are unable to escape on their own, and it breaks the suspension of disbelief. 9/10 times when anons use "asspull" it just means "thing I don't like", like almost every buzzword that gets run into the ground.
