What have you been watching, lads?
Pre-2000 anime

Maison Ikkoku. I realised I should've started watching it in autumn though, summer just doesn't get me in the mood.
Are you watching DBZ for the first time?
I really enjoyed this show but the ending was shit and the last arc was too drug out and the main girl was a bitch by the end. also why did they use the same background tracks for 90% of the show but rainbow dash or whatever her name is got an entire brass section arrangement going on when she was on screen
I've been going through the animation film archives again, it's a great resource for learning and there are some excellent films on there.
A friendly reminder that there are only pre-2000 20 anime shows worth watching / discussing.
Given how anime has been a thing since the late 60's, it means that the good-to-shit ratio is less than one for year and therefore pre-2000 anime is no better than post-2000 anime.
Or more exactly, anime has never been a good medium.
Rewatching LoGH.
Isao Takahata directed an episode of this show.

Still continuing my quest to watch every OP ever made. About to reach 1999. Will post the list of my favorites and the hall of shame when I hit 2000.
my cute banana waif can't be this cute and sexy at the same time
SRW T finally made me jump into the robot genre. I'm watching GGG and AT Votoms atm. Kinda cool the vast difference in tones, structure and style.
was Angel Cop made by Shirow?
nope, angel cop technically came first but the similarities with angel and mokoto are coincidental(i think). in the manga, the creator said it's intended to be a short live action film inspired by robocop, but instead became a manga + OVA.
I don't watch old shit
Why even post?
Thank you for this comment.
She cute
I just found a copy of MD Geist Director's Cut. I'm tempted to watch it now.
Banana Fish anime should have been produced when the manga was still ongoing in the 80s, or after it was completed in early 90s.
Sorry if I bring up this here, but I think the manga is a very interesting read, and not adapting it back in the days was a missed opportunity I'm sure many regretted. It would have been so satistying to discuss it here if it was a pre-2000 anime.
The modern adaptation just doesn't capture its essence, it feels like an unremarkable cashgrab.
Yoshida (Banana Fish's mangaka) was the character designer for this -I think obscure?- OVA called "Bobby's Girl" that was released in 1085, it's nice to fantasize how Banana Fish would have looked like if it aired more than 30 years ago.
>that was released in 1085
in 1985
