>side character almost beats main villian
ITT: your favorite trope
Isn't he a main character?
Why are the side characters always the best in YGO?
Ra owner is Joey, the three strongest dueslists will have an egyptian god each one
Yugi=slifer
Kaiba=obelisk
Joey=ra (golden bird for a blonde dude, it rhimes)
In hindsight that nigga is pretty retarded
>Deck consists fully of shit tier card
>Doesnt actually beat anyone, rely on them passing the fuck out because of "realistic" pain instead
>liar avoids trouble by convincing people that he is badass
>people are oppressed but given hope by this lie
>liar now must step up and become the hero everyone thinks he is
Ra a shit tier card? user, I...
>villain has principles and respects the hero
>Somewhere...
Those were other times, everyone had shit decks full of random cards
In the actual trading card game it is laughably bad, in the anime there is tons of hype but little payoff. Funnily enough, Ra sphere mode was actually pretty competitive
I wish mr. satan had beaten cell or atleast a cell jr.
atleast we will see king vs atomic samurai in 2024
Ah yes, another"Joey should have beaten Marik despite the fact that Joey wouldn't have even been in the finals if not for Marik himself" thread. Love these.
BECAUSE YUGI IS A fucking faggot n00b n joey is teh leetist of all teh epic dulists
I like this trope but I wish the side character would actually beat the villain sometimes
>Side character A is fighting a mid tier enemy but getting chewed up six ways from sunday
>Mid tier enemy gets cocky
>About to finish off side character A
>Side Character B comes in and saves them and turns the fight around eventually curbstomping the enemy
>MC and rival have beaten each other to the point where neither of them should be able to continue fighting
>MADA DA
Marik was legit about to lose. Joey told his monster to attack but passed out before the blow was struck. In literally any other show that would have be a win. But muh pharoh has to fight the big bad and win
Joey was legit about to lose to Odion. The monster's attack was at his neck before Marik told Odion to stop his attack just to play a fake Ra for a pointless ruse. Marik himself saved Joey after Odion hard outplayed him.
this archer actually deciding to kick some ass and take on beserker was the best part of Deen stay night
People really give Junoichi too much credit here forgetting that Marik is a shit-tier duelist that only ever wins because he blatantly cheats.
>Gaara vs Lee
>Sasuke va Bee
Don't these fit?
>hero's friend dies so they pick up something to honor their dead friend whether it be a verbal trait, philosophy or a physical item and then go on a rampage.
Simon/Kamina and Shichika/Togame work perfectly because of that.
When secondary MCs have their moment to be the primary MC.
That shit gets me diamonds
Sasuke got his shit pushed in by Bee though
But Bee couldn't follow through.
I don't remember how did Joey lose
This was definitely the peak of DM
Yes he's basically the deut or tritagonist.
>In the actual trading card game
How to spot a retard every time.
That wasn't to secure a match between Marik and Yugi, because if that were the case, Kaz would have just had Marik shit on Jonouchi. It was to make Jonouchi look good and make the reader angry at Marik.
It was less "side character almost beats villain" and more "villain and his squad barely escape side character with their lives".
>the Robot being piloted acts like a normal robot when it's piloted but it can actually respond to the will of the User or even make moral judgments.
Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty.
Those were the best of times
Card games lose their magic when it becomes all about peak efficiency
He beat Mai fairly. She's the retard who summoned a card she didn't know how to use. All she had to do was wait that duel out with Ra in her hand.
Examples.
Someone post that gif of Norris Packard and his Gouf walking side by side.
the anime may have been mediocre at best and the war arc was easily beyond rock bottom but Night guy was the best thing to come out of Naruto
When Sasuke almost beat Naruto if Naruto hadn't been in the way.
this is my new favorite Yea Forums post. you did well user
this
General Furuichi with Furuichi Rhapsody!
Wait fuck, I mean Sasuke almost beat HAKU if Naruto hadn't been in the way.
One of the top of my head (not even anime but fuck it close enough) Kamen Rider Gattack becoming Gattack in Kamen Rider Kabuto
>inb4 back to /m/
>Card games lose their magic when it becomes all about peak efficiency
I don't necessarily agree, but it's funny how the general perception of Yu-Gi-Oh! has declined as it goes out of its way to adhere to retards and autists whom are only interested in blowing lots of money on playing the real game.
>People hate situational trap cards that won't get printed despite their extremely stylish names.
>Arc-V replaces them with Action Cards which are more or less the same, but have generic names and uninteresting designs. It then goes on to generally be considered the worst Yu-Gi-Oh! spinoff.
>VRAINS comes through with a bunch of super realistic masturbatory plays that reflect the current state of the game.
>People wish it would be even more of a competitive shitstorm with a superabundance of OTK-plays.
Would have legit cried if Pop or Marm died in Dai no Daibouken
bee wasn't trying to kill him. he saw the opportunity to use the incident to sneak out of the village and he took it.
When the main character scares his enemy due to his blood lust
S-Cry-ed. When Kazuma used Kimishima's gun to activate his Alter power, I was blown away.
>side character actually beats the main villain
Based Kai
Beyblade >>>>>>>>>>>> Yugioh ALWAYS
Kai is what Vegeta should be
the best battle in the entire series,
>said side character scares the absolute fuck out of the villain in doing so and has earned his respect from that point onward
I also like the Zoro and Arlong thing where the villain handily beats the side character but realizes they came into the fight so fucked up he wonders how the hell they can even stand
Vegeta really should have stayed dead in Name.
It didn't make sense for him to be a good guy and basically be "le insecure prince obsessed with surpassing Goku".
It doesn't make sense how he doesn't just wreck shit on Earth while Goku is MiA and get the Dragon Balls and wish for immortality.
*Namek
Fucking shitty keyboard
He was actually the main rival instead of a side character, but I was shocked in Beyblade when Kai actually beat Brooklyn.
(OP)
>side character actually beats the main villain
It's even better when the character is pretty much literal who tier.
>Yugi
>Ends the series after becoming stronger than his dark side, and developing his own deck throughout the series
>Atem uses Dark Magician, Dark Magician girl, Buster Blader, etc. While Yugi develops his own style using Silent Magician, Silent Swordsman, Gandora, and marshmellow
>Yugi has a cool level up deck and weak monsters with good effects that fuse together or grow, which reflects his growth.
>While Atem has a boring deck relying on startforward strong monsters and summoning them fast.
>Cut to after the series, Yugi is reduced to a jobber who can't do anything without his Atem again, whenever he does appear he looks the same as Atem for some reason like in GX, and Yugi is back to being typecast into using the basic bitch Dark Magician deck instead of his Silent deck.
I think the last time regular Yugi has been portrayed well at all was Yugioh R. And that's just because it was the original author again.
Is there more of this trope?
Ra is garbage bro.
Didn't GX's battle with Yugi happened because of dimension/time distortion or some shit? It was basically stated that was classic Yugi/Atem and not lone Yugi
Then why did Yugi look like Atem in episode one as well?
>the protagonist gets in a traffic accident but get this, instead of dying, he is transported to another world (!) full of sword and sorcery, where he gains a cheat ability and becomes the strongest
>side character actually beats main villain, ending the story
I dunno, probably.
Worth noting that although Kai beats Brooklyn it's the MC Tyson who beats Brooklyn in his Final Form in the final match when he goes insane and really powerful after Kai handed him the first defeat in his entire life.
Kai sacrificed his beyblade Dranzer to beat him and then his friend Tala is seen near him crying at the hospital(in the Japanese version at least).
Afterwards he returns with his wounds treated and most fans think Dranzer revived him
Well no, they do die in Isekei series. Its just that they get reincarnated into another world
>Protag gets into traffic accident
>Trasported to fantasy world of sword and magic
>Does not gain a cheat ability, instead the only thing they have special about them is knowledge from their previous world and the fact that they're born already mentally mature.
Even better trope right there.
(ex; Jobless Reincarnation - I Will Go All Out When I'm Transported to Another World)
Rudy isn't special at all, he just trained a lot since he was born with the mentality of a 30 year old and decided he wouldn't be a fucking failure at life this time around.
The whole "You get cheat ability automatically" in Isekei is fairly new, it wasn't always like that. It just shows that the writer can't write and needs a deus ex. Muv Luv for example, protag there didn't get any powers when he isekei'd. All he had was knowledge of the previous world.
>isekai protagonist wants to return to earth at all costs
Any anime/manga for this kino?
Yugi actually uses Buster Blader in the anime variation of their ceremonial duel, and in the manga I don't think either of them summoned it.
Yugi isn't a jobber in the slightest during DSOD, he pretty much shits on everybody he duels. Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl are Yugi's servants too, I don't know why you expected him to not use them just because the Pharaoh passed on. If anything they'd become even more precious (like they have). Also, that deck still has both his Silent cards and his Gandora in it. And retrains of his Marshmallon. So you're retarded.
>He didn't do what I wanted so he's a jobber.
I swear everytime this word is used in the context of Yu-Gi-Oh! its a situation like this.
Tyson had a temporary super mode during that match though. Kai having beaten Brookly first (despite losing the first match and almost dying after winning the second match) gave him massive credibility which made the final match of the season between him and the MC more intense.
Because he was an adult, he had a growth spurt and started taking care of himself.
Yugi always cared about self-improvement (the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! manga is basically a story of becoming one's best self) and the Pharaoh told him it was his own inner strength that allowed him to make friends, not the magic of the Millennium Puzzle or the presence of his alter ego, so it's not like working out doesn't make sense for him. I mean shit, he had bad grades in the manga and shot to the top of his class in DSoD.
I mean, technically, Bakura was the main villain of Yu-Gi-Oh and he ate losses all over the place.
Pretty sure he always took care of himself, he doesn't magically grow though.
I meant he started doing push ups and ab crunches and getting strong; becoming physically excellent to sublimate his existence at locals.
I love when they grab completely nonsensical plays from the first season and make actual cards to justify them
Kuroki was the fucking best. Guy with literally zero connection to the plot, he's just the most badass guy there who happens to be literally who
mystical moon was yugi's wasnt it?
I guess its destroying umi
>Tyson had a temporary super mode during that match though.
Well yeah it was "muh power of friendship/bonds"
>MC goes all out it all to defeat the villain
>It's still not enough and they die
examples
based king
>the villain is in the right
Too bad most people fuck this trope up 90% of the time, because the few times it is executed right, it's kino
source
>everyone from allies to antagonists come together to give MC the final push
It's hilarious how Yugi is still shorter than Anzu in the anniversary movie...though Anzu looks shorter than in the original series as well there to me for some reason.
She was so damn huge compared to him in the original series...goddamn.
name 5 japanese comic
Anzu is by far the most sucky sucky five dollar femc i've ever seen
Is that isekai about the masked dude?
what a fucking asspull, best fight my ass
>VRAINS comes through with a bunch of super realistic masturbatory plays that reflect the current state of the game.
Is this true?
I'v never actually played or understood the game. I might watch some of VRAINS just to see what that looks like.
When I was a kid seeing this show I thought the cards were like Pokemon and it was all about making them work together like pic related.
Didn't know they had strict rules or hard stats and abilities because the cards were always blank in the show.
>because the cards were always blank in the show.
To this day it angers me that they did that because it would've been too much of a bother to edit all of them properly.
I'm glad they didn't. It made the show "I wonder what that card is going to do when he plays it" instead of "I hope he plays that hand optimally"
>Beach episode
>Onsen episode
>MC prefer to go straight for the kill
>MC is able to fuck the girls
>Female clothing get ripped apart like paper
>Catgirls
>Girls are even more pervert and horny than the MC
>Deities are actually deities and take more than punching them on the face to defeat them
>Angels are good and demons are evil
>No-pan character
>Evil dude that looked like was making MC and party fall for his plan, in the end discover he was seen trough from the beginning and realize he fell for the MC's strategy.
I'd sucky sucky her titties and her big penis
The author said Yugi's height is just an artistic license, he doesn't actually grow taller when Atem takes over, just stands more confident
He definitely grew taller in DSoD since he's much closer to catching Anzu's height.
>Lee almost defeating Gaara
Lee did literally zero damage to Gaara though. When Guy starts talking about his precious student, Gaara stands up like "ok fuck this shit" and walks away while Lee is crippled to the point that the world's best medic only has a 50/50 shot at saving him.
Lee was able to beat the crap out of him and mindbreak him since mommy's shield wasn't working anymore. He might not have been able to win, but he achieved a feat that few others could've pulled off at that point in the series.
Based, didn't expect anyone to remember this.
>Rishid
He joined the tournament with a counterfeit card and because of that, he should be kicked out, even if he didn't need to use fake Ra.
Then again, he was indeed a great duelist and managed to best Jounouchi, though his Serket card was busted and it was possibly the only case when a duelist's hand was bricked despite having 3 cards.
>main protag is finally winning
>his theme song starts playing
>defeats the antag
>theme song stops
>antag gets up
>song turns into a remix
Lee never hurt him. He got some hits in, but the hits did no damage. The point wasn't that Gaara had never been hurt, it was that he was seemingly untouchable.
Sasuke, on the other hand, canonically drew blood, and Gaara freaked out.
Bee wasn't trying to follow through. He was trying to leave Cloud to start his rap career, Sasuke got in the way, and Bee pushed him aside.
But he won...
He passed out in the middle of the battle phase. If he said "attack", his monster would have attack and he would have won, but since he didn't say it before passing out, he technically lost the duel. It would be like if 2 real life people were in a duel and one player had a winning field, but has a heart attack before his turn even begins
HE FUCKING WON......
Damn, does she have a dick there? Why's her vagina so long?
joy didn't win you retards he didn't declare battle he passed out and the win goes to marik by default you can blame plot armor but don't say that he won
>Lee did literally zero damage to Gaara though
Temari(or whatever her name was, gaara sister) said that fighting Lee was the first time that Gaara ever felt pain.
Except kagami jobs half the time and only beats tendou on a contrivance. Wasted chance for kagami to cuck tendou out of the hyper zecter and show how hes surpassed him
it's one of those 80s high-waisted things
Episode 5 already had Yusaku do a masturbatory play.
>almost
Almost means fuck all in YuGiOh.
You know how many times some third rate duelist almost beat Yugi, the king of games?
None of them were prevented from doing it because of external circumstances, though. Vrains, for example, just had a Duel where a robot was about to beat one of the top dogs, but then it had a fucking short circuit and ended its turn.
