There's a lot I don't understand about the differences between Conjurer and Emitter, for exemple why is Abengane a Conjurer instead of Emitter, his nen creates a nen beast with an exorcism ability, I was going to say Emitter at first but then the only Emitter ability that's close enough would be APR and APR is harmless, there's some confusing grey areas in here..

All the spiders but Zoldycs, Chrollo and Machi have basically nothing going for them plot-wise, so I think they're all disposable, maybe aside of Nobunaga due to his development and sort of bonding with Gon. But I think Frank is the most likely due to being alone now, and also he has no active plotlines, contrary to Nobu team.

Benji, Tse, Halk and Wobble seem to be end game material. Fuu and Marayam are now sole responsibilities of actual characters, so I expect them to go on for long. Tython is absolutely disposable, Chad-chad level, she might stay for comic relief though. Out of the remaining ones, I'd say Zhang has the best chance for longevity and Cammy has the worst, she has her army and all, but she seems to lack connections to anything, so again, she's disposable, but as a second prince, her death would seem like a big event. So I'd say it's between #2 and #6, but #6 won't be too big of an event, so just for that I'm guessing #2.

It's actually less that I assume there will be a new system and more that I think the creatures could function without needing to involve nen. Nanika also involves a human host so that's dodgy territory. Even if calamities don't directly use nen it could easily becomes involved depending on how they operate.

Given that Nanika's range and scope of influence exceeds anything we can understand through nen, even as a specialist trait. I think nen specifically isn't suited towards explaining how wish granting works. We already have things like shapeshifting animals that aren't stated to use nen, it's just a biological trait. the DC also has pebbles that can power entire cities for years, rice that can extend the life, and viruses that can keep you unaging and immortal.

Nen seems like it would be something other creatures can use, but clearly these calamaties aren't in the same category. Brion is a piece of technology, Hellbell can just infect people with the rage virus, and Pap keeps hosts. Those last two seem far more natural and plausible as just being biologically possible for creatures in this setting.

Both Conjurers and Emitters can make nen beasts, however an emitted nen beast is made from pure aura and a conjured nen beast is made of solid matter. Abengane and Rihan both create a real "living" creature that has a specific role to play, wheras Goreinu and Razor have fashioned their aura into lifelike looking constructs.

That's really the difference between the two categories. One deals with pure aura the other makes materials real.

Anything Nanika does we've seen already done through nen, teleportation, exorcism, healing, they're all typical nen abilities, it's just that Nanika can do everything and that's just because calamities are way more powerful than humans, it's simply talent, Gon could achieve Gon-san through training, calamities are just way more talented/evolved that any human so doing those extraordinary things is not a problem for them. The range doesn't define a different type of power system, it's the same system with a different intensity, nen can do all those things in theory and even more, we have powers that predict the future, what the calamities do is hardly something exceptional as a concept

Nanika may do stuff that is already shown in nen but she does so in ways that don't follow the same rules. Wish rebounds affect not everyone in a specific bloodline, but purely by relationship. She can also give the target anything they desire regardless of the scope of what they ask for including bringing a blimp full of money on demand. Then we get descriptions for all kinds of things found in the DC and none of them match anything achievable through nen as some of them aren't even living organisms.

It's clear from the story that the Chimera ants were a warmup for low level creatures from the DC then we jump to Nanika who is on a whole nother level. But this isn't the kind of setting where Nen is the end all be all. Even before learning nen, Killua could modify his hands and he and Gon could move tons with just pure muscle force. I doubt many large threats in the DC bother with nen as they should have better means of hunting and survival.

Not really, while both categories do have overlap it's still a huge divide between "make something from nothing" and "shape nothing into various forms". Plus because of type affinity it's important to note that emitters are going to be better at manipulation, but conjurers are going to be worse. All those things are not nen but natural traits of those creatures, but that doesn't mean that everything can be explained without nen, you can't transport people or heal them or exorcise a nen contract with those kind of features, those are physical/dna related abilities but they can't explain what Nanika and the calamities do.

That's no true, nothing she did broke any rule, nen doesn't really have rules to begin with really, you can do basically anything, Chrollo can use hundreds of powers as a mere human, I don't see why a creature with immensely higher potential/talent shouldn't be able to use any ability, resulting in a wish granting device like Nanika. If you're thinking of restrictions as a rule, then think again. Nanika actually has some restrictions and even if you count Killua being able to give orders for free, there's clearly an implication in there and there must be another condition we yet don't know of. But the thing is that having conditions is not a rule, powers don't require conditions, you can have an ability without them, people only use them to get more power, but a calamity with a billion aura capacity and with a talent higher than Meruem doesn't really need conditions or limitations

Emission's specialty, at its core is the movement of aura through space. That is it. An emitter can create a ball of aura that moves at will and then reshape it into a monkey with transmutation. This can mimic a Conjured creature in effect, but its powers deep down will still be related to moving aura around, and the fact the creature is even a Gorilla, Angel, or Boddhisatva is merely aesthetical. Hell, the Angel Knuckle's punch creates isn't even the real ability. The real ability is an invisible parasite in your aura. The angel is just a counter that serves as drawback.

And note that every time we see an Emitted construct take a shape, the owner is using Transmutation, even if it doesn't show up in the explanation blurb. Giving aura shapes is basic Emission, according to Bisky.

A Conjurer's ability is giving Aura all the properties of matter. More properties than what you'd get with Transmutation. To the point a clone made by Kortopi is biologically identical to the original, and rain conjured by the Surfboard Leol had was real, drinkable water. So it is more like Conjuration is very advances Transmutation. Except that sometimes you don't wan to make Aura that real, while other times you do.

That's a whole lot of headcanon in one post

I don't disagree but if you're including the Ai from my third question into thyour previous sentence than it very much means that regardless of having rules those entities don't even have aura to begin with. I think the role nen plays in Nanika's wishgranting is non-existant regardless of them playing by some set of rules.

While it's definitely still ambiguous I do think the point of the Ants contrasted with Nanika was to show just how utterly bizarre, alien and dangerous the stuff not found in the human world can be.

It was said that it's placed there because of convenience. No "specialization" for conjurers and manipulators. They're crippled.

Well that's just my general feeling, and as with most things related to nen, this ranking isn't absolute and a manipulator could easily win to an emitter given the right circumstances.

However, I put Emitter first because it has the wider range of abilities. You can play it safe and throw ki blasts like razor or you could get creative and emit a creature that makes you basically be a pseudo-specialist like knuckle and his Hakoware.

As to Specialists i put them in the middle because it's very hit or miss, but it honestly shouldn't be in the list considering their users don't follow a regular pattern

Enhancement and Transmuting are both figth oriented, but i find enhancement to be more balanced and useful in most situations.

Conjuration and Manipulation are too restricted in the things you can do with them, that's why i put them last.

Generally no, but remember that Shoot is a manipulator but he has conjured 3 hands as well as a pocket dimension enclosed in a conjured cage.

Knuckles is an emitter we do know this. Camille's cat can also most likely an emissions construct.

It's never stated only that they have a 1% chance later in life to develop something like that.

Nen is the psychic ability to turn your aura into specific effects. And by definition, despite conversion being able to improve the rate of conversion, it is not and can never be omnipotent. That is one limit.

While Specialist could be used as an "anything goes" category, we have only really seen "special senses", "ability thief", and 1 "total invisibility" go into it, out of 12 Specialists who have shown up. And all of these still clearly used the invest aura->get effect model.

Chrollo has only used Conjuration and Manipulation abilities, and we know he and Pakunoda were relatively weak physically, so presumably the Categories still apply to him and all ability thiefs.

While I wouldn't discount Nanika being some weird form of Aura power similar to Nen, her powers clearly exceed the aura capacity of Alluka, and seem to be "loaning" from the wisher's emotional energy (as it targets friends and relatives), not even aura. There is no way Nen could "loan", since it is a conversion system. Nanika also seems to have its own limits, but they don't seem to be based on a human's. It is bad at healing and good at destroying. But that does not fit into the categories we know.

While Nanika has some rules, they are clearly not rules it has chosen. Which is how every restriction in the series has worked. Even someone who knew nothing about Nen like Neon used self-imposed restrictions.

My guess is that each species in the world has its own methods of turning aura into effects, on an instinctual level.

A lot of emotions and relationships in Naruto feel forced by the plot. Plot pivotal relationships like Sasuke-Naruto, Sasuke-Sakura, etc. feel unreasonable. Enough that the actions of the characters are often jarring.
HxH characters are all pretty simple. Most just have 2-4 personality traits, 1-2 goals and a hobby. But they are written into situations where those two personality traits enter conflict with their goals, or their goals come into conflict with eachother, so there is often internal conflict even in Random Grunt #7.
Naruto has a ton more extremist characters who have no doubts about massacring people for the sake of their goals. This is just not as easy to empathize with.
As slow as HxH is during some arcs, Naruto has an even slower pacing and dozens of fights and entire arcs you could remove from the plot once you view back on the series as a whole.
Naruto relies a bit too much on mastermind reveals in its final half. And each mastermind is less likeable than the last and relies on plans that seem even more built upon coincidences and contrivances. Besides Ging, who seems to pretty much know the plot of the manga, every other character in HxH is just smart enough to surprise the reader by improvizing plans from whatever they have at hand, or having created a tricky exploit on the system, or being able to deduce lots of information from minor details. The characters just feel smarter.

The chapters people complain the most about are the ones after Meruem leaves NGL and before the Palace Invasion starts, in my experience. There are some adaptational issues there. As I am sure there are some episodes that aren't adapting even 2 full chapters. But there are also narrative issues because tension de-escalates after Meruem is born, when most people would expect further escalation. And the there is actually little filler there. Just the director purposefully turning a panel in 15 seconds of a character running for some reason and things like that.

And if there is anything to hate 2011 for, I would say it is the fujobait post credit scenes. Filler, censorship and tone changes have more mixed and subjective effects. For example, I hate the Kite backstory, but Binolt became pretty memorable due to his expanded flashback.

Let's discuss nen, to be more precise hatsu.
All basic applications of nen, such as ten, ren, zetsu and their superior counterparts like shu or gyu are quite straightforward to understand and probably require only training to use. It's akin to training an invisible muscle to move in certain ways.
But how does one manage to create more complex hatsu, specifically hatsus with odd and apparently arbitrary abilities like hakoware or Chrollo's book? The conjuration is again a matter of training I suppose, the problem is how one sets the requirements and effects of the conjured object and how does one balance it so it's usable? Do you have to conjure with a certain idea in mind and test it with different setups until it works?

I think hatsu is more like a reflexion of your spiritual potential. You don't train it, it kinda comes to you once you're sufficiently trained in nen.

Seems like a lot of it is from the environment you grow in. Along with talent. Just how the 4th prince manifested a nen beast once his pours were opened. While others that are forced to be made, like Kurapika, he takes the idea of revenge and chains and puts them together. But as for Quwrof, it revolves around him being a bandit and using others from the spiders. Hisoka was just very fond of the candies he had as a kid and his nen properties took shape of what he was very used to, same as Killua. Its also possible for Killua to shape his nen into something different as well, such as poison since he was also subjected to it quite a lot.

The balancing of nen abilities is partially based on the user's nen skill but also on the users own perception on what it should take for his ability to be balanced. Remember how Shizuku can suck blood of his enemies because she doesn't perceive it as a living thing? It's powerful as hell but from her perspective it's perfectly fair because the blood isn't alive, so she can do it.

To a degree probably. Kurapika made his chain jail with the idea that it would force a phantom troupe member into Zetsu but there was no way to test it until he encountered one of their members. So I feel like the user decides on the terms of the ability until it manifests, and then that thing will have that form/function. Then it's just a matter of making sure your conjured object has the ideal effects.

We also see how abilities can evolve like with Kurapika first just generating electricity with his aura, but later he's able to use it to increase his reaction speed and even mobility. Chrollo likewise came up with his bookmark to enable him to cope with an oversight in his original design, the inability to use two handed abilities.

Chrollo much like Kurapika probably made his book in one go, with the idea of how it would work already set in his head. The balancing there came from how ability thieves seem to universally have 1-2 conditions already in place relating to knowing about the ability they want to take, then they have additional conditions that reflect their own mindset. Leol as an ability thief had to get a favor from his target, Chrollo has to get them to touch his book, Benjamin has to have a trained and loyal soldier die, Kurapika has to suck aura from the target.

Making a hatsu seems to be an evolutionary process from the early stages, and there's some time before the idea is fully solidified and then the user has to exert extra effort to change or update that hatsu. It also depends on their individual talents and imagination I'd assume.

The way Bisky trains the kids, it seems like it is pretty similar to training an invisible muscle too. There are basic exercises like giving shape to your Aura and pushing yourself into the air with Aura Emission. Manipulators probably begin putting Aura in an object and trying to move it. Conjurers would probably do something like Transmuters, but get the aura to take all of the properties of the desired object too.

Specialists however are just weird. Meleoron, Neon, and Komugi all made their Hatsu before knowing Nen. And Tserriednich also did it accidentally. The only other case we have is Kurapika, and Emperor Time is the one ability we have no idea how he trained.

Hakoware is actually pretty easy to understand. You would first have to train the ability to punch your Aura into another person. Then you'd train to make it so you manipulate that person into going into Zetsu after they do X. Then improve those things with specific conditions and the Doll counter.

A ton of the Spiders are pretty bland and two-dimensional honestly, this series has tons of better characters, why do people like them as a group so much?
