The only authoritarian part about the FPA was the suppression by the PKC, which was technically illegal and had law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges had chosen to pursue justice instead of be complicit or give in to fear, much like how organized crime has been dealt with in the real world for centuries in the real world, the system would have operated as intended.
Corruption =/= authoritarian.

Iserlohn was the Empire's primary base for staging incursions into FPA territory you fucking dumbass. And the main thing preventing the FPA from bringing the fight to the Empire at all since it was smack in the middle of one of the only safe space routes.

The fortress was worth capturing but they should have pushed for peace afterwards, but that wouldn't be good back home since the general population would focus on other problems then.

Yes and the Battle at Amlitzer completely crushed the Alliance's military and economy. With about 30% of the GDP going to the military they became severely dependent on Phezzan shekels. That also facilitated Reinhard's Schliefen Plan and eventually rendered Iserlohn entirely useless. Yang also foresaw this but once again the Alliance is a clusterfuck of failure.

But that did not happen. If the Alliance had not gone greedy the invasion might now have happened. And if they just accepted Reinhard's rule no bloodshed would have occured. The Alliance is just the same side of the coin. They were crazy for trying to crush the Empire. Just stay behind your maginot and wait it out.

Well Empire kept trying to seize the planets near Iserlohn corridor for 150 years. Can't blame the FPA for not liking them.

Even if they made a peace treaty after capturing Iserlohn, with Reinhard's rise to power it probably wouldn't have lasted long. Peace treaty would give FPA time to recover, but who knows if in the meantime the Empire won't grow even stronger?
Even though FPA government was pushing for war because of the elections and the campaign was poorly planned, the general idea that they need to go on the offensive wasn't wrong.
