The main issue is that his motivation is really vague and something he should share with most kids in his world, so it isn't clear why he is worthy of OfA. This leads to Hori trying to prove that Deku is absolutely worthy of OfA. But even after dedicating a whole arc to doing it, he fails. Because his reasoning is that there isn't a reasoning for it. Deku just knows what is right. Because he does what Hori thinks is right. But Hori writes the rules of the Universe, so this logic is invalid.

And then, Deku has a compulsion to run face-first into danger without thinking. This is a major flaw for anyone irl, especially rescue workers. But the narrative says it is a virtue because Hori thinks so. To solve this contradiction Hori keeps altering reality to give Deku (and other retards who do the same like All Might and Shiggy) power ups that make them come on top of logic and planning.

I've literally skipped through every chapter since the last Deku one. Months ago. My impressions of the story of this boring arc is:

Everyone wants to be a hero for different reasons. But there are two things I think you antidekufags don't seem to be able to process whenever you consider the character.

1. Literally everything in the universe was against him being a hero. He got told he wasn't gonna have a quirk at a young age, had a bully his whole life telling him to give up, even his mother couldn't tell him he could become one, and his idols first words of advice were that he could just do something else.

2. His entire reason for wanting to be a hero was based in inspiration to people who themselves got lucky. all might was also quirkless before being "handed down" a power that made him a god. Bakugou hit the jackpot on quirks and was a tough kid even without it who already had admires from a young age. One of the core themes of the series being how the path someone or the whole nation takes can be changed tremendously by the actions of one (the whole symbol of peace).

Deku deserved OFA not because he just wanted to be a hero really badly, not just because he had no quirk, and not just because he ran into the fire with no powers.

He deserved OFA because more than a lot of people, he should have had no aspiration to be a hero, no reason to put his life on the line for something life was telling him he didn't have to do. Through the sheer inspiration of the person who made it his lifes goal to inspire an age of peace does he find that heroism wasn't an option for him, and he who had nothing and had more reasons to hate the world and everyone who doubted him was the first to act in a situation everyone else deemed hopeless.

long story short Deku deserves to be a hero because he's one who still sees heroics as an ideal not just an occupation and while over the course of the series for the sake of the world and his own well being he learns how to function with it as an occupation he still has more of a heart for being a hero than many when he has no business to.

And there is one big thing Dekufags can't see: The author's hand moving the plot to make his dumb themes right. Not everything in the Universe was against Deku. Because this is a fictional Universe, and the Symbol of Peace can just meet you in a Fated Encounter that requires at least three levels of coincidence: 1)AM meeting Deku. 2) A villain attacking someone so Deku can show his "heroism" to AM. 3) That villain not killing Deku, or his hostage before AM shows up. And a level of weird writing: AM deciding that jumping into a monster with a hostage is heroism and not idiocy.

The themes in no series should supercede logic. Not obviously at the very least. And that is something that happens all the time whenever Deku is around.

Also, I liked Deku at first. But the fact is that Hori's hand just gets more obvious as the series goes along and the way in which it places Deku in a pedestal at the cost of everything else is just annoying. I could agree that "Yeah, Deku might not be the best, but he is more worthy than most because he has shown to not give up even without a motivation", but Hori's attempts as showing him as the MOST worthy was downright gross in execution. Yakuza is effectively the point when I started hating the character.

Well to be fair I think people are running wild with the slap. Endeavor doesn't seem like the type of trailer trash drunkard who beats his wife to make himself feel superior. Now don't misunderstand, he was out of line, but I wouldn't call it evidence of ongoing physical abuse. The only "abuse" that was ongoing was Rei's stress and being shut out, neglected. She even admits in the manga her guilt over what she did to her son, and probably could have left the hospital ages ago had she forgave herself sooner. The Todoroki household is complicated to say the least. Endeavor and Rei, despite their numerous issues, love each other in their own odd way and both are now coming to terms with their faults.

Maybe that's the point. Deku has the heart of hero, but needs to grow up. He needs to move past the idyllic version he has of a hero and form his own identity as a hero.
Hori is taken the slow route because Deku a high school kid, that will hopefully eventually mature, and we as the reader are just along for the ride.

Because All Might is the most popular celebrity in this world and has an effect on the entire population. So we have no reason to believe Deku should want to be a Hero much more than other similar people.

Hori specifically introduced Mirio as a person whom we were told had a shit Quirk everyone thought unfit for a hero until he trained it for years. Very much the same situation as Deku. And then he made an arc to show us why Deku is better. This is what irks me about the series. Deku isn't just good. Hori tries to sell him as the BEST. And everyone who questions it is humiliated. It is the same shit with Shiggy too.

Making a story that obeys logic is pretty simple. Don't rely on coincidences, contrivances, or asspulls. These are the manifestation of the "author's hand". And the themes of the story Hori tells are dumb because they simply fall apart once you remove Coincidences, Contrivances, and Asspulls. Lets say Deku REALLY believed in himself enough to try to apply to UA and never gave up. BUT he never randomly meets All Might. Guess what happens? He either ends up as support, never fulfilling his dream. Or just wasted a year of his life. Can we say believing in yourself doing the impossible is the best idea based on this example Hori provided for us by making the concept of the series work on a coincidence?

Now, lets say that Shiggy doesn't turn out to have a secret power he forgot that makes him far more dangerous than ever. What is the fate of the League of Villains? Can we truly say that "just push your limits! Anything is possible!" is a reasonable idea?

Great, you took the easier one, now answer Reminder that if One Piece was written like BNHA, Luffy would've been granted "Pirate King" status in chapter 1 and the rest of the series would have been the author justifying this decision. And instead of getting the "gomu gomu" fruit that seems laughably underpowered, Luffy would've received the "ultima ultima" fruit and would be receiving training and guidance from Gold Roger. Oh yeah and Luffy would cry all the time about how unfair life is to him. I could keep going... One Piece would've been unreadable by chapter 100 or so, sustained for half its duration via a tournament arc showing off all the world's devil fruits the author could think of.

How so? The problem with BHNA from a narrative perspective is Deku has already become the world's 'strongest' hero and just needs to grow into it. Especially after the "ONE MILLION PERCENT" asspull. Yes, we know Luffy will eventually become pirate king but narratively it works out a lot better that we don't know exactly what the hell that looks like, and additionally luffy's powers have generally been used very, very creatively compared to BNHA which (until I dropped the series) was basically "i punch hard... no... harder!... no... even harder!... um... now i kick!"

2) Because you aren't bothered about Hori inflating the threat level of Deku and Shiggy's enemies with reasonable things like intel, plans, and power levels, but then have them lose to Plot Tickets and Contrivances. So you feel like these fights are fair and not the author playing favorites.

Like almost every person who criticized Deku people did have valid points on where Deku needed to grow in order to become a hero and it's been through taking all of that criticism into account that deku does make steps towards being a hero. Deku could benefit from having some sort of distinguishable trait due to his upbringing. Most of those characters you mentioned are the way they are because of their pasts. Same deal with the other MHA characters you mentioned; Bakugou's personality stems from his superiority complex, Todoroki's personality stem from the abuse of his childhood, Iida's stem from his love of his brother and the want to fill his shoes and uphold his family's reputation, plus his own autism/nerdiness. The parts where they show that Deku's a bit of a momma's boy for example are good at giving him a more distinct personality. He's just too normal and vanilla at this point. I like his crying even if anyone hates it because at least it's still a distinguishable trait. Maybe if Hori made being raised from a more humble home than his peers by a single mother a bigger part of him that'd be an improvement?

He doesn't have actual flaws, esecially in comparison to other shounen MCs, his ""flaws"" don't affect story in any way, he never faces serious ideological conflicts and is right on everything since the very beginning. When travelling with jiraiya you see that he respects jiraiya and sees him as a dad. People say naruto talk no jutsu's his way out of everything, it's a pretty fitting trait of a main character, especially since he doesn't plan to. When he first met nagato he wanted to kill him and shit on his entire village, but he realised as he was fighting pain that nagato had his circumstances and that he would only feel temporary fulfillment from getting revenge. Now let's look at deku. He's some kid that got bullied, ends up getting the most powerful quirk and still gets bullied. He sucks all might's dick like it should be making him stronger yet it isn't and when he gets confronted by the bad guy of the show, he just stays quiet like a little bitch. Matter of fact is, you could say "oh you would also stay quiet like a little bitch" but i'm not a main character, if I was a main character I would still be a lot better than deku with his one track mind. His motivation is never changing, whereas naruto who originally wanted people to respect him, ended up wanting to protect everyone once he did get stronger, he wanted to bring back his friend and wanted to follow in jiraiya's footsteps. The fire/ice guy and his dad have had more character development than deku. A character shouldn't take 100+ chapters to realise they shouldn't just be a clone of another character.
