I don't think so. Apparently 吉 (Kichi) is a common 2nd character for a male name, so I guess she just add that in with the Kabu from Kabuto (Beetle).

Yes but adult form rhino beetles lose the ability to eat solid food they had as a grub. So they need to slurp up liquids for sustenance, they especially go after sweet liquids for energy, hence hanging out on trees sucking up sap. Depending on the species they may live far less of their lives as adults than grubs, mostly just becoming adults to procreate, but some species live as long if not longer in their adult form.

So in short the licking is a cartoony way of representing an actual thing Rhino beetles do.
