Maybe something like her only friend as a child was similar to Yui, but they got separated due to her parents moving, and she never really made friends after that so she became somewhat isolated and a bit of a bully, which gives the playground scene some context and explains her self-importance, awkwardness in some situations, and attachment to Yui.
I think this would enhance her chemistry with Akari which is important in my opinion since they've always kind of felt like a "process of elimination" couple with no substance behind it except comedy. Akari is quite different than Yui so going out with her would represent Chinatsu getting over her first love. Plus, Akari is the sort of sweet girl who can accept people for who they are which would be exactly what this version of Chinatsu would need.
