She's not crippling herself, she's not quite as superhuman almighty if she does it. Right now she's super human, she can do whatever the fuck. Giving up even a small amount of that super humanity doesn't make her a cripple.

Nothing can be done about it since it was be utter coincidence. Momo can't cry over spoiled milk over the bumbling Shamiko's deeds.

You don't know that. She could barely walk for weeks after Shamiko accidentally took just a few drops of blood.

I dunno, from what Momo's said it seems like the drop in ability would be akin to a normal person losing an arm; sure you're still better off than someone with no limbs at all, but there's suddenly a lot of shit you can't handle anymore.

It was a lot of things compounding to this mess.
Momo was getting countered by the barrier since she's been looking for where Shamiko lives Momo's been looking for leads on Sakura as well.
Momo continuously exerts herself in helping Shamiko to train as well.
The emotional strains also chip at her. A combination of her PTSD, concerns about Shamiko, the overall situation with the town and guilt all add up in her.

I am not surprised one bit that Momo went down very hard when the last straw from Shamiko's dreamscape invasion broke her back, and it only got worse with Shamiko treating her wound then giving the blood to Lilith by pure coincidence.

I'm a little confused about the dreamscape thing. The impression I got was that Momo being covered in black muck represented all her negative feelings weighing her down and Shamiko helping her clean it all up improves her state of mind. Did the mere act of barging into her dream just cause damage separate from what Shamiko actually does in the dream?

I kinda hate this trope, its lazy or something. Starts off "I'm no one special" and it becomes "I'm actually the strongest one, because I'm the only one you're familiar with therefore I may as well be so whatever, lol". It makes things feel smaller. If she was just a normalfag magical girl, it would make the entire world feel way bigger. Like they're playing with low ball stakes in this small town, while the rest of the world is going much bigger. I'm fine with the stakes being low here, with both the hero and villain being low tier types in the grand scheme.

Yeah that's part of it, it basically puts a huge box on the situation with nowhere else to go and nowhere else to ever improve. A bigger magical girl can't ever show up, a bigger threat can't ever show up, nothing exceeding this can basically show up if you're already the strongest. It limits everything else since you already started out at the limit.

When she said she was just a weak or normal magical girl, it made it feel more down to earth which fits the story better, and at the same time like the world was a big place. I know its never going to be a battle manga and it'll never have fights, I don't want it to have fights either, but that's not quite the point. It just doesn't fit the story that well I believe.

Momo herself would also need to be pretty strong in order the maintain the town's safety. If she was only around the middle or lower, then stronger magical girls would just come over to collect free points.

Also the story has established Momo getting weaker because of Shamiko taking her blood. It won't happen again now that Shamiko knows exactly what this means, but the possibility of Momo weakening enough for other magical girl antagonists to show up was there.

By volume 5 Shamiko found where Sakura was, broke the 40k yens curse, healed Mikan and gave a body to the demon who possessed her, met a mountain god and freed her ancestor (though in a fake body), got strong enough to beat a familiar, learned how to cook really damn well, got not one but 2 mobile phones, managed to pacify the feud between Rico and another mahou shoujo and got a PS2

Momo is basically her unofficial underling by this point, Mikan also owns her a life debt and her influence keeps growing, it won't be long before she becomes the boss of the town

They claim that other magical girls would fear her not for her magic power but because she's a brute. She's a brute because she trains hard every day and works out, not because of magical powers. She can even lift boulders and stop trucks. Aside from that I haven't seen much saying she's special. Momo herself doesn't seem to realize she's a gorilla which is why she doesn't consider it special.

That mostly proves the point, Momo doesn't need to be strong to protect the town currently since its protected already. So that doesn't necessarily mean she's the strongest anything.

Personally I think it's less her not realising she's so strong and more her self-esteem issues/possible depression making her think that her level of strength isn't anything special.
