why wasn't saint seiya as big as dragon ball? it was more violent, had better effects for its time and great music. what failed?

It's still popular, just of course not DB levels big. But mostly everyone except burgers knows of Saint Seiya.
Blame your pathetic attempts at dubbing this.
not cool enough
dragon ball style was easier to replicate so people were able to recognize it more easier. you need more level of attention to replicate a style like saint seiya thanks to shingo araki's way to adapt the manga to anime which is harder for children to do
dragon ball had the characters flying, while saint seiya had them almost dead after every fight
When it aired in the US it was too late, was horribly botchered and didn't even air in full, so the US-dependent English-speaking webspace isn't too culturally aware of Saint Seiya.
SS does in fact have a sizeable fandom in real, non-retarded countries
all his fans
i mean, dragon ball fans hate GT and super is somewhat still in debate if they should like it or hate it
It didn't last as long and it had a huge hiatus between Poseidon and Hades chapters.
It also wasn't as normalfag friendly as Dragon Ball.
saint seiya had a lot of talk about justice and being a goody two-shoes, meanwhile dragon ball was all about who could scream the most and throw punches
It didn't aired where I am from so I'm watching it now and Dragon Ball is easier to get into. It's fun and qurky and full of adventure. Saint Seya is all about seriousness and obligations and muh honor and I got bored out of it by episode 5.
only latin monkeys liked it
> usa has shit taste
Pottery
>US fags still believes in this
Cope. It's one of the top 100 best selling mangas of all time and still one of the most profitable Toei franchises, worldwide AND in Japan. It's just a shame that they don't invest animation money on it.
Because only the first animated arc is good, then it became boring, then it became the same shit over and over again. Kurumada has an ugly technica, even back in the day it was kinda ugly. Araki and the OST are responsible for the success than the manga itself. Also the anime had a retarded american dub, that's why it has been rebooted to the likening of ameritards.
No, I actually find GT tolerable after watching Super
>Because only the first animated arc is good, then it became boring, then it became the same shit over and over again.
The same thing could be said about DBZ and most fighting shounens.
But DBZ already had a huge fan base coming from the original DB, so we were somewhat got used to it, also DBZ still had some humor and we even got a new lead characters: Gohan, Gotenks, Vegito. SS never pass the lead from Seiya and doing asspulls powerlevels. Lost Canvas has a more legit and better history than the original Hades arc or even Next Dimension.
And just about everyone else, except Burgers.
Also europeans, arabs and chinks so is around 4/5 of the population. Assburgers have shit taste.
It was in France.
Saint Seiya isn't popular in the US compared to other countries
Japan, China, France, Brazil
blame Cartoon Network for this
they didn't do a good job bringing Saint Seiya to the United States
>Lost Canvas has a more legit and better history than the original Hades arc or even Next Dimension.
Your post was good before this part.
Saint Seiya was never going to be big in the US anyway The heroes kill their human enemies, and in most cases those enemies aren't THAT evil or even they're pretty cool guys who happen to be in the opposite side. America glorifies war and the veterans for killing starving farmers on the other side of the war (preventive war they say) while they have the world's biggest militar complex but they can't deal with anything beyond cape morality. They're weird like that
Wasn't its popularity in France what popularized the name "Knights of the Zodiac"around the world?
No, I had fun with Super, but I hate GT.
You known deep inside you it's true and you wish Kurumada wrote LC rather than ND.
Classictards are so blinded.
It was big in Latin America and Europe.
It aired years late in the US
Botchered, without the original OST, changed character backgrounds and censored
All because some asshole that tried to copy it in his comics sued when they tried to air it in the mid 90's, obvioulsy didn't work out
They tried to sue TOEI again in the mid 00's for a billion dollars, obviously no judge took them seriously
Yes, France also give us the the opening used in Spain and Latam.
French op
Spanish op

Fix'd
Toys sales failed.
They didn't even tried to put them on sale on the U.S. iirc
DIC ruined any chance of the series' popularity in the west.
>popularity in the U.S. and Canada
fix'd
It is still huge in mexico, but Toei doesn't try to make it huge anymore and when they try they go full retard
I still liked Omega overall
They failed where it matter the most: Japan, then Bandai cut the money for the anime and eventually the manga was axed.
It was more complicated than that. There was the economical crash and the beginning of the stagnation and Kurumada having chronic fatigue, therefore asking Shueisha to abruptly cancel the manga in exchange of releasing 12 gaidens every month for each gold saint (until today, Kurumada hasn't released a single one). SS was the original shounen fujobait so in september 1991, Newtype announced a small interview with Kurumada stating that after receiving 300000 fan-mails asking for an anime for the Hades arc, Toei would start an OVA series in december 91. The same year, SMAP released the infamous SS musical so the franchise wasn't precisely dead. Unfortunately there were internal fights among Kurumada and Shueisha execs for the Silent Knight Sho fiasco. Basically Kurumada followed Shueisha's instructions and then he got the blame for the failure (typical Japanese mentality) so Shueisha wanted to send him to a seinen magazine with small readership. Instead of acting like a good bugmen and accepting his punishment, Kurumada took his toys and went to Kadokawa to make B't X. Apparently that kinda left SS in a coma during the 90s
Saint Seiya had no staying power and the dub was trash. It's a shame it didn't pick up a following. It was easily marketable in US.
No, I'm glad that ND is just like the classic even in it's flaws. LC is too shojoesque for me.
Very few things are as big as DB.
ND a shit
See It never had a chance.
Omega was decent and underrated.
Still make bigger sales numbers that any of the spin-offs can only dream.
You, I like you.
the dub was complete shit
just see the US version of the opening
and the Japanese version
it wasn't a sucess because some bullshit "American way"
it was just lazyness from Cartoon Network
Did they change the soundtrack like DB?
In the 80's, the anime was more popular than Dragon Ball in Japan.
Canon 13 years old titty monster.
So damn true
>had better effects for its time
It did not.
Dat CGI cosmo effect was dope
>Be Jabu love Saori/Athena
>Let her beat you as kids
>Be her faithful little lap dog
>Seiya returns
>He Humiliates you in front of Lady Athena
>Get curbs stomped by that damn trap Shun
>Lady Athena clearly favors Seiya over you
>Dream of touching her body but you know that'll never happen
>Go to sleep every night knowing Seiya has got that booty on lockdown
Being Jabu is suffering
According to Assassin, Jabu becomes a buttler at the Kido mansion while Saori-san takes care of Seiya still suffering from his old wound by Hades
The power of the MC is without equal
Still her lap dog lol
Netflix KoTZ retcon Seiya into Athena's consort prince de-facto
this franchise is as dead as, the hetreosexual desire of the average otaku
It was gay as hell
It would've done better if someone like Viz picked up, and released it to VHS in the 90's.
it was under legal dispute, no one could release it during the 90's in the US because of that
>the Silent Knight Sho fiasco
What's that?
The next title Kurumada made for Shueisha after Saint Seiya was over. Like everybody was copying Kurumada, a trend that continued through all the 90s, Shueisha wanted Kurumada to create another Saint Seiya but Kurumada wasn't feeling it, not that Shueisha cared. The manga was released and it was a huge flop. It had an interest concept though, I wish it was continued.
Fun fact: When Kurumada signed with Kadokawa, he asked total creative freedom to chose the theme he was going to work with.
They asked him to make another manga like Saint Seiya, he did against his wishes
I never knew about this, I'm digging the armor designs
Damn.
i wish i can go back in time when omega was released, felt like i miss some fun part of shitposting
Damn, this thread was better than i expected. It has a lot of information i didn't know about saint seiya. Good thread.
you have to admit when their faces distorted the shining and all the background effects were really good, even to this day
To be fair, Seiya may look like a troll now but he'll become a male model after puberty
what was the concept?
You have to be successful in America to be a worldwide household name. Which Dragonball did and Saint Seiya didn't
>anime has to be successful in America to be considered such
>implying nips will ever care about gaijin burger opinion
youtube.com
Sainy Seiya = all the characters are homos
Did you ever see any character scoring a girl? No!
Dragon Ball on the other hand we have Master Roshi who loves woman.
We see Vegeta impregnating Bulma. And more.
the shitposting was eneternally complaining about the armor designs and the school shit that only laster 3 episodes and was never, EVER seen ahain
Omega was good all things considered, specially knowing that it was rushed after they forced a Xros Wars second season right after the first finished and flopped hard and theyw ere still trying to finish Sailor Moon Crystal, hence the simple armor designs
Then they went full retard again at Toei and had Omega had a second season right after with a different writer that ignored any relationship stablished
Toei is just retarded when it comes to trying to keep a IP alive after they find success unless it was precure until DBS and even then they struggled during the first 2 arcs
how long is Omega?
54 eps each season
h-how many seasons?
2
Dragon Ball was funnier and more approachable.
What are u talking about? It's literally one of the biggest anime ever. As big as DB in many and even bigger in some countries.
If you mean in the USA well it was a mix of American shit taste and awful dubbing.
SS it's like soccer or Formula 1 in that regard. While the anime is very messy it's terrific compared with shit like DBZ or One Piece.
man, if only kurumada was able to simply focus on SS, we wouldn't have the mess we have with hades arc and the sanctuary movie
Kurumada's autism is a blessing and a curse. Without his autism, he wouldn't be able to create Saint Seiya in the first place but because his autism, he insist with making mangas nobody care except him. It's complicated
i can understand him somehow, he probably doesn't want to be known just for his magnum opus but be more like osamu tezuka having an anthology of different works that are all equally appreciated
I appreciate his intense hate for women.
