The problem now is that the inclusion of Maria's group simply detracts from time they could be spending on the original 3. Maria has been given so much screen time and accomplishes absolutely nothing during it, while the 2 gays aren't particularly offensive but have no real character. Despite this, they're given episodes and character interactions that don't really have value so we get less time with Hibiki, Tsubasa, and Chris. The original 3 are just a more interesting team overall and they work well together.

You know how the staff quickly stopped paying attention to Ver's character model sheet entirely and kept drawing his face off model as a joke? I'm pretty sure Maria being a loser is a similar kind of joke. She was cool for 1 week, between S1 episode 1 and S2 episode 2, and has been getting laughed at ever since.

I desperately want to find a reason to like her but she's so insignificant in all that she does. She has no characterization aside from wanting to impress her mom and be useful. She's such an empty character that its aggravating, especially since she's had enough screentime for her to be given a real personality and the writers still do nothing to make her a person. Its really jarring when an episode focuses on Maria because shes just a background piece with no focus all the time unless specifically put in the spotlight and she's only relevant in these brief moments, which she still does nothing during.

Get a load of this guy. S1 final was great because of many reasons. Symphogear wasn't assured to continue past S1 at the time, which added so much tension as there looked like a legitimate chance Chris and Tsubasa were going to stay dead. Then even had the flashbacks and everything that could have easily fit in as a final send off for them.

Even though they managed to stop Kadinger, Fine was still alive and fine and Hibiki was practically comatose. The villain still held the cards and it looked like it could be a Pyrrhic victory at best. The gradual build up and timing of Synchrogazer helped rapidly build that hype starting with that 'wait a minute' moment where the villain hasn't actually won, and slowly growing more intense over Fine's freakout upon realizing that fact. Before then kicking into high gear at the perfect moment with showing Chris and Tsubasa aren't dess and the LISTEN TO MY SONG bit before Hibiki's awesome yell

Really, the music was perfectly synced to the visuals for maximum hype from the second it kicked in and that did so much for it. I love season 1 way too much, sorry for the long post.

As someone who desperately wants her to be useful I actually don't think that scene was completely horrible. She blocks a bunch of bullets with the whip sword which protects both Chris and a civilian. It's obviously something small but it's still neat. I wouldn't mind it if she had done more shielding and the like.

I feel like G pulled the 13th episode better with the two 5 minutes action scenes using great songs and sense of climax. Episode 12 might be weaker, although the ending was very strong in its own right too.
