Nope, but I'll be honest. 5Ds final Arc was pure kino. I've never been so in tuned to wonder what's going to happen after each episode. I haven't got that feeling in a while towards ygo

Yes, especially the WRGP and the final arc. The battles against Team Unicorn, Team Taiyo and Team Ragnarok were peak Yu-Gi-Oh. Also, the WRGP was one of the very few YGO tournaments that actually felt like a real tournament.

The second half does bug me a lot as it largely discarded the "5D's" aspect and became much more the 3D's show where everyone else was completely shat on. The filler episodes were also total junk. But the WRGP and shit like the Crash Town arc, and of course the final arc, are all fantastic. I just wish they didn't chickenshit out of Z-ONE being Yusei himself, that was an obvious backpedal that really annoys me.

Actually probably the best showcase of using duels for visual storytelling in the series.

If not for the constraints of budget and shilling cards, I'm confident the Action Duel concept would've grown to be the hypest evolution of the game in terms of the series as a shounen anime.

Storywise, being a "shitty duelist" doesn't apply when you're in a shadow game with custom rules. If Marik didn't make losing life points break you down, he would probably not run a burn/torture deck. Bakura's first duel in the anime straight up killed you if you lost your monster avatar not if you lost the duel. Marik being a fractured alternate personality didn't get affected by the pain, and Bakura couldn't be consumed by the shadow realm. Let's not get into the fact that Pegasus straight up just reads minds.
