Admit it Yea Forums, the only reason you hate Okada and this movie is because she achieved something Yamada hasn't. Making and directing an original story on debut and making it heart wrenching to the point of making Shinkai envy her.

I actually rewatched Maquia recently to see whether or not I was biased when I first watched it. Nope, the ending is still offensively bad. Pic rel is what the film should have ended with. Everything that follow is insippid manipulation and poorly scripted and brings the movie down from 7-8/10 to a 5/10. I still can't believe how obnoxiously bad those final 5 minutes are.

>I WANT TO SEE MY DAUGHTER
>but for no more than 5 seconds

The film lurches from unjustified drama to unjustified drama. It doesn't put in the work for you to care about the characters and their lives, particularly the secondary characters are abysmally handled as if Okada only remembers they exists for a few minutes at a time.
And so here the son's dying at the end and all you have to show for it is the presumption of motherly feelings onto a character that's shown you very little of who she is or what she's feeling. Even the son's friend has to spell out and bluntly state her feelings that haven't really been portrayed on screen.
It was so Okada I just sat their wondering why I expected anything different. She dreams up the juiciest affecting scenes she can muster and then just shoves them into her works without building to them in any meaningful or narrative cohesive way.

It was unironically better than koe no Katachi and Liz. The cold harsh truth that kyoanusfags won't accept.

I watched the first 10 minutes of Maquia and then stopped watching because it was shit.

Watched this a week ago, kinda hesitated because i thought it just gonna another Okada's shit and turn out really enjoyed it. Also Maquia a cute.

I don't hate Okada. He is my favorite.

I watched it on the plane, because there wasn't anything better, but it was kinda cringe to be honest with you bro.

Felt like a 12 episodes story condensed in 2 hours. Everything after the timeskip to grown up Eriel felt a confused and poorly paced mess, especially the "politic" plot and whatever the fuck Maquia's prisoner friend story was.
