I preferred Dororo. Whilst MP100 had amazing animation the actually story and depth of the characters was extremely shallow. Its all very black & white when it comes to good vs evil.

Blade of the Immortal is a monster of the week affair about a jobber who loses all the time because he sucks badly, even though he's presented as a great swordsman. Eventually he wins by attrition and moves on to the next fight. Takashi Miike made a movie about it recently which was probably better than the anime will be, even though he pussied out to the West by removing the signature 卍 sign from the MC's clothes.

Vinland Saga has zero substance up until now, so it's going to have to become a completely different story to beat Mob Psycho, and as a battle shounen KnY is better.

All the ones I mentioned are more recent than those. I just don't understand why the name of the director can be a good reason to get excited for an anime series unless he's also the series creator and preferably also chief animator as well. Following a studio is more reasonable, and even that is not reliable. The source material ends up having the biggest impact almost every time.

First half was definately AOTY stuff, but bogging down with the long shounen fighting arc, no matter how well animated it was, lost most of my interest.
