It's an episodic comedy, so it doesn't actually go anywhere or have any overlying plot. Then towards the ending, it gets an overlying plot.. If you really don't want to go through all the chapters, the anime covers a collection of chapters from roughly 1-200 and is a pretty faithful adaptation that still has a bit of old SHAFT flair to it, then you can continue on from that point.
