Why is Lily Franky in this? He doesn't make anime.
Yamada
Yamada
>no Yuasa
The choice is pretty obvious. Also, you're a loser for omitting Takahata.
>Kon
Loved animation and knew how to utilize it
>Miyazaki
Hates animation and doesn't know how to utilize it
>Oshii
Hates animation and sometimes knows how to utilize it
>Shinkai

Kon. Is not even a contest. Then comes Otomo, Yuasa, Anno and Oshii/Miya

How can other "directors" even compete?
If we're going to do this shit, let's at least do it properly: strawpoll.me
>let me add my favourite director
>now THAT's a list *sips*
objective ranking
Kon
Miyazaki
Yamada
Takahata
Oshii
Yuasa
Otomo
Anno
Shinkai
Yamada
my favourite is Satoshi Kon actually but it would be stupid to include Miyazaki in the top handful and not Takahata, best or not they're on a similar level to each other, with different pros/cons
All four of them are trash compared to maestro Takahata. Shinkai specifically is a talentless hack.
>Kon
he died so he's the best ever
>Miyazaki
he's about to die so he's second best
>Oshii
say something random
>Shinkai
popular right now so I'll shit on him
It's pretty clear that I ranked Miyazaki lowest, but nice try.
Kon. I don't think anyone could use the medium like he could. Don't think anyone else can either.
Only one of these is grouped among legendary Japanese filmmakers such as Ozu, and Kurosawa.

you are legitimately retarded
in what universe is that a 10/10 film
>all films
>but also YKK and Giant Robo for some reason
Wow I didn't know there were so many based Shink/a/i fags
By not being an overrated hack that exclusively indulges himself in overrated artsy flicks.
>less than 90%
Yea Forums is dead. Should be at least 95%. All other options are talentless hacks.
100% accurate, only Kon fuckup is Paprika
Artsy? Lol you are giving him too much credit.
>Colorful - 1/10
>Miss Hokusai - 7/10
Second one looks nicer but nothing fucking happens retard
Miyazaki is the most talent animator there. He doesn't hate animation he hates Otaku culture and how anime has devolved into pedo waifu bait. He is based and you are a huge faggot.
Fucking hell are you hard to please. Giving some of the greatest movies of all time such low scores.
its almost like the poll was proxyed
not really. Anything above a 5 should be considered worth a watch
>most talent animator there
And he's a shit director, which is what the thread is about. He should stuck to drawing.
>He doesn't hate animation
Maybe watch someGhibli documentaries. He addresses animation in such a degrading manner, questioning his own life choices for still "drawing cartoons" during the production of Wind Rises, that his hatred for animation becomes very clear.
>Red Spectacles - 6/10
>Talking Head - 5/10
i wish these were anime
Oshii
Kon > Miyazaki
That's all that matters.
To clarify, Kon is 1st, Miyazaki is 2nd.
I wouldn't say so. I believe ,ost people would consider 6 or 7/10 movies as "ok", you might watch and have some fun with it, it but you won't really lose anything if you don't.
>Yamada
>Yamada
what did he mean by this?
>gives Anno wankfests top scores and shits on masterpieces by Kon, Miyazaki, and Takahata
This is the most hipster post on Yea Forums.
Miyazaki seems to hold animation up to an unachievable standard that not even his work reaches. To say he "hates animation" is only partially correct. I think he likes the idea of animation, but at some point became convinced there was some deeper meaning to it, or higher form maybe, that mere mortals failed to grasp. I don't know how you get to that point, where you devote so much of your life to an art, become one of the greatest living masters of it, and all you can feel is like your'e contributing to the degradation of something noble because you've become so twisted up in your own bizarre ideology of perfection.
He's talking about the clone of the original one who died in the Kyoani fire.
One is boosted due to affirmative action, the other is actual rank.
I think it's a Japanese thing. See Yukio Mishima for the politically opposite but ideologically the same case.
What's going on in this thread?
Will Miyazaki an hero too?
>GITS - 7/10
>Wolf Children - 2/10
>Garden of Words - 1/10
>Koe no Katachi - 2/10
I don't even know where to begin, your taste is incurable
Takahata
You might have some of the worst taste ever seen on this website. Fucking incredible is what it is.
Sometimes the best animators are the ones that just wing it.
One of these is not like the others.
based
Shinkai > Kon > Miyazaki > Oshii
looks like he's in a league of his own, old Yea Forums has been btfo
GodKai!
>forgeting Char's Counterattack
faggot
Good films are too lolrandom
I just looked up a short video on Iblard Jikan. Just a heads upt: Paintings and drawings are not animations. Animations are animations.
>Good
*His
Don't drunk phonepost from a bar if you know what's good for you
*By Western critics that don't pay attention to anime as a medium
Shinkai is simply on another level of genius
As far as what I currently enjoy,
Oshii > Miyazaki = Kon > Shinkai
>Only one of these is grouped among legendary Japanese filmmakers such as Ozu, and Kurosawa.
>*By Western critics that don't pay attention to anime as a medium
Kurosawa had a videoed chat with Miyazaki where he praised Totoro, saying that stuff brought a tear to his eye and other compliments.
Funny how Takahata always gets snubbed.
His works are too Japan-centric to be recognized world-wide.
I think "Horus: Prince of the Sun" in the 1960s was the last western themed film he did.
Yuasa is shit
Probably satoshi kon even if paranoia agent was a piece of boring mediocrity. Perfect blue was fantastic. Then Mamoru oshi only for GiTS wich is great and then shinkai wich is one of the best at pretty colors and ok at script. Miyazaki is a hack
>wich
>wich
Sorry, I can't take the opinions of illiterate swine too seriously. It's little wonder that you don't understand Yuasa's films.
>oshi only for GiTS
Come on:
>Angel's Egg
>UY2
>Patlabor 2
are right up there too.
>trying to force a hack into the official big four
Shinkai is cringe
>no Rintaro
Come on. GE999 movies, Dagger of Kamui, Metropolis. Even X/1999 is beautiful to behold, if somewhat rushed (the cliche of having to compress an entire manga into a movie tho).
Fucking based lmaooo
Shinkai is unironcally more consistent and makes better films then all of them, i'm glad most of Yea Forums officially agrees
He should be taken out of the running and replaced by Rintaro. Respect the fukin' sempai, punks.
name ONE (1) bad satoshi kon movie
Patlabor made me sleep. Havent seen the other two yet so you might be right.
Not quite the best but I have enjoyed everything she's worked on, and I hope she surpasses everyone's expectations with her next work
>hurr durr he forgot a damn h
Yuasa is easy to under stand yet done in a convoluted and pretentious way with ugly ass designs. give me a break and read stuff by fukumoto or ise katsura if you want slice of life done right you faggot.
No director is sacred here huh
This desu
literally unwatchable
I dunno if Kon was the best but his cutting is amazing and it sucks there's probably no director out there who is remotely close. I wish he had a protege or something.
>hayao
Bait
This could be new bait pasta, I have to admit it triggers and infuriates me.
Has anyone ever even seen Yanagawa's Canals outside Japan? I would like to see it, but good luck finding a canal otaku fansub group.
