Blue Submarine no6

Just watched this and I can't wrap my head around why people like it except to jerk off to fish tits am I just retarded?

>Protag is a dickhead
>Female is annoying
>Antagonist talks like he has some sort of moral superiority, and IT TREATS IT LIKE HE DOES even though he is absolutely in the wrong
>Hardly anything explained (I get that they were trying to cram it all in but they literally never mention that the little girl is actually communicating with the fishmen)
>In the end the fish people prove that they basically are no better than wild beasts

Can anyone please for the love of all that is holy explain to me why people think this is good??????????

A product of its time, one of the first anime to have a large western network tv audience outside the main toonami bunch.
Also Mutio is cute and there needs to be no other justification to watch her.

I had vague memories of watching this when it aired on Toonami and thinking it was really cool but I never saw the ending, so maybe like a year or so ago I rewatched it and I thought it was terrible.

The biggest complaint I had was that in the final episode the villain gives his big monologue explaining WHY the fuck he's doing anything that he's doing... whatever the fuck he was doing, but his explanation basically consisted of him spending 15 minutes repeatedly saying "i rejected this world" without ever going into any details about what specifically prompted him to reject this world or why he thinks creating a sentient race of fishmen and waging war against all of humanity was the best solution. It was irritating to sit through and made for an extremely disappointing and unsatisfying finish.

The only thing I really give the anime any points for is there were a handful of scenes that were striking (and those were the scenes that stuck out in my Toonami memories and made me want to rewatch the show in the first place). The choir of fishgirls appearing and the conversation between the MC and one of the giant psychic whales were probably the two best points of the anime.

true she is very cute

Yeah its got some great scenes. Although I fully understand why I do think its a bummer theres so much awful cg in it

Now read exhentai.org/g/639505/d8c9866de6/ while listening to the OST.

The Murata designs

Attached: Murata.jpg (1200x2017, 538K)

Looking back, I think Mutio was the first anime character I fapped to. I discovered fapping probably 3 weeks prior.

Based

Hot submarine action.

But yes, the plot is retarded. This is one of the media that I consume because it gives my imagination a good jumping off point, like Last Exile or P.N. 03

I feel like I haven't seen nearly enough Murata art given how much he must have done in several decades, and I don't understand how the number of anime using his designs sits at about 10. I've seen more from Shirow Masamune, unfortunately.

My top 3 doujins for sure. Zton is fucking unreal.

But he is superior. You're just inferior.

I need more Mutio

We all do, user, we all do.

Zorndike did nothing wrong

Zorndyke did EVERYTHING wrong, his "Dr. Moreau" creations would've been fine had he introduced them to the environment better and not fucked over humanity while making said beast men wage war against humanity

>Background characters designed better than main characters
>It's another Murata just redrew Lavie and Alex
getting real tired of this shit Murata you did it to Cop Crap too.

He's a dick because he lost everything. Its suppose to be relatable.

Didn't his plan involve fucking up the magnetic poles of the earth to the point where ALL life on earth would die?? What was his plan?

He wanted to fuck humans up his creatures would've been fine

>am I just retarded?
You don't believe in history and ignore it. Blue Submarine No. 6 was a ground breaking anime for its time. It combined tranditional animation methods with computers that were just entering the anime industry at the time.

>Can anyone please for the love of all that is holy explain to me why people think the picture of this person is good?
Sure he looks poorly dressed to you. If you saw him walking down the street, Tyrone would mug him and stomp on his joints to break them.

He has dentures! What a loser. He doesn't even know what a light bulb is. Talk about DIM-witted and stupid. And does he even know public speaking? He wasn't a good public speaker. Any BLM protestor would talk circles around this old stupid looking HOMELY guy. Besides ugly, he owned slaves and worked them until his death. Yeah, this old guy is no good. He owned slaves right to the end. He didn't even build a wall.

you know op the things you listed are qhy people like it. Characters dont follow an average trope but a less average one. The antagonist does think he is in the right.

>great designs
>cute muuto
>incredibly sexy murata tomboy
>cool protag
>early cg that was awesome at the time
>great action set pieces
>cool jazzy ost
>some very nice direction and editing
Now, sadly what was bad about it
>boring or bizzare characterizations
>plot not making sense at all
makes it kinda bad.
Still.
I do to this day enjoy some jazzy tracks from it, think about those cool sub scenes with the sunken city, the awesome first dock mech action scene. And how good the girl and her ass looked in the scuba suit.

Ah yes groundbreaking animation, which is exactly what I pointed out as the issue not the awful plot. Now that you show me the folly of my ways I understand how one could be so blinded by the beauty of what they beheld that they didn't even notice they were watching a first draft plot at best.

true the music is great

I don't know I'd still say the characters are stilly pretty tropey
>Mopey bad boy with tragic past, plays by his own rules cuz he's too cool for chain of command
>Female who is basically just a nice piece of ass and somehow becomes attached to a man that she has shared less than 15 minutes of screen time with and in that time has shown himself to be an asshole and a traitor to their cause helping the enemy.

I don't have any issue with the antag thinking he's right, thats fine, my issue is the way the show itself presents it (music, pacing, etc) shows that we should at least partly agree with him.

You know I've actually given this more thought and I think your point holds more value then was shown in my first response. Yes I did just ask why people like it and you gave very valid reasoning. I guess its just that I really can't personally enjoy things purely for spectacle. Such as the fast and furious movies, which are apparently great if you just don't think about it, but I shouldn't expect everyone to have the same point of view as me.

Fast & Furious movies are the price Vin Diesel must contractually pay to get the green light for the movies he actually wants to do (the Riddick series)

>I can't wrap my head around why people like it

Many of those people are "oldfag" anime fans back in the 1980's and early 1990's. Personal computers were still expensive and weak things compared to now. Heck, people still posted GIF images on Yea Forums in the early years and that was 2003 onwards. So you can imagine how primitive computers were in the 1980's and early 1990's when shows like Blue Submarine No. 6 were bringing computer animation into video reality.

Hmm, I must have deleted all the older ones, but this GIF was posted on Yea Forums in 2004. I remember when pictures had just 4 colors. Ahhhh, those were the days of color computing. Finally free from monochrome green or monochrome amber monitors.
