No, it's just that the OVA includes a lot of irrelevant shit and introduces many characters way too early, changing the source material. The new series is actually much better paced than the same episodes of the OVA, and it's more faithful to the novel, too.

Reinhard is one of the few characters whose design still works pretty well in 2018. It's the other people that I can't stand. Like Kircheis losing his wide, hopeful doelike eyes, or Yang looking like a standard bishie instead of being somewhat unkempt and lazy.
