Skull Knight is going to tell him something that will convince him that he can put off dealing with Griffith any longer and he will also use it as convenient excuse to stay away from Casca so he doesn't have to worry about triggering her whenever they are near each other and he doesn't have to suffer because of it.

You might be right but I really don't think this incident is enough reason for him to just leave her yet. Some kind of confrontation needs to happen where casca tells guts she hates him or something before he just bails. I think it's much more likely that casca will come to terms with her terrible eclipse memories and want to go kill griffith immediately, an idea guts will try to dissuade her of.

Are you all forgetting that Moonboy is literally approaching the island as we speak? He'll obviously play a role in helping Casca and Guts reconcile, every scene with him has been about making them a whole family again.

I think you're ignoring Guts's recent character development. He's been starting to realize the terrible toll his rage has taken on him. I think it's way more likely that at some point guts is going to try and convince casca to just leave griffith be so they can live some semblance of a normal life. Casca won't listen because she's in full Black Swordsman/Lost Children Guts mode and guts will go along with her.

How is this incident not enough? He finally got what he wanted all along, Casca is a sane person who can have a happy life with her friends once again, except for one final thing that is standing in the way of that happiness: Guts himself.
I can totally see him fucking off for her sake instead of doing it because of some dumb argument. Plus Casca telling that to Guts after everything he did for her would make the entire fanbase hate her and I doubt Miura wants that.

So instead of Moonboy showing up and fixing things, he could wind up making them way, waaaay worse this time. That's not even getting into the fact that Femto hates witches and spirit trees and Moonboy would be leading him right to the motherlode.

He spent all this time protecting her and trying to fix her so she could be happy once again and now she is fixed and doesn't need any protection because she can handle herself and they are in a supposedly secure magical island, the sort of place where she is also more likely to heal from her mental wounds.
With that in mind, leaving her behind to go deal with Griffith after hearing whatever the fuck Skull Knight came to say would fit his goal of protecting her since he would be getting rid of the cause of all their suffering and a potential danger, staying away from her so she doesn't have to suffer everytime she looks at him and maybe even give her the time she needs to recover.
If anything Guts would need to be a selfish asshole to insist on staying close to her when his mere presence causes her panic attacks.
