I've mentioned in previous threads my theory that Das Finale 1 and 2 might be backdoor pilots for a BC Freedom spinoff. The results of Round 1 of the Tournament show that Actas wants to focus more on the already established teams, so why have Ooarai face a new school for their first match? It gives them a chance to establish characters and conflict while using Ooarai to give them publicity and provide a link to the original characters.
While the narrative of Das Finale inevitably shafts the team, the simple fact that Marie was able to outsmart Miho and Yukari is a testament to her skill as a commander. The way that BC Freedom lost shows that the team hasn't completely overcome its problems, likely leaving that for a future work.
It's similar to how Der Film established Chihatan and their Totsugeki flaw, while showing that Nishi and Fukuda were both open to less suicidally reckless ideas. They're now reaping the benefit by making it to Round 2. Marie has a much tougher problem to deal with that can't be fixed by using phrases like "reverse charge" or "static charge", especially since Andou and Oshida can't stop themselves from getting sucked into the factional infighting.

BC Freedom has a full match with Ooarai as its introduction, whereas Koala Forest, Legion Azul, and Bonple are only getting short scenes showing how they lost to previously established schools. Presumably, if a BC Freedom spinoff is in the works, they'd probably get more development there, but the frogs would have priority over them right now, which would be why they'd be fighting Ooarai. They've at the very least established the basic concepts for the other teams, moreso than Pravda's and KMM's Match 1 opponents got in the show, but it's necessarily less focus than BC Freedom.
Keep in mind, I'm approaching this from the perspective of "which new team in Das Finale is most likely to get a spinoff", since out of the previously established teams, St. Gloriana and Saunders are the only ones who don't have a spinoff.The simple fact that this OVA series is titled Das Finale indicates that this is supposed to be the capstone for Ooarai's story, and having them face a new school in the first round allows them to pass the torch and generate interest for that school.
Granted, there's the possibility that they ignore all that and continue with Miho's third year, but Ooarai is no longer the underdog, and I don't think watching Miho drown in the paperwork that Turtle Team used to handle, or watching Tsuchiya struggle to keep the tanks running while trying to train replacements for Nakajima, Suzuki, and Hoshino is as compelling as watching a new team.
If they were to continue with Ooarai, I'd suggest shifting focus from Miho to Azusa as designated heir, while she tries to figure out how to establish herself as more than just Miho's replacement, with subplots showing the new Team Captains trying to step out from under their predecessors' shadows. But if that's the case, why show new schools at all? There are plenty of chances to introduce new characters with the yearly turnover without expanding the focus.

RW BC-Freedom and "Canon" BC-Freedom are different and seem to be fighting for different reasons. The first one was simply because they were different schools that were forced into one and each side developed an us-vs-them mentality which later turned into Freedom taking the lead and oppressing BC. The modern version is more about how both schools are incompatible in ideals, being closer to revolutionary France. So them accepting that they are a single school and cooperating only for them to fight each other again because they have realized how different they are would make sense.

They now seem pretty united, their team is coordinating greately and there are no longer any fights, but Asparagus has stated that there is still some "Bad blood" between them.

I'd say there's probably a generation gap issue between Asparagus and Marie. Asparagus is likely from the last group of students from before the BC-Freedom merger, so her concerns were centered around ending that rivalry. Meanwhile, the younger students, who had no prior allegiance to either school, formed new cliques, centered around the divide between Escalator and Examination students. The younger students picked up the tactics of their senpais, and Asparagus had her hands full trying to mend old wounds, so the newer wound began to fester.
Asparagus' resignation would thus mark the end of the BC-Freedom rivalry, while Marie looks to deal with the new rift in the team that had gone unnoticed.
I remember seeing some user commenting on a picture of BC Freedom's school ship, saying that there was a dividing line halfway along the ship, between the bow and stern, likely separating Escalator and Examination students. He also mentioned that there was a line running down the center of the ship, separation port and starboard. He suggested that the other line might have divided the BC and Freedom students, but that the divide was abandoned, signifying the changes made by Asparagus. I'd suggest the new line was created by the post-merger students, as the Escalator students were unwilling to share resources with Examination students.
