My only complaint so far is that we're halfway through the season and eight episodes in, and I still see people going "It might be slow now, but trust me it'll get better soon" and they've been saying that for every single episode since the pilot.

That's actually not true, it has a ton of innacuracies with it's core understanding of viking culture, it was actually the the historical aspect that degraded this series for me, would have done better in an original setting. The SnK manga gained attention when it started because of how "unique" the premise was back then (10 years ago) and 2009-2010 was the height of the whole "zombie survival story" craze.

Im pretty sure nobody prefers him to the first actor, who was perfectly casted but he had some other project at the time and bailed out so they they had to recast and then recast again. Stories involving pacifism tend to be more about characters inner struggle with himself and how he can make it in violent world. But, wouldn't that be interesting? See how character solves obstacle of people who are needlessly violent without reason. Vinland Saga has its fair share of people who like to act violently because they enjoy it, like Thorkell and Garm.

Inner struggles are fine and i very much enjoy settings where its a guy trying to prove his view in the world its just that pacifism in particular is too retarded. If it were something more ambiguous i wouldnt have such an issue with it, theres tons of material and real world examples of how pacifism cant survive that its almost impossible for the show to sell me on it. There are multiple versions of the pacifistic ideal represented by different characters in the manga. Primarily: Thorfinn, and Thors before his death, represent the supposed "cuck" mentality, and they refuse to fight when there is an alternative. If there isn't, they attempt to win nonlethally. On the other side, Prince Cutenute represents an imposed peace via power. He uses his status as a ruler to conquer and unite the lands, force his enemies to back down, and pacify their autistic warmongering ways. He accepts that people must die but tries not to make many compromises with human life. Those are the main two pacifisms in the story, though Cutenute's is less of a focus than Thorfinn's.
