So far, not really. The fake KF was a terrible disaster that ruined everything and the artshow after that simply made everything worse. There's a chance KF3 might not be terrible though since the frog doesn't seem to be doing much about it, and though it won't be as good as getting Tatsuki back it's something.

I find it exceedingly weird how Kaban's adventure became the central pillar of Kemono Friends after the end of the Nexon game but everything Mine and KFP tries to do is done with the sole purpose of trying to break it down and replace it.

The anime was the majority of the fandoms first entry into the franchise and the first entry to garner any real attention. I guess it really isn't, when I think about it. It kinda feels like Mirai was supposed to be a sort of main heroine for the franchise and this would have extended to Kaban as well, who is technically a sort of reincarnation of Mirai, as well as her successor as the park guide of Japari Park whom all the Friends look up to and respect. I think it's because of how successful the KF anime was that ultimately changed the dynamic and relationship between the parts of the original trio of works in the franchise. What was supposed to be an extension of the game exploring a far-off future became the present and as a result it became the only thing to move the story forward as the game died prematurely without fully exploring the original "present" of the series. Now, they're left with a "present-time" that even Mine had little input in creating and can't really do anything with it because the main vehicle to explore this new present is no longer readily available for use as they just fired Tatsuki and co. without realizing they were throwing away the future of the series as a result. Now, their only option is to destroy the "present" and do the same treatment with the KF anime did with the Nexon game (unintentionally) through KF2 and the art show lore, but since that backfired horribly, they really have no other means of expanding upon the series than continuing to explore its past. If Kaban's adventures are what brought people to the series and what people expect, then it's no longer their work and that's unacceptable.

An unfortunately true statement. The setting of Japari Park as an actual park isn't really interesting, but the way it was twisted with the anime is almost ingenious. It's probably why everything after the anime tries to emulate its aesthetics, but with varying degrees of success. Even now, I still don't really understand what specifically made the anime so captivating compared to the Nexon game and the manga.

People wrote essays about why KF1 was so good. I think it has to do with the fact it was a simple story that was told really well and that Tatsuki had a 'show don't tell' philosophy which drew viewers in and lead to speculation about what was going on. Also the characters, while simple, were very likable and it was great seeing Kaban journey from being a scared little girl to being the savior of the park without fundamentally changing who she was. KF2 failed at all these things at every conceivable level.

You'll learn to get acclimated to being trapped in a perpetual state of undying rage, anger, and hatred and develop unconscious visual filters to anything KF2 related. At the very least, I'm happy KF2 and the art show lore dump have almost unanimously been ignored since then and people have since gone back to treating Kaban, Serval and Lucky as an inseparable trio of BFFs. I wish Wakame was a separate character from Kaban, though. It's almost a shame such a good design comes at the cost of assuming KF2 is canon and that Kaban will have to suffer Madoka-levels of existential angst for countless generations and even turn into someone else.
