It was that one theory that claimed that Berserk was set in an alternate version of the real world. Same history and all. With Tudor being England and Midland being France, and Guts being a French Mercenary etc. I don't remember much details other than it being called "The Four God Hand theory" (I think) based on the fact there were Four Angels in the Gaiseric story.

The theory used to be one big imgur image that also said something about how the God Hand were founded but I can't think the image anymore, I know it was a series of Skullknight.net screencaps with a lot of users disapproving of the theory and thinking it was bullshit and ending with an image of Berserk's planet showing that it clearly has the same geography as Earth.

I tried looking for the theory again now, but can't seem to find it, I even went as far as going to reddit but all I found there was some recent translated French interview where Miura confirms that a Griffith battle is imminent, which is interesting to know. Keep in mind that Guts was just a scumbag sword for hire and is personally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people, including children. His most "noble" acts before the black swordsman arc lie in the fact that he was a good leader and protected his comrades. Other than that, Guts has always been a walking disaster. Even during Black Swordsman when he's fighting for something good, he still causes a ton of collateral damage and needless deaths. It's only after assembling the JRPG party that Guts fully transforms into a heroic figure. With all that in mind, you can't really judge Skull Knight and call him a bad guy when he hasn't done much worse than Guts has.

If I am looking at the historical Gaiseric. Yeah I am. And even if not. Gaiseric/Skull Knight held a wise man (presumably a religious leader or politician) starving in a cold cell and hundreds of others if those branded sacrificed prisoners are to be believed. Guts in spite of his behaviour shows a lot of loyalty and intention. The thing that separates Guts from Griffith is intention. Gaiseric thus far appears to be depicted as more of a Griffith-like character than a Guts like character and the character of Skull Knight thus far is too morally ambiguous to be judged, but the fact everyone jumps towards him being a good guy makes me wonder if Miura was planning to make him a red herring and reveal him to be more of an anti-hero or villain than people initially thought.

There's also the fact that Guts willpowered a victory out of his ass after taking that devastating of a beating, at least most of his bones had to have been broken as he bounced from apostle fist to tree to tree and a few hours later he was rampaging so hard during the eclipse he nearly looked like he belonged there among the endless horror.

I am starting to realize I hate Berserk, besides al lthe padding and wasting time it just isn't interesting to read because it is too damn predictable. And really this completely undercut Casca's recovery, like yeah I get it she has PTSD, so did Guts, but he used it to just get even more angry and is at least being productive with it. Csca became a vegetable, and then after getting that fixed after 20 fucking years we get a chapter to waste showing off how she will still be able to fight down the line without people complaining about it being an asspull only to follow that up with her following down again because really they didn't fix shit. All that has changed is that now we have one extra person to waste time with talking and bullshit and a new avenue for drama. GREAT
