It varies. A good bunch are JP -> CN -> ENG translations, and some books like OT21-22 are done patchwork-style by numerous people translating the hype parts, including some R/a/ildex anons. I don't remember if Js06 redid stuff, but the credits in the PDFs should have you covered.

I feel like behind every terminology and character Kamachi has thrown and barely explored: Dark May Project, Produce, Full-Tuning, there's a full story behind it, and when Kamachi comes to it in the main story he references a them with an entire history of its own, something that has happened in the world of Raildex but the characters never know about it or only small tidbits of info is revealed.

I considered it was a school higher-up or their boss but the wording doesn't make it sound like one. Also "lately" makes it sound recent.

Also if the school just wants their name I don't think they'd care if they actually showed up or not.

There's probably overall way more useful Espers than magicians though. There's probably what, a few thousand magicians in the world? There's around 1.8 million Espers, and around 700,000 of them are at least Level 1. So if you can be a magician then great, but there's not a public magician school you can go to, you can only become a magician if you're in the "know".

The Agnese nuns are actually not that bad as long as they have access to the full Catholic catalog of spells. That one spell they spammed in NT10 was an effective IB countermeasure, which is why Touma had to convince Agnese to throw the fight and let him go instead of just punching her.

And the basic stories used for magic are almost entirely public domain works/legends. There might be some trouble in realizing that you can actually do it and setting up your mana to jumpstart your first spell, but as long as you don't need a grimoire the knowledge needed to do magic is actually extremely unrestricted. Wrong. It's using a known architecture to frame your new spell. Birdway makes the comparison of learning to draw with your feet vs your hands. Not that guy, but espers do need talent with the disparity in hierarchy in the first place. They also require resources and technology to even start developing their abilities. The only reason Espers have gotten this far in development is because of Aleister, who is a prodigy magician that refined Thelemic concepts into espers.

I'm aware they are special cases, but Izzard's case is the case for many other magicians as well, and I wasn't talking about him, merely the method of his spell. The gregorian choir and many other spells do much of the same thing. They need a large amount of people to assist and then they can do great things, I assume this is because Kamachi was trying to go all in on the theme that the church is a large organization and made a way to use numbers in the spell. A member of the choir, the knights, or any other large formless mass however is very unlikely to be seeing much training or personal growth though. So you don't get to just "work harder, get better" on either the magic side or the science side.

You can't just spend those resources on magic because you can't just go to magic school! There is no Hogwarts, there's no magic side equivalent of Academy City. Magic factions don't just hand out training and resources, if you somehow find them and try to join them they expect your loyalty and for you to fight for them. It's a totally different situation.

They key part here is "more" talent. There's really no reason at all to assume that espers need more talent than a magician does to perform similar feats. In fact, I'd think it would be more likely that they need less talent. Largely because of how specialized they are, and how much opportunity there is for them to safely practice and find (basic/middling) help from others. Much the same applies to the resources and technology comment, magicians can't well just jump and start using magic on their own. This is highlighted in the Neccesarius SS.

So the idea that it requires no talent is bullshit, it's like saying chess grandmasters don't have talent at chess, of course they do. It's a somewhat different sort of talent from Espers, or maybe just a less obvious form of talent.

Nepthys was born a magic god, Fiamma was born with holy right, saints EXIST, talent by birth still matters for the strongest of the magic side. When Esper's get their hands on magic, almost all Level 3 higher espers will be walking fucking nukes, with GUTSha, Kakine and Accelerator becoming living gods among men.

Stiyl doesn't *need* science to improve his cards, it just makes it more convenient. Much like when Crowley made a magic circle in NT18 using a table edge and people got mad at him. It doesn't actually improve the magic, it's just easier. You absolutely do need a base architecture of magic to start with, this is literally outlined in the Neccesarius SS when losing their artifacts was stated to be something that the commonwealth countries wouldn't recover from for many many years.

3d snowflake printers have been shown to improve the output of a magical spell by thousands more than the initial power of the mage. It does much more than make it convenient.

Crowley is the root cause of almost every problem in Academy City, but he's not the root cause of all the stupid plans Magicians do unless you trace it all the way back to him inventing modern magic in the first place, which honestly even for a guy like me who hates Crowley, that seems like a stretch.

This is sort of an interesting example of how the shifting timescale of the series has made it weird. When the series came out in 2004, smartphones were not a thing and the internet was pretty different. Now in-series everyone but Mikoto and Touma have smartphones (and these two are both regarded as dinosaurs in-series for not having them), even though the series has only moved a few months. Logically magic might be far more widespread with 2010-levels of interconnectedness and social media. But the world building was done in 2004, so this is what we've got.

If you want to wait thousands of years to craft them all instead of immediately becoming almost as powerful as a saint and being able to make new sets of them on the fly, then sure, being able to spam your power and adjust it on the fly instead of running out of resources.
Well user said world ending. Fiamma/WWIII and Angel Fall stand out as two examples of world ending events specifically caused because Crowley fucked up the elements. It's not a stretch. It's literally his fault that the events happened in the first place.

The world was still plenty connected in 2004 though. And Kamachi was writing things such as being able to hop over to France within an hour or two in OT14. It's not as though that's something he's overlooked. He had a choke on information coming out of AC via internet and the like in the volume right after that as well. It's not something I would imagine is hard baked into the setting.

Academy City reconstruction has gotta be really amazing.

So the giant necromancy monster blows up a bunch of buildings. Then Mikoto tears up a big chunk of the city. Then Kazakiri levels a bunch of it. Then Mikoto and Robutt have a big kaiju battle and fuck shit up. Then Kakine and Accelerator wreck shit. And this all happens in like a couple weeks. And Endymion happens somewhere in the middle of all of this.

AC construction is noted to be quite advanced as well many times yes. I believe it's mentioned when Accelerator moves into Yomikawa's place that it was a trial building or something.

You don't need any relics or grimoires to make runes and idol theory means you can have a replica made of the original just like how you'd manually make a replica of the original to do any spell that requires it. Grimoires are their own slightly special cases but there is probably a way to just print off tittynun's semirandomized grimoire and infuse it with mana instead of slaving away with a quill for several weeks.

If Aleister was truly motivated to do that, then there would have been obvious emphasis on that instead of Touma crying about Crowley’s old bedsheets. Kamachi is too avoidant of showing the consequences of the scope of Crowley’s manipulation, so it can’t really be confirmed since he’ll never put Aleister in a situation where he is confronted for his mishandling of AC. The emphasis of his past in England was also to avoid this.

Yeah, Kamachi made Crowley way too evil of a person to ever realistically be a sympathetic character. At least Accelerator's crimes were sort of an accident, Crowley's plan literally revolved around turning Academy City into Mengele's wet-dream.

I might have missed something if that changed within the last two books, but while Coronzon was summoned first by Mathers, the element/aeon shift wasn't until Crowley was messing around with Awaiss and botched his own Coronzon summoning.
Unfortunately we have an unreliable narrator here due to messing with things beyond his/her ken, so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

Crowley will probably be the biggest factor in reconnecting Touma's memories with, well, Touma. But I don't think Crowley will be an ally to his children of course or at least not without his personal benefit.
