It's there because Anno and co. fucked up the schedule and ran out of time to actually animate the episode. That scene is literally padding you pretentious moron. There is nothing deep about it and there's nothing to appreciate, it would have the exact same impact if it took one minute not three. Two minutes is plenty of time to fit in a whole scene or two.

Not really, we never see the actual state she is in beyond an aesthetic metaphor that represents it. She gets a 'glorious last stand' scene and gets better in the end as a bonus. Kaworu is swiftly crushed and disposed of, the fast cut to the cleaning scene right after only emphasizes how unceremonious the whole ordeal was.

I found her scene to be way more brutal. The blood coming out of her eye, the blood curtling screams, the flash of her maggot ridden corpse, her arm being split down the middle..it all seemed way more violent and graphic than a quick shot of Kaworu's head.
The scene is even more tragic because it comes after Asuka's epiphany and last stand, she gets fucked up just as she decided she wants to live, it's kind of torture porn in a way.
Kaworu wanting to die and still smiling in his very last moments paints a different scene. Especially when we see him doing just fine in the movie.

Misato's issues with her father shouldn't be conflated with Shinji's because those were completely different relationships and there's a lot of projecting going on on Misato's part. It's less about confronting and more about getting over his aching need for Gendo's love and approval, which he was never going to get anyway. Shinji turning back and walking away from him permanently is a form of release from his turmoil. It's the only way for him progress beyond his father complex and gain emotional indemendence because he was never getting anything out of him anyway. Confrontation wouldn't achieve anything in his case.

That's because nothing in Rebuild or Eva franchise really comes close to the intensity of EoE. Kaworu is just a ghost by the time EoE rolls out so there's no reason to brutalize him. As is Rei though so I don't really see the dismembering of her god form as targeted against her personally. It's an empty shell that she chose to abandon freely before it fell apart.

Shinji's hate for his dad was more for casting him out and then appearing to have raised another kid, he thinks he's necessarily a child because nobody raised him, that he missed out on something everybody else seems to have had and that any of them have their shit any more together than he does. He thinks for a while that there's a possibility for reconciliation until the dummy plug kills that, but that wasn't a new thing for Shinji to be mad about so much as learning all over again Gendo was an asshole.
