This OVA "Bobby's Girl".
I posted it in yesterday's thread but got no reply. I was interested because the character designer is Akimi Yoshida (Banana Fish's author) and it made me daydream about how a possible anime of her most popular work could have looked like in the 80s, instead of the poor adaptation it received one year ago.
Also the studio is Madhouse.

Just finished Gundam X. Wasn't very good but I found it a bit charming nonetheless. I liked how the main character was openly and unapologetically into the main girl.
Felt like watching the optimistic version of Zeta.

>cyber city uedo
I've had this downloaded for a while, think I'll make it my next pick.

How is it so far? I've downloaded it recently, I need to watch more Dezaki anime.

My knowledge of pre-1960 anime is really shoddy so I've been going through a lot of older films.

It's pretty damn good, it's like a mix of lupin, barbarella and a bunch of other stuff

>Cat's Eye
I'm almost at the end of this one. I remember watching it as a kid for the comedy and leotards, and watching it now, there's not a lot more to see. Main plot is barely touched, and the show is quite dumb.
I've also seen:
>Bander Book
Weird-ass Tezuka movie with transforming-girl titties (contain your fetishes, Osamu), Ridley from Metroid, and Black Jack as a space bandit (basically Harlock).
>Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai
Should have seen this one way before, it's peak Oshii. Awesome soundtrack from Kawai if you like his Patlabor work.
>Flying Luna Clipper
Interesting art-piece, but don't bother if you're not into old computers/pixel-art/weird shit.

>that description of Bander Book

we don't need to have this thread every 2 days

but these threads are the only threads on Yea Forums that matter

I agree, but let's give anons time to watch new (old) stuff.

Oh, it's something.
Bander has the same origin story as Superman, except he's rescued by an alien queen with big tits. He has two love interests: his NBR imouto and a flowergirl princess. He's dropped on a desert planet with robots and aliens like in Star Wars, where he fights Dracula. Movie is full of hippie shit about how human are evil and are destroying planets with fighting and pollution and there's a few "educational" segments about humanity and the story of the Earth. Bander must fight against an authoritarian president and his evil computer. There's time travel out of nowhere.
The 70's were wild.

I'm totally sold.

Zeta Gundam
Tomino being allowed to go full Tomino for the first time is going beyond my expectations actually, its writing and pacing is something else

i've never seen any harlock, but im watching arcadia of my youth and it's really good.

I wasn't even born then yet lmao.

>arcadia of my youth
The movie or the TV series?

the movie

Oh, the movie is great, glad you're enjoying it

this
but also this

Agent Aika feels like a strangely sobering reminder than trashy anime plots have existed forever

it did look quite nice, though

Kinnikuman
Shame it doesn't get much traffic around here.

I will finish Cutey Honey 73 in about a week. From there, I suppose I'll move onto Cutey Honey 90's, the manga and then the anime. She's a very cute girl, you know.

I just finished Gosenzosama. A bit of it went over my head, but I loved it. I would like to see Oshii do more of that stage show style of visual presentation and dialogue, and despite the OVA being so comedic I’m surprised how heavy the final scene of episode 6 hit me. It’s probably Chiba’s best sound design job as well, the sound effects and their placements were perfect, and all the voice actors did an even better job than they did in Urusei Yatsura, the voice work of the mother especially. I also loved the animation, not flashy at all, but so nuanced and well worked out, I can see why this secured Utsunomiya’s legacy as a visionary.

I watched Dagger Of Kamui, and while it was among the most visually stunning films I’ve ever seen, utilizing awesomely creative full and limited animation, great analog light effects, cool shot composition, and all that, it felt like it should have been three movies instead of one, the drama and pacing didn’t work out at all because of how compressed everything was. This could have easily become a favourite for me if the screenplay was just not worth commenting on, but this was bad in the same way the G999 movie was. Rintaro seems to usually be at his best doing short abstract pieces like Take the X Train or Labyrinth, rather than trying to present an epic narrative. Metropolis was an exception.

Orguss 2 had me questioning why I was so much more interested in the plot of a mecha ova than the actual mecha action( they actually had a few episodes without any I believe) but I liked it. I’m a sucker for Mikimoto girls and a simple war story. It featured other staff from Gundam 0080 as well, and you could definitely tell. The characterization and development of the two leads’ relationship was good, it just needed more fleshing out of some of the villains. Manning had a notably compelling personality that enhanced the show, he’s clearly morally lacking, but manages to be charming despite that.

No offense but how people enjoy Go Nagai stuff is beyond me. I remember reading Maou Dante and Devilman, they were stupid as fuck

>but this was bad in the same way the G999 movie was.
But that movie isn't bad at all

Akira. Fucking based.

I'm pretty sure it's people who don't really care about plot/characters and just want crazy weird shit.

fuck off, xpearse

I rather enjoyed the lessons on Jungian psychology and Gnosticism in Devilman Lady.

With Devilman it’s hard to fully explain the attraction, for me it just comes together so well as a story that completely subverts its initial moral premise ( Devil with the heart of a human) and winds up being incredibly tragic in the way everything falls apart and concludes with a nihilistic pacifism. Not that having themes makes a work good, but I find that somehow the very simple schlocky writing and sketchy brutal artwork, that increases in its deformity and emphasizes harder and more unrestrained line work as the situation gets more and more unhinged and dire, brings out the themes in a poignant and direct way that makes them hit all that much harder and really sells the apocalyptic descent of the plot.

Pacing critiques is a pretty hard thing to make a strong justification for. But it just felt way too compressed to me. I usually love old anime films, but that’s one of the few, like Phoenix 2772, that I really was not into at all. The final planet destruction sequence was god tiered though, I’ll give it that.

I started reading Pet Shop of Horrors. The quality of the scans after volume 1 is unbelievably shitty. I went on a quest to all my favorite used book stores but they had nothing, so I've got volume 2 in the mail from Amazon.

bump!

Don't do that. Just let the thread die.

Currently watching Stop! Hibari-kun and it's pretty nice. Was ready to drop it if it wasn't engaging enough but it's legit good. Got used to the artstyle pretty quick now it's just tons of fun, with a few stinker episodes here and there.
How does it compare to Urusei Yatsura, planning on checking that out next cause it seems to have a similar feel.

If you read Devilman and walked away just thinking it was stupid as fuck, I can't really change your mind.

Attached: 091.png (780x1220, 240K)

Is it not though?

Decided to get /m/-pilled and watch Ideon.

Attached: the cucks.jpg (1920x1080, 382K)

It is stupid but at it's core there's some genuine "soul".

Attached: DEVILMAN_v01c03_p138.png (788x1222, 127K)

Holy fuck everyone needs to stop using this word.

In the 90s on any wed night around bedtime? Child porn on hi8 and vhs. Umm... starblazers, james bond jr. Mummies alive, power rangers.

>after they made a live action KITE movie with samuel l jackson
What the flying fuck? Why havent I heard about this before

Attached: 1511851188963.png (625x482, 355K)

>this dude doesn't like God Nagai
I pity you.

Onegai Touch Touch koko ni Touch

bruh they literally saying nothing

Exactly, "soul" and "soulless" are empty words

Watching Devilman Lady, it's ok so far but the story change is pretty lame, I really wanted to see fit Jun and the whole Akira Fudou clusterfuck later through, it was retarded but charming when I read it. But the whole Jun is now a model/Demons are now THE NEXT STEP in evolution really rustles my shit. On ep03 right now, if it doesn't get any good in bout 5 episodes then I'm dropping it. Would be a shame really, I was looking forward to edgy 90's debiruman style shit, and it just ain't the same without the Lucifer/demons were pre-biblical beasts angle.
Man, I love Oedo, but it really left me wanting more. I wanted to see more missions with those 3 guys, maybe even working together to take some big fucker down or defuse a near catastrophic situation like in the first episode. I like Ninja Scroll more because of that, It feels complete by the end. So yeah , watch Oedo, like now.

kys newfag

I'm watching Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water. I've made it to episode ten and so far it's been pretty good. I feel sorry for Anno. It's messed up how nobody cared about the show, causing him to spend half a decade in a major depressive episode.

I'm watching CCS.
