I heard that the studio who produced the trilogy were set to do a series after that. I think the movie's didn't do too well financially so the Berserk license was handed to another studio.

What probably pushed him over the edge was his complete helplessness after getting rescued from torture. His comrades who once saw him as this godlike/mysterious/invincible leader were now seeing a completely vulnerable and tragic person who they had to care for. He felt humiliated and desperately wanted to get his power back but he couldn’t even lift his sword. That time when he toppled over Casca in the carriage and just lied on top of her, that could’ve been him trying to assert the only bit of power he had left over her. That’s how I interpreted it.

Guts wasnt gay for him

I think he would have sacrificed the hawks even without the torture. There's a very subtle scene in the movie when Griffith is telling Guts about the Behelit. When Guts looks at it and it open's it's eyes he throws it away and starts to fall of a balcony. Griffith goes to save the Behelit first, and then to save Guts second. It's subtle as is demonstrates that Griffith values his dream more than his comrades.

Just re-read the chapter with the discussion and it wasn't in there so I guess it must just be movie only.
If you haven't seen them I would totally recommend the movies. They cut small things out and there is a bit of janky CGI, but overall they get the story down well, keep in all the subtilties, and the 2D animation and soundtrack are just too beautiful for words.

Griffith worked his whole life to get his kingdom but in the end realized that he couldn't control everyone around him. When he realized this, he collapsed and self destructed. Then, after he regained his agency and power, he set about abusing the people who took his power away from him in the first place. That's Griffith. I think it was more that he tried to have sex with her. Casca had worshiped him like a god her entire life, he knew he could have her anytime he wanted to and he wanted to test that out in his broken state.

Casca ends up pitying him and giving him a friendzone hug, getting rejected like that would hurt any man, but it especially hurts when it's a person you've rejected in the past and then have them end up rejecting you.
