5 sets of 5 reps is usually for strength routines focusing on compound workouts with barbells.
If all you got is those, it ain't much use. I'd recommend looking up a calisthenics routine using push-ups, squats, situps planks etc. Then use those dumbells for a bit of extra weight or curls and shoulder raises. Also if you're strapped for cash the best value for your money would be a $20 pullup bar, since pullups are god-tier. Unless youre fat, cause then you may tear out a doorframe.

Anyone with advice on how to safely lose weight without hurting my knees even more. I developed some knee pain from walking too long or simply standing up for too long due to becoming overweight. It's a brief sharp pain that happens on the inner side of my knees (left side on my right knee and right side on my left knee) and it happens if I walk or stand up too long. The pain just disappears if I take a break and sit down though. It just feels I become too heavy and all that extra body weight is being forced onto my knees. My doctor suggested swimming but I was wondering if there were other exercises I could do outside the water that wouldn't fuck up my knees even further and safely lose weight at the same time since I don't think it would be a good idea to run with my knees like this until I lose enough weight to do so. From the outside, you wouldn't think anything is wrong with my knees since there is no redness, no swelling, bruises, etc. but there can be pain or soreness if I walk too long or stand up too long. It just feels like my knees are telling me I become too heavy and to do something about it.
As for why my doctor didn't order a MRI or Xrays for me, he took a look at my blood and urine results and didn't think it was necessary to order some body scans despite me telling him about my knee problems. He just told me to lose weight and try swimming but didn't say anything more than that. My blood and urine results were all normal by the way. Nothing unusual or abnormal. I just feel like my exercise options are limited due to knee issues from being overweight.
A bit of a paunch, but a lot of solid leg muscle from cycling. Got back in the gym about a year back and have put on going on 10kg getting back into shape.

It depends on how much you eat. If you eat the same as you used to then add lifting AND cardio then you'll end up burning muscle as well as fat and burning out/getting hurt. You can increase your food and sleep then do both but that is a lot of lifestyle changes at once. I recommend a 3-day lifting routine to start with, and cardio on off days. But be sure to include true rest days as well, at least 2 a week.
Track your weight every week at the same time and adjust your diet up or down to ensure 1-2 lbs loss per week. But bear in mind the first 10 lbs is water weight so don't get too excited too soon.

Anyone got a good core routine to do at home. Most of the core exercises I do at the gym involve weights/stations a lot of the time (i.e stomach crunches) but I need something for my rest days.
Planks work fine.
