There're are ten El Melon cases.
The anime is going to adapt one case (Rail Zeppelin) in six episodes.
So the other cases should take at most twenty-four episodes to adapt.
Now, the cases that happen before Rail Zeppelin are Adra Castle of Peeling and Twin Towers of Iselma. If they ever get adapted, it will probably be in the form of OVAs or anime movies (not only Sanda himself said he didn't think they would work well as anime, but it would be pretty silly to start an eventual season two with a pequel).
So from the 4 cases this anime isn't going to cover, a season two would need to cover only two: The Contract of Atlas and Grand Resolution, with (by the reasoning at the start of this post) can probably fit a 12~13 episode season. Then they can wrap up Gray's backstory, Waver's character development and his wish to participate on the HGW, Dr Heartless plot, etc.
So, if this is really doing Prillya numbers in BD preorders like some user said in another thread, I think the chance of a second season is pretty good.
Buy maybe it's wishful thinking.
