Can a manga be too good to be memorable?

Titles like Evangelion and Lain live on for decades because they leave plenty of room for theorizing with their vague endings, while FMA had a clean ending leaving little room for debate about the characters motives, philosophy, lore etc.

FMAB was very good. Every episode added to the plot. The powers were well within it's mechanics and no asspulls whatsoever. Also didnt pad the episodes/chapters for merchandise.

First of all, FMA is a pretty big baby's first manga. You don't hear it as much because it ended with little additions and the fanbase, while big, wasn't fuckhuge enough to stick around for years so things move on

Yeah, but contrary to current state of things something catering to shounen demographic doesn't mean it has to be a carbon copy of other shounen works.

There's basically two ways for a manga to be remembered:
A) being exceptionally great to the point of becoming an influential classic
B) being perpetually monetised through derivative works and merchandising
Truthfully FMA is neither, it was just good. Its biggest weakness is the mediocre art (please don't be a retard, mediocre is not bad, it's MEDIOCRE), I can't stress how important this is. FMA, between the manga and the various anime adaptations, never looked like something you will instinctively remember. It didn't have that kind of visual punch.

FMA is not power fantasy. It's jorney which has clean beginning and the end. You can't really add spin-off to such story.
I like setting in FMA, and you can make interesting new story with such setting, but without Arakawa herself or atleast her approval you can't add anything to story.
