This chapter won't take too long to scanlate. If I fall asleep before it's cleaned and redrawn, it should be out tomorrow morning.
After I'm done dumping this, I'm going to read this week's King of Gladiators/Shabaou and, if it's as good as I'm expecting, I'll make a dump thread for that.
He's Iwanami Chaos, a mixed martial artist who has never been defeated in Japan.
Michael Ortiz
So he's a jobber in the proper sense of the word, for once.
Luke Sanchez
thanks for the dump new guy looks like clean Motobe lol
Lincoln Nguyen
Yeah especially here , pretty sure the meme master got an almost identical panel during Musashi Dou.
Justin Russell
Jobmobe will show us how powerful this sumofighters are...we totally gonna get impressed by how effortlessly they fuck him up. 10/10 writing.
Jordan Kelly
so itagaki is doing this because he's sympathetic to whatever real life sumo politics is going on right? so the western equivalent would be him doing a story about taking a knee?
John Perry
This series was announced well before those things happened, if memory serves.
Jordan Adams
counting the musashi part, yes. sukune's at most a year old right?
Adrian Cox
What are you talking about?
At any rate, Sukune was shown at the end of Musashi Dou in April(?) 2018.
Evan Miller
if you count baki dou from the beginning (musashi) then it definitely preceeds whatever IRL sumo stuff is happening now. though from what i can recall from previous discussions, the IRL sumo stuff has been going on for quite a while.
Michael Edwards
>the IRL sumo stuff That means nothing. Refer to something specific or your point is unclear.
The Takanohana stuff did start happening a few months before the first appearance of Sukune, but it didn't hit its apex until almost exactly that time - by which point Itagaki had surely already at least drafted the chapters.
Anthony Wood
>mma fighter >doing some kind of meme punch instead of actually keeping his distance
Brody Bell
Who's the tiny guy based off of?
Lucas Price
Enhou.
The rest, excluding Hakuhou, are much harder to tell. I am of the opinion that the tall one is Dewagatake.
Landon Jones
Not him but I could have sworn I heard a long time ago that sumo was losing respect in Japan. I think it was when that Go Nagi looking sumo series about that moral-less dick MC started and that it was doomed to fail because nobody cared about Sumo. I might be misremebering or manufacturing events in my head so I dunno
Adam Howard
>MMA Fighter >The bell isn't being rung already because a hit landed.
Alexander Flores
No, you're right, but those are various issues spread across decades. Though, in large-part, those affairs were just the products of doomsayers. It's only this most recent one which actually had any percent of the general Japanese public pissed off.
John Sanchez
Where does one can find full Maximum tournament and first Jack arc? On all scanlations sites i have trued they are for some reason absent
William Hall
they aren't scanlated you have to take the raws
Joseph Sullivan
On that matter, I now have to reupload some 1,000 pages because fireden shut down and fucking desuarchive lost the image data for 5 volumes of my threads
Brody Gutierrez
How many IRL Rikishi actually have cauliflower ears?
Logan Campbell
That tall as fuck guy is probably at best 6 foot because of Japan and their weird sense of scale
So i don't get it, was Scarface drawn by Itagaki or the guy which he works with? And who writes it?
Brody Smith
Itagaki is given the always nebulously defined 'production' credit; Yamauchi is listed as the artist. With the way the industry works, the fashion in which Itagaki contributes is essentially unknowable. They might mean that he created Baki and is therefore technically responsible; or, they might mean that he storyboards each page of the series; or, anything in between.
The art looks really good for it to not be done by Itagaki himself.
Evan Richardson
Miyatani Kengo is just that good
Leo Ross
El Pacquiao blanco.
Luis Nelson
i wonder who this guy is gonna face.
Matthew Murphy
>six sumos >Baki, Katsumi, Haneyama, Doppo, Shibusawa, ??? Is Jack going to show up or maybe someone else or what?
Logan Murphy
i hope jack but wouldn't be surprised if motobe jumped into the mix
Joshua Wilson
>motobe jobs to sumo again humbled ali jr. replaces him and becomes a baki bro.
Jace Evans
sounds good to me
Jordan Campbell
Never gonna happen. Real life Ali Jr is a shitter so Itagaki dropped him
Caleb Ramirez
I know Nippon Banzai and all that jazz, but Itagaki knows Sumo has a horrible record with actual MMA fighting right? It's probably the 2nd least winning style after Akido.
Connor Gonzalez
that's why i'm curious as to who from baki's side loses
Leo Green
and che guevarra was a real life ninja. at this point, any sense of realism has long been thrown out of the window so that's kinda moot. what matters is do we enjoy the ride or not?
Zachary Sullivan
just watched the netflix anime and I really liked it ignoring the cgi fights, should I watch the 2001 series?
Nolan Parker
>Baki >Not just telling you a few key points and making shit up along the way.
This is a series with a dude who can pull down a helicopter or close to it and man who beat up elephants well getting struck by lightning. The fighting realism only needs to detail actions the people take and be smart it doesn't matter how retarded it is in real life. In most real fights with no bars held people die very quickly anyways.
Tyler King
I've only just started reading, and I'm on "son of ogre", but I LOVE this guy's art style.
Austin Allen
I mean that guy who's supporting Sukune said earlier that the current world of sumo is sort of shit, maybe it'll be like the Raitai tournament where most of/all the sumo get stomped?
Lucas Butler
that's what i'm expecting but which baki boy is gonna lose?
Jordan Nguyen
>and che guevarra was a real life ninja. I mean you can excuse it because he's a legend. Meanwhile Ali Jr is literally a nobody with a legendary name attached
Aaron Johnson
The fuck? That's it? Itagaki you fucking hack.
Jace Gutierrez
Jack is a safe bet.
Robert Sanders
i knew that was coming
Jaxon Flores
Katsumi with Retsu's arm jobbing is a guaranteed shit storm so that leaves Jack in the unenviable spot of making the competition look good. Is Jyaku Kaioh available? He'd job but it'll be amusing at least.
Matthew Gray
This chapter giving anyone else Garouden vibes?
Jacob Miller
i'd love to see jyaku make a comeback
William Hall
He outright talks about it in the end of Musashi Dou.
Hudson Martinez
I'm guessing shibukawa since he alluded to wanting to test the limits of aiki. might find that it can't beat some sumo or something
Aiden Williams
son of ogre is great, have you got the pickle the caveman yet?
Gavin Perry
>if motobe jumped into the mix It's never good when this happen.
Samuel Davis
shibukawa
Jeremiah Rivera
I think that we all assumed that his comment was about Sukune, because of the bone-grabbing. That's the only thing I can think of which could be *logically* considered to be beyond the limits of aiki, because you can't manipulate your skeletal structure.
Noah Rogers
Translator-kun, what are your thoughts on Kengan Asura?
Nolan Nelson
bros... all I want is for jack to get another cool fight. I was so happy when he kicked ali jr's ass but he's been all downhill since then
Why do they all have cauliflower ear unlike other characters in the series? Sumo isn’t even a strike sport.
Isaiah Gomez
doesn't mean they don't fight other people who aren't sumo
Jacob Scott
It's Sukune II
Thomas Rogers
cauliflower ear comes from grappling... doppo has it too.
Wyatt Reyes
I think it's an interesting and altogether different (read: not comparable) manga. I read it weekly. Though, I confess that I am much more interested in its story than I am in its characters; for this reason, I think Kengan Omega is, presently, too slow. Who worries about how we get there? I just want to see the hood lifted, the face of the man in the iron mask, the name of the sled. Codger and Rookie buying shirts doesn't quite grab my attention.
Ryan Bailey
Where can I read the one shots about the 4 prisoners ? What's even the name of these one shots ?
you're right, he's a fairly obvious candidate to lose.
Ryan Ramirez
>Itagaki remembers that Jack knows aiki too so that he can lose here for this reason
Austin King
>but he's been all downhill since then It could be worse. He could have fight against Musashi and fucking died.
Gavin Perry
Not him but I liked that fight though, not ending I wanted but I didn't find it hard to believe (compared to Jack getting Memetobe'd). Pickle should've died instead though.
David Mitchell
Pickle always felt like a non-character to me, killing him off instead of Retsu would have been much better. Would have made Musashi seem even more impressive, even if he did beat Pickle later on
Nathaniel Flores
Why is Jack such an endearing character? He's my absolute favourite of the series and seems to be in most people's top 3, but I really can't pinpoint what exactly makes him so popular
Had the best fights in the Max Tournament arc + Sad backstory that will never be resolved because Yujiro's character role has changed I think he's lame now though to be honest, his fighting style used to be pretty varied but now he's just Haneyama except with muh biting instead of muh grip. He's going further and further off the deep end with the drugs too which no other character seems to be bothered by.
Ethan Walker
>Mom raped and and became mentally scarred because of it >Wants to avenge her by beating Yujiro and is willing to go through literally anything to be stronger than him >Has a hype way of fighting
Thomas Kelly
>which no other character seems to be bothered by Maybe because he seems to be able to survive it. Anyone else would have died from what he took in the tournament.
Adam Cruz
Honestly we could do with a decent length Jack Gaiden Shame he was put aside, it would've been nice if he and Baki actually developed a brotherly relationship, albeit an estranged one
Samuel Stewart
I hope Jack actually manages to surpass Yujiro someday, just mention it in an epilogue or something
Samuel White
Speaking of characters completely shoved aside, Kaku Kaioh fight when?
Brayden Bailey
Kaku is just too strong I think, who would he even fight? A lot of the other Kaiohs coming back might be fun but I feel like if that was going to happen it would've happened by now
Jayden Lee
>Jack Gaiden That would be something which I would insist Itagaki draw himself. There's no way one of the assistants could pull it off just right.
I get why he can't (I mean him not being Jap is the main stated reason why, I feel like Itagaki didn't used to care about this sort of thing as much early on though...), he's fucking up his body.
Owen Ramirez
>Anyone surpassing Yujiro >Jack surpassing Baki The best we'll ever get is Long!Jack fighting Yujiro and doing a decent amount of damage, ending in Jack either getting killed by Yujiro or having a heart attack
Luis Walker
>him not being Jap is the main stated reason why when was that ever stated
David King
That's always what people here say whenever someone asks why Jack's a loser
Andrew Roberts
>Anyone surpassing Yujiro Baki is definitely going to surpass Yujiro someday >Jack surpassing Baki This is why I said to mention it in an epiloge, Baki has already beaten Yujiro at that point and then Jack accomplishes the same at some point in the future
Jonathan Brooks
>Kaku is just too strong I think This seems to be implying that Pickle is stronger
Sure, but nothing like that has ever been written in the manga.
Jackson Powell
Jack needs a teacher figure or something to sort his shit out, dunno who could fit that role though.
I'd like Jyaku and also the Muay Thai dude to come back.
Juan Perry
>Jack needs a teacher figure or something to sort his shit out, dunno who could fit that role though. Shibukawa would make sense since he already knows some Aiki
Michael Murphy
i fucking love jack man
Jonathan Lee
i like kengan too but you summed my feelings up perfectly. it irks me when i see people try to shit on grappler to prop it up.
Asher Torres
YFW Jack improves physically, mentally and emotionally by no longer wanting to avenge his mom. That's just screwed up but scarily plausible.
Jason Anderson
Shibukawa teaching Jack perfect Aiki would be kino I could settle with Memetobe acting as a mentor
Austin James
Alright, done. I don't think we really need a new thread, so, whatever.
>bottom right Looks like a father and his children
Robert Myers
Big guy seems pretty chill
Bentley Mitchell
Not exactly, but that's what I tried to make it into. He uses a gambler's idiom which refers to having good luck and which uses the word 'pull'. In sumo, 'pulling' is considered something a rikishi shouldn't ever do; you should push. We could follow this a little further, but let's not.
They're both cool, honourable guys. They'll probably become good friends
Adrian Wright
Where do I get this legendary Ume fruit? Will I get as strong as Yuujiro if I eat those!
Christian Baker
A statement from a blog I've found might help to answer the former of your questions. >... the North American ume crop is small and the season short: The fruits are only available in stores for two to three weeks around late May/early June.
So, if you're American, at least you know *when* to look.
