Naw it always had character development stuff like this and it was completely fine... when it wasn't like, 2-3 chapters a YEAR. That's the ultimately problem, each bit takes so fucking long it's hit the point of ceasing to be a coherent narrative for a lot of us.

Which is actually kind of interesting now that I think about it, I wonder where exactly the line is, I can handle monthly overall and keep it straight. And even every other month sometimes (like when authors take a vacation) isn't too bad. But at some point I just lost connection with Berserk, and I don't even particularly dislike where it's gone like lots of people. It just plain became too long apart. A 4koma or something where every chapter is self-contained can probably survive as a once in a while thing, but it killed pacing.

Wonder if it'd be better if he just released an entire new volume at once like once every 2 years or whatever. Having action ups and downs works better if you can just chug through an entire volume at one time, even if it's way longer between them. Not like Miura doesn't have plenty of money at this point, he should be able to do what he wants on schedule.

Guts didn't leave because he felt spurned one bit, it's precisely because he respected Griffith so much and wanted to be his true, genuine best bro friend. But because Guts isn't very well socially adjusted, he took Griffith's words to the princess 100%, that Griffith would only ever consider anyone a true friend if they were a true equal and all his mere followers were just subjects.
