The problem is that it's weird in Japan. From discussions I've seen on the Japanese internet, a woman who dates someone that much younger than her, even if they're both adults, is unusual and would be seen by many as a nympho. And the fact that Ran is known to have lived with Conan like a big sister when he was a child would lead to rumors that she's some kind of pervert who preyed on him as a kid. So even if Conan waited until he graduated high school to date Ran, it wouldn't be the same kind of relationship as if it were Shinichi dating Ran, and I bet Shinichi is aware of that and that might be part of why he's so desperate to find a cure.

It's believable as a nightmare Conan would have. But it also supports the idea, as much as a non-canon OVA can, that he probably wouldn't keep her waiting that long in the dark, and he'd sooner reveal his identity rather than let someone else have Ran. Despite his self-denying words when he was at his lowest point about letting Ran go for her own good, I think he's too self-centered to actually do that. He's been desperate to tie her to him no matter what, even though it only puts her in more danger. It's kind of a contradiction in his character but it makes him more human that way.

It is a mistranslation. The original Japanese title is 迷える心 "A Wavering Heart" or "Hesitant Heart".
I think that erroneous title came from the old scanlations that someone retranslated from a Chinese scan; those were full of mistakes.

I should add, the Viz title for that chapter is "A Hesitant Heart" and the wiki should be changed to that. Viz's translation is generally more accurate than the scanlations (name changes, bowdlerizations, and abridgments aside).
"Mayoeru" has different meanings based on context, but it means something like lost, wandering, perplexed, vacillating. The kanji alone can mean "infatuated/crazy about" in certain contexts but not when used like this.
I think I translated it as "A Wavering Heart" when I did my own pre-Viz translation a long time ago.

If I had to pick one it's probably karaoke box murder case. The anime adaptation was kind of rushed but still mesmerizing in how it created dramatic tension. Kappei Y. had one of his best Shinichi performances that episode. I think what I like most about it is being able to get a glimpse of how Shinichi's presence can be so arresting despite not even being physically in the scene. He was a 16yo boy politely telling this group of adults how it is and yet he can stay completely self-possessed and command them like someone much older. Maybe speaking through Kogoro gave him some practice in that. But he's really something else as a main character.
In those days there was more emotional weight to every case. I miss that about DC.

Giving him that moonlight reflection emphasized the dreamlike quality of that scene, like Conan had cast a magic spell to briefly regain his original form. The way it was done in the manga was also great and memorable, but I appreciate how the anime didn't copy it one-to-one but did something different and creative that still evoked the same emotions.
Shinichi's appearances in the early manga felt like something special every time. The way that he's nearly able to grow and shrink at will in the later manga volumes has taken some of the poignancy away from his scenes.
I haven't watched much of nuConan but the atmosphere and art style don't seem to lend themselves to depicting the gloomy emotions of that case. Even the manga has lost touch with those. But that tragic, melancholy undertone was part of what drew me to DC in those days.

I meant to say this before, but I've come to associate Shinichi's modern design with Kid more than Shinichi himself, it doesn't spill into the series but that shot of, I think OP 43, where he catches Ran after an explosion, I just immediately see that as Kid. I guess the smile doesn't help but it's the case with him in anything except the high school trip where we see him exist from Conan rather than just be there for a scene in an OP.

My thoughts on chapter 1040: As expected from last time, "futto" really did mean "foot" as in the kanji for "to add" (足す tasu). "bou(ru)" actually meant the English word "bow" as in bow and arrow, which is the lefthand radical (弓 yumi) in the kanji for "to subtract" (引く hiku). So it's more of these half-Japanese/half-English puns that Gosho seems to like using, as in the last case with "sister without the territory". But since BSI changed the clue this time to "Real Madrid" instead, they'll have to rewrite several panels of dialogue explaining the kanji clues to something different.

At least when Viz localizes like that, they have the benefit of hindsight and come up with their English rewrite after the case is complete. And even then they often keep the original Japanese clues if there's no good English alternative. Since BSI releases each chapter as it comes out, I think they should have stayed on the safe side and kept the clues as close to the original as possible, instead of making up their own before they knew what the full significance was.

Yea I thought when I was younger Conan hitting that tree and being knocked out so hard his mouth was open from the blast reaction was too sensitive compared to what came next. I remember him being in the hospital, a quiet scene with his coat hung, and everyone concerned and waiting for him to wake up, that was good shit. By movie 14 he's taking gunshot blows to the head like a God. I don't want to see what they would do to him to put him down for a bit in the new movies.
They would probably suffer major income loss if things deescalated from what they are now though. As good as the first movie is, it isn't the mega action blockbuster the franchise became later. He gets pretty irrational whenever Ran is involved. If he really wanted to keep her safe, then he would stay away from her, and definitely not start publicly dating her as Shinichi. But his self-centeredness is part of his character and he'd rather keep her by his side instead of risk some other guy taking her away.

This is interesting, I went back to the Blue Castle case to use the second part's image as an example of dark scenes' quality in non-remastered copies, and their reshoot shows an unobscured Haibara from this scene. The last one I noticed like this from their image versions was for the Class Reunion case, where it revealed an unfinished Omura who should have been covered by Nakamichi.
Anyway episodes with lots of dark scenes really need a remaster, so much detail is lost. In some cases it helps the atmosphere but in others its hard to make out what is actually happening. Also the more I see of these classic designs the better.
When Conan got woozy at first Ran asked him what he gave him, and the same drink later at the end was what she stopped him from drinking since he left it as a gift for Kogoro.
