3-gatsu no lion

Why is this anime so underrated? I've watched 2 seasons in just 2 days and it was simply amazing. It actually restored my faith in anime in general.

because it isnt entirely clear which of the girl he bangs

Josei is always good.

I dropped the anime in the first couple of episodes 2 times because of the abrupt changes in tone.
Then it starts to go on tangents:
It starts off with talking about rei overcoming his inferiority complex through shogi but the height of the series is about hina overcoming her bullying crisis.

>underrated
It's an absolute snoozefest with an unlikable cunt for a MC, yet people praise it everywhere. If anything, it's overrated.

I thought that it was a seinen

It's not underrated dumbass. Underwatched maybe.

Left looks like the "you can't learn Japanese" girl.

>an unlikable cunt for a MC
He is far from being unlikable. He just has severe case of depression at the beginning of the series. And it actually shown wonderfully. Because despite having a depression he still forces himself to live his daily life and go to school. Also it is extremely pleasing to watch how he slowly changes and opens his heart to other people.

Don't forget that this sold even less than Vinland Saga, it only got 2 seasons because NHK gonna NHK.

It's not underrated it's literally in the top 5 most popular SoL anime in MA you faggot.

I like Rei. Even though he's a gentle, herbivorous guy, he still has an inner strength and can stand up for himself and others. Beta MC done right.
But that might turn off some people who assume he is a generic weakling MC and don't give him a chance to prove himself.

>It starts off with talking about rei overcoming his inferiority complex through shogi but the height of the series is about hina overcoming her bullying crisis
Well yeah, because this series actually resolves things it goes on to explore other topics. The bullying thing isn't til the 2nd season after which the former part has already been dealt with primarily in the first.

>the top 5 most popular SoL anime in MA
I don't live in Massachusetts.

>I have so much money I don't know what to do
>I have an innumerable amount of friends
>I have the job of my dreams
>I have all my health
>I got the respect of my colleagues
>the hottest chick of the country is taking care of me
>I'm a pussy magnet
>WAAA POOR ME
Yeah, you know what, I don't like him and period.

Yet it barely gets mentioned

He's a total alpha though, and that's why people hate him.

Not a beta at all. He arises above a rotten childhood. His personality is just, as you stated, gentle. But his approach to live is that of a very strong person.

how do you know about hina bullying if you dropped it after 2 episodes? thats season 2

I don't like periods either but none of that list describes the MC of this, rather it's mostly opposites, did you watch the same show?

You just envy him because he has an apartment with great view, money to sustain himself and cute middle schooler head over heels for him

I dropped the show twice before giving it a third try

It does feature best-girl

Did you like it in the end?

I can't tell whether you're fishing for (You)s or you just hate him to the point that you speedwatch the entire show.

Those too.

>I have an innumerable amount of friends
I counted four, but it might have been five. Sure, more than the average 4channel-loser, but not extreme. Unless you count every colleague of his, which you shouldn’t – not in Japan.
>I have the job of my dreams
Watch the show. He only started it because he didn’t want to be an orphan and is too deep in to stop now. I don’t think he ever thinks of other options. Connects to the next point.
>I have all my health
Depression – or rather, dysthymia – is a serious illness, user. It mostly means that no matter how good everything else is, he can’t feel happy about it. So he doesn’t think about being happy in his job, either.
>the hottest chick of the country is taking care of me
You clearly haven’t looked at his sister.
>I'm a pussy magnet
Also, we must be careful not to equate attention with sexual attraction. It’s not a miracle at the numbers he’s working with.

I have been successfully baited.

I dropped it again at the beginning of the field fire arc because I stopped caring about the series at that point.
It has a lot of interesting characters but it lacks a certain flow that makes it easy to watch. It was on the main story then it had a couple of episodes for the cat guy, then it went back to the main story.

You should.
He really likes shogi.
His depression is retarded which is the reason he's shit.
Akari > Shit > Kyouku
I give you the last one but even then he could get any girl if he wanted.

To be fair people in Japan just don’t have that many friends, Rei is reasonably well-off in the friend department

I guess we’ll have to disagree on the first one or two.
But depressive disorders are… retarded, that’s just how it is with them. Nothing about it makes sense, neither for the patient nor anybody else. I don’t see a reason to dislike someone for an illness, it’s not like he chose to catch it.
Which is really the most important thing, that he could do all those amazing things you dislike him for… but he can’t because of the sickness. He can’t want any girl just like that. At least at the relevant intervals in the show.

I probably shouldn’t call out hyperboles as if they were the literal opinion of people, true.

I see your point but personally I was ok with series switching between main plot and side stories simply because even the side stories were great. I like how show introduces characters like Gotou who looks like an unlikable cunt when plot follows Rei's POV but then with just one episode it shows that no, he is still a normal human with his bad and good sides.

It’s great.
Cute girls, cute cats, cute old men, cute boys.
Masterful visual metaphores during the inner monologues.
Real feels and good food too.
I love the manga and the anime is even better.

Digigoat made an epic vid on it

3-Gatsu is (and has always been) serialized in the same magazine as Berserk.

> Berserk
Yeah, I realized that when I saw this picture

While I liked HachiKuro because it wasn't a generic romantic drama with obvious story development (like Hagu saying fuck you to both Takemoto and Morita while choosing art), in the end it was "only" a romantic drama since everything revolved around the relationships.

I don't give a shit about shougi, but if you are familiar with some kind of high-level solo competition then you can definitely appreciate it since they are all about the mental battle. What's impressive about 3-Gatsu is how it depicts the matches and players' minds while also doing the slice-of-life parts for contrasts with great likeable characters and drama with unexpected turns; it's like a mix of the best elements from FKMT series, Hajime no Ippo and HachiKuro, all together as one manga.

Pic is highly related to my experience of it since Sugita is one of my personal heroes and he hyped the manga for years on his radio while having Umino Chika as a guest for six times over the years. While Shaft's attempt at animating Smith's morning routines was kind of pathetic, I loved that Sugita had a chance for a long monologue scene, reminding me of the intro of Haruhi that originally made me become his fan.
