Thoughts for those who've seen it? I enjoyed it but thought it was mediocre, especially compared to Kimi no Na wa.
Tenki no Ko
Me sad when Hina died at the end
Oh, apparently it hasn't been released in America yet, my bad anons.
Comparing it to Your Name does it no favors and honestly isn't very productive - yeah, the follow up movie to one of the biggest successes ever isn't better than it, how could it be? It's not another Your Name and it's also not something completely different so it can't really win that argument.
On it's own though it's just a good movie. I actually like some of the things it goes more than Your Name, character stuff mostly in that I felt it's more 'fun' but in exchange it probably doesn't hit the same high drama or twists Your Name managed to.
Your Name was fucking garbage. This movie was great. Anyone who says "uhh but its not as good when compared to your name" has a sub-70 IQ.
based
Saw it Friday
Its OK but more like a 'your name' lite
Narrative was kinda sloppy and contrived
Some big moments fall flat especially when they have that hard cut there are quite a few of those
Some dodgy CGI on the rotating shots and I think previous movies looked better generally even the
backgrounds
Didn't like the MC and couldn't relate
The insert songs and montage felt out of place too, just felt like they had to do it again I guess
The absolute state of Your Name fags.
You're right, I should have judged it more as an individual film, but it is hard not to compare it to Your Name considering I'm likely only watching this film because I loved Your Name.
>the follow up movie to one of the biggest successes ever isn't better than it, how could it be?
It is better. It's better because it's not a glorified teen romance. Your Name is extremely shallow. More shallow than Shinkai's previous movies. It was successful because it looked good.
But... Weathering is also a teen romance... ???
Dumbass. WWY is a complete story. It obviously has romance because that's Shinkai's thing. But it's far more than just a romance, whereas Your Name was only a romance, a shitty one for 14 year olds at that, and nothing more.
the feet one was the best shinkai. not even a footfag.
Typical feelsfag non-response.
Japan just officially put it forward as their foreign language entry in the academy awards
Won't beat parasite though
>emotional climax of the whole film is a kid flooding the world because he wants to smash
>not a glorified teen romance
I missed Parasites run over here, is it definitely that strong a movie?

Yes best movie of the year
High quality stream rip has been out for a while
I disagree. It's definitely still a good film and I enjoyed it but I enjoyed Your Name more. Both films look good mate. YN focuses on a journey while WWY is more about the characters. I thought that the journey and adventure in YN was more genuine and meant that I was more involved with the film.
Of course, each to their own.
I like WWY's character work more, found them more relatable and genuine since the setting is less fantasy like. Overall funnier too.
Nothing in it has the first time holy shit factor of YN's asteroid strike though
Oh word, I assumed a release of it would be a few months ago. I'll check it out.
It'd be interesting to see how people who like the different movies differ - perhaps it depends on how much emphasis one puts on emotions/connection
I liked the character interactions and the romance and connection between two main leads actually felt more fleshed out here.
The scene in the hotel room where Hina disrobed and then she and Hodaka had a shared moment was amazingly poignant. I probably felt more drawn to it than to YN's Kataware Doki
That entire hotel scene was really, really well executed. Probably the emotional climax of the film.
