death is footage from the series recut into a montage film that isn't exactly a recap (it doesn't explain the story and assumes the viewer already knows the context of each clip), but more like a broad tone-setting piece to create the right kind of atmosphere going into rebirth (which is just the first 'episode' of eoe). i absolutely love death but it's not for everyone, if you liked the way eva was edited, especially in sequences like the tv ending, and want to see more of that in an almost non-narrative style film kinda reminiscent of stuff like lessons of darkness then its very worth watching. it's about atmosphere and feeling rather than any strict narrative or plot to be deciphered

licensing a product is not like buying it, its just paying for (in an initial lump and royalties on top of that usually) authorization to reproduce, distribute, present, ect it. and the fact that the series uses something licensed from a 3rd party in it doesn't mean that the license originally obtained by gainax just transfers over when a different company wants to distribute it in a different market.

this is also why they redubbed it, because paying for an in-house dub that netflix will own in perpetuity is almost certainly cheaper and easier than licensing the old one from whoever has the adv ip

That's "invincible Shinji", Asuka's jealous nickname for him once he starts surpassing her on the sync tests, and after he saves her on several occasions.

Little note. He was 'invincible Shinji' whenever he was in the Eva but as soon as he got out of it he became a meek little bitch again and was too scared to ever be vulnerable or show affection to Asuka, and that pissed her off since she wanted somebody to hold and take care of her deep down.
He's invincible Shinji whenever he is surpassing Asuka in sync tests or in the Eva, her only real pillar of self worth, but as soon as shit goes back to reality and Asuka actually wants/needs his help emotionally, he reverts back to an avoidant child too scared to try and connect with her.

The entire point is that Shinji is too underdeveloped to be able to try and understand the ambiguity in her attitude towards him, and Asuka is too proud to lower her ego so he could actually understand and instead wants him to force it down. He cant 'reject' the real her if he doesnt even understand the real her. Their entire problem is miscommunication.
