The theming is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Nen’s mechanics, most of the fights will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Gon’s unique outlook on morality, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Machiavelli's The Prince, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these characters and battles, to realize that they’re not just epic or cool- they say something deep about LIFE in this rich, vibrant world Togashi has created. As a consequence people who dislike HunterXHunter truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the subtlety and drama in Killua overcoming his own hesitation and growing as a character by ripping his brother’s controlling needle out of his head, which itself is a brilliant parallel to the writings of Takuhan Soho. Rihan's internal monologues are still exposition, it also helps us understand Rihan's thoughts. There is no stretching of any definition, look it up if you're still going to contest this simple point.

A bit of it is explained later, but the role of bodyguards is not only to guard the princes from potential assassinations but also to carry out assassination plans on other princes, killing a prince is still illegal and carries behind it the weight of a death sentence for the guard and their entire family, therefore they should carry out their assassinations flawlessly and silently while also leaving just enough evidence behind for when the prince they are serving becomes a king so that they can get priveleges from helping them ascend into that position by eliminating an important part of the SW, the guards are almost all ready to give up their lives for their princes.
The association guards are two types, actual Hunters and provisional Hunters, the provisional Hunters are only offered Hunter licenses for the Dark Continent voyage, they are employed for large amounts of money by the princes and their jobs is to help the princes land on the new continent safely, I don't know what you mean by royal guards, but there is three types of guards, Hunter association guards, Prince specific guards and Queen specific guards.
I've only read through the SW once so correct me Hunterchads if I made any mistakes.

They are under the direct control of King Nasubi and are acting as a neutral group enforcing the rules of the succession war as well as protecting the lower levels of the ship.

There is also the the Justice Bureau who acts alongside the royal army. They seem to just handle investigations and monitoring of people under house arrest. The royal army handles the actual arresting proceedings and the trials.

One of my favorite things about Rihan's internal monologues, besides working as characterization due to the nature of his ability, is how it contrasts with fucking Kanjidolt process of thought. Rihan can get some things wrong, but he's never too far from the mark, in his last monologue he's just anxious about Halken's beast and may act hastily. Kanjidolt, on the other hand, makes wrong assumptions and is even led to more wrong conclusions by Basho, and then has to be corrected almost entirely by Balsamico. I like how Ben's guards being presented so differently.

Because Togashi is writing what he wants to personally read, and doesn't cater to any faggots, if you don't like it then you can consider HxH over when Gon met his dad, otherwise stick around, this is the first arc in HxH that delves into Togashi's tastes as a reader, he specifically wants to make an arc as complex as possible with a huge cast of characters and plot lines that are all very well developed to the point where the regular reader just can't keep up, it's surprisingly realistic considering the weight of the succession war and how every person on this boat can end up dead because of the smallest piece of misinformation or mistake.
My favorite arc personally, but the Chimera ants are up there aswell.

That's what makes this such a good series of deductions by different characters; people making wrong conclusions, but it's all either related to other correct information or gets corrected.

Basho isn't wrong that haunting type abilities are a factor here, but he's wrong on who is using them. Everything about his deduction applies to Camille because we know Benjamin places more value on the lives of his soldiers.

Meanwhile Kanjidol is probably correct in that Halkenburg did something during the shooting which served as a distraction the rumbling of aura these last couple times have been him firing his bow. The current theory I think holds the most ground is that Halkenburg exploited the fact that rooms have similar layouts and fired a bow into the adjacent room (prince 7) in order to infiltrate there as well as testing out his theories about where the spirit of his men goes after the current host expire. Meaning the goate wearing dude in the room is probably possessed, a person Kanjidol suspects of conspiring with the 2nd queen and halkenburg.

So even when people are wrong there's information the reader can use from that.

Togashi wanted to create the Shonen Jump arc with the most named characters and needed to make something with more characters than even Soccer Shonen. That is the biggest reason. He purposefully made this story as complex as he could.

The other reason is probably to have Kurapika waste his life span protecting Wobble this arc so Leorio is motivated to go to the Dark Continent to find Nitro Rice. If they just went straight there, Leorio and Kurapika would have no personal stakes.

The final reason is that the DC is about the savagery of nature, while this arc is about the savagery of civilization.

Morena will be interesting. Most of HxH's villains are petty thieves and murderers (including Tserried but I suspect he's a protagonist), whereas Morena claims to be anti-world on principle. She's pretty different for a HxH character.

Oito and Wobble's assassination ? Can Kurapika be forced into a situation where a deal like that is a possibility ?

I just started reading the manga. It's not bad, but why are there hardly any fights?

Many "fights" in HxH are anti-climatic and serve the story and themes more than to please the readers with a generic battle. If you want to read something with lots of direct fighting, HxH isn't for you.

It's different for sure, but it does look like the author is trying way too hard to come off as pretentious by over-explaining even the smallest bits during fight scenes/actions

There's a ton of fights but it's not really the main focus of the manga like most shounen, fights simply complement the story.

One of the things I love most about Hunter x Hunter right now is that Togashi’s position in WSJ is unassailable. He can take these lengthy hiatuses because he made a good contract . Then you have the people who have often lambasted him for returning to WSJ just long enough to pen enough new chapters for a new volume, before going on hiatus again. Imagine trying to read a work of HxH’s complexity at this pace, holding all that info in your head for a year at a time, before picking up right where you left off a year down the line?

Not a chance. You'll probably say Franklin can shoot in all directions, which he physically can't anyway as there will always be a blind spot and Tserriednich will know about it from his foresight, but to even think about doing that he has to know about Tserriednich's ability in the first place, and has no way of finding out before getting killed. Same for Feitan, it's virtually impossible to escape Pain Paker but he'll never get a chance to activate it, he'll just get one shot before that, his only chance is Tserriednich toying with him and keeping him alive until he activates it, but even then, he'll see it 10 seconds prior and all he has to do is kill him before that.

What would help figure it out is if we knew Kurapika was aware of Chrollo getting his nen back (it doesn't seem likely that his chain would warn him if someone attempted to exorcise the dagger in their heart or else he probably would've made it kill him even if it meant killing himself, probably), assuming his position as boss again and fighting against Hisoka.

Read the manga, we were explicitly told that Tser's current goal is to go into zetsu as fast as possible. You really think that Feitan would be faster than that? When we see him next time, he will master it and toy with Theta's friend, showcasing to us that he is basically always seeing the future.

You do realize that while Tserriednich's ability is great he's still a normal guy with a very basic understanding and ability to use the other nen fundamentals save Zetsu which is still in the basic-to-intermediate stages of training right?

Tser is a threat to normal people sure but if he meets a guy who has his ten/ren active stuff like stabbing or shooting is going to be less effective if not completely useless depending on the person. Likewise even with his ability, which I reasonably assume is just futuresight + forced illusion on target(s) there are other abilities and Hatsu that just beat him. Even then, he has to enter zetsu to activate it and we've seen insane reaction speeds from nen users, so just attacking him before he even gets a chance to look into the future is a very plausible option.

It's bad to assume he can just beat anyone, especially hardened and seasoned killers with far more understanding of nen battles and fighting in general than a pampered rich boy whose used to killing dumb broads.

It would be trickier for him just now but he's growing at an unbelievable pace so every day he's stronger. The speed blitz scenario when you just attack him before he activates his ability is a convenient and unrealistic one and it would never work basically. First of all, if he's always using the ability, it will be activated before the fight even begins, your scenario works only if the two opponents suddenly find themselves one in front of the other ready to fight. That's never the case, something has to happen before that for his opponent to be on guard and ready to strike, and by that time the ability will be already in place. Plus we've seen with Camilla that nen users hesitate when seeing someone activate zetsu since it can mean they're doing it to lure you in an counter attack, so it's unlikely for anyone to attack the exact moment he goes into Zetsu, there's no reason to unless you already know about his power

Beast didn't stop Theta from blowing his brains out, being specialist type it could actually have very little combat application. The future sight has all sorts of weakness

Also he has to frequently and visibly activate his ability by going into zetsu every 10 seconds, and he can't really control the hypnosis effect, meaning after using it on someone moderately or more skilled in nen a couple times they'll start putting things together. Tse would have to hope he can end every fight in the first couple uses and being a not particularly strong guy that isn't an easy feat against real users.

If he's a major character it's pretty likely he won't have plainly broken powers in the first place, his storytelling would revolve around using his intellect and intrigue plus the tiny windows of precognition to alter the course of events. The precognition and how well explained it is in particular makes me think it's pretty likely he'll be a major character going forward, since it lets Togashi play around with the storytelling via alternate routes and such to tell more of what is going on, and Tse's the kind of character that can do all the advanced nen strategy/general intrigue talk that Togashi wants.

Also in case you were No I don't think Ben's actually small fry but with Togashi's storytelling it's constantly implied he's less important. Ben's written like a rival character while Tse's either the protagonist or the antagonist. His introductory call to Tse was pretty humiliating and weak composure in japanese fiction tends to indicate a person of lower significance. Maybe it's setup for him to go on an Uvogin-tier rampage when people think he's no longer a problem but so far most of the story telling has been negative toward him as a serious threat.

My Franklin example was admitted to be a dumb scenario to highlight the absurdity of your own scenarios.

The point would be that by the time tser realizes he should look into the future he could be already be in a fatal position. And his abilities are still rough despite his talents. There's no guarantee an opponent will not have a simple ten or Ren active to negate tser's offensive. This is a setting dominated by match ups and individual experience. Tser is just now starting his combat training and unlike Benjamin I don't think he has too much prior to this although he most likely has some experience fighting.

Much like Zhang's guardian spirit he'd be a terror if he survives this boat but I think he's pretty much going to die before he can realize his full potential with nen.
