The issue isn't that it treats itself seriously, anime being self-conscious is a suffocating trope as is, the issue is that most isekai FAIL at serious stuff like plot, character development, villain motivation etc.
And they fail purely because the current wave of isekai is caused by literal vacuum of production ideas in the industry for the last couple years. Studios and publishers jumped on the isekai bandwagon because it was FRESH and immediately involved bunch of yesterday teenagers from "let's become the novelist!" contests who get shit pay and editors breathing down their necks.
Given time the hype would settle and maybe less shitty isekai novels would appear from now experienced writers to be picked up for adoption.

And the attack was really strong and probably would have killed Taichi.
