That's what a good ending looks like for those girls. IIRC Takahiro wanted to go ahead with the mass produced Sakimori plot line and all out war but the director (and producer, I'm not sure about this) wanted to end it peacefully because he didn't want to make the Yuusha suffer anymore, and then the executives only gave them 6 episodes for season 2. The entire script of S2 had to be rewritten just before production began because they couldn't agree with each other on where to take the story. It was a disaster.

Yes. S2's epilogue was just a bunch of still images with no voice because the dialogues were so long they couldn't fit. In the last Mankai Matsuri, the seiyuu live acted those on stage.

I liked how uncanny and creepy the show was, the haunting music, the feeling of something thats not really right and the cute girls trying to do something good while getting used and kept alive as objects continue doing things and their friendship being the only thing that kept them going in the end while giving away pieces of their bodies to save one another.
I get the need for a happy ending, bitter sweet stuff is hard to swallow sometimes but it would work.
Spinoffs are always possible but the sense of mystery wouldnt be there.

NoWaYu was pretty great though, and there was still plenty of room for mysteries to be built and expanded upon. I never read the sentinels spin-off, but even so, it's kind of sad to see how Takahiro was setting up pieces and building his world only to get axed when the series was just about to really set off. That must have been the disappointment of the decade in anime for me.
