Oda lost the plot.
Earlier arcs had a very strong sense of progression and momentum. But Wano and Dresrossa are a total mess.
The pacing is very stop-and-go, lots of uninteresting side characters and plot eating away page time.
I mean considering how many characters we have in the mix (with more to join in, where is Marco btw?) we're wasting a whole chapter on this fox guy with his barely passable side-story.
This is all forgettable stuff and time should not even be wasted on it.

Vignettes like this chapter are more in the style of classic One Piece than a lot of recent arc chapters that have frenetically hopped around between different straw hats every couple of pages. If anything, I think he's starting to find his groove for Wano.

He claimed that the scholars may have been too hasty, and heavily implied that the truth of the Void Century--the secrets of the world--is pretty mind blowing. Something you should only learn and judge after you've become very worldly. It's pretty telling that none of the former Roger Pirates attempt to spread the truth or support the Revolutionaries.
What I think is clear is that despite knowing how to read the runes, the Oharans were fairly ignorant and didn't understand what kind of fire they were really playing with. They were only going off of one poneglyph and whatever manuscripts could be found, after all.

Two things they failed to consider that I believe are immensely important:
1. How did the 20 kingdoms succeed in wiping out nearly all knowledge of 100 fucking years of history, even from Ancient Kingdom aligned nations they failed to conquer such as Shandora, Fishman Island, and Wano?
2. Why did the Ancient Kingdom make it so difficult to learn the truth, scattering unique fragments of knowledge across the world and in a secret language? It's clear they didn't want just anyone learning about it. Part of the Shandian poneglyph keeping chant is "Hold the truth in your heart, keep your mouth silent" for fuck's sake.
