Vague? they straight up have a fucking playstation and internet. Its heavily implied the tech level is equal to our modern world

>everyone treats him at an unsurpassable level of strength
Not really. Goverment and Netero were pretty chill about it. They were only worried abous casualties
>>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this lol
Heavily depends on your potential and mental state

So when do they hunt monsters and go aftet those treasures?

I'm not a hunterfag nor do I actively hate the series. I've never seen it and I don't really have an opinion of it overall, but one thing confuses me.
Why is it called hunter x hunter? Why is the main character on top of that frog? Also why do I always see that one picture of the main character as a grown man with really long hair? Is that his special power or something or is that part way farther into the series and the main character is grown or something?

Also what is the main alure of the series? Are there good villains? Really thinking about watching it but can't bring myself to actually sit down and do it without motivation. To me, the villain is the most important part of a series, so who is the main villain and what are his motivations?

The frog is the protagonist's pet.

If you like good villains then you absolutely have to watch HxH, if anything it's pretty much one of the main reasons HxH gets so much praise, If you ever watched YuYu hakusho and remember Toguro and Sensui being interesting villains then HxH is pretty much that but with much more interesting concepts surrounding those villains, at one point you might not even care about the main cast that much and just start cheering for the antagonists.

There's no main villain, there's a bunch of them, their motivations are very interesting but nothing cliche, Gon wants to find his father and Kurapika wants to avenge his clan, Leorio doesn't have any nemesis and wants to be a doctor and Killua has beef with his family of assassins and wants to stick with Gon forever, have fun.

>Why is it called hunter x hunter?
Because big part of the plot is about hunter hunting down another hunter
>Are there good villains?
HxH has my favorite villain gallery

Attached: HxHAntagonists.jpg (1824x918, 1.09M)

aw yes it all makes sense now
thanks user. I'll definitely give it a watch. Probably won't read the manga simply because of all the wall text posts I've seen and that shit gives me headaches just thinking about reading all that.

oh yeah I almost forgot to ask. Does this series have a "training arc" like naruto chuunin exams and etc? If so, when does it start, and when does it end. I detest training arcs and skip them whenever possible.

It has training inside regular arcs but it's not the main focus of the arc at all, the training methods are really interesting and give you an overview into the powersystem and the world of HxH in general.

It has multiple small training arcs, but they're not boring and dont drag like other anime. I wouldn't even cal them arcs they're secondary to whats happening in the arca nd dont take up focus.

I do not recommend skipping 'training' arcs in HxH

You seem to misunderstand while hunter x hunter has some amazing fights they are not the main focus of the series.

a hunter is the title given to a specialist thats supernaturally good at their speciality. they have outright absurd legal exemption. the main character is on a quest to become a hunter who specializes in tracking down hunters. a hunter hunter if you will.
the tall thing is when he decides he doesn't care about that anymore and throws away his career and his powers for the sake of six minutes of revenge. he does it exactly once, then stops being the main character and gets phased out of the story

so what is the main focus of the series? What is the allure? To me, the main allure of the series is the culmination of the tension that is built between scarce interactions between the antagonist and the MC which usually results in a fight. If the main allure isn't the fight, then what is?

Nen training was ok, but the first instance where the Zoldyck family guards have them wear weighted vests to get stronger was pretty weak. And Biskey having them fight a killer hairdresser for 3 days was a bit weird.

Re-watching '99 and it is still fantastic.

Attached: kil4.png (500x370, 233K)

The main focus is the promise of something worthwhile being just around the corner and the enjoyment in the pursuit of that goal. People who like the series find satisfaction in one or both of these.

Training was easily the most important part of Heaven's Arena and the main focus.
Basically each arc has some training in there aside of the first one (which, ironically is very much like Chuunin Exams) and the last finished one.

I guess I'll give it a watch then and see what I think about it firsthand.

I though Gon just one-hand pushing opponents out of the ring during the arc was pretty lazy. I can understand Killua cruising through since he'd done it before and his skills are designed around finishing fights quickly, but Gon had nothing particularly notable in terms of combat up to this point and Togashi had an opportunity to show him develop some sort of fighting skill. Seemed like a waste of time until they made it to the nen fights.

>Gon had nothing particularly notable in terms of combat
Gon was pretty strong already due his life in the wild. Plus he was training to open Testing Gate

Alright, i hope you'll enjoy it is much as i did

>Why is it called Hunter x Hunter?
Togashi, the creator of the manga, wanted to call his anime "(Something) Hunter, because he was interested in the feeling of ecstasy the moment you get what you want, i.e. hunting for collectible items, treasure, finding somebody or achieving a bigger goal in your life. He was one day watching a japanese comedy show where the gag was they kept repeating themselves, and Togashi thought this was novel so he called the show Hunter x Hunter. The "x" is silent and an ornamental stylisation, which are pretty popular in Japan. True story!

>Why is the main character on top of that frog?
Gon is a pretty adventurous, outdoorsy type kid (something that hands well to becoming a hunter), so it's probably just there to show he's good with animals and nature.

>Why do I always see that one picture of the main character as a grown man with really long hair?
That's the result of a nen covenant. Nen is the power of HxH that for the most part only the top Hunters know about and can control. Covenants can give its user huge power but with a cost, normally shortening their lifespan or depleting their store of power, sometimes permanently. I won't say any more than that because it's sort of a spoiler.

>What is the main allure of the series?
Depends on who you ask, but for me it's following four (mostly) very likeable characters on a sprawling, 100+ episode adventure through a interesting, varied world with tons of cool side-characters, stories, tests and environments.

>Are there good villains?
Yeah, a shitton. A bug that has evolved so far that it's almost completely unsquashable, a mass-murdering convict forced to play volleyball for decades, a pedo clown far stronger than the protagonist who's waiting only for him to grow up so he can receive sexual satisfaction from watching the life drain from his eyes, a brother of the second protagonist who psychologically attempts to force him into breaking off his friendships and working alone...

Attached: 1466373398655.jpg (297x223, 43K)

its trash by a fraudulent tracing glorified LN writer hack for dipshits

>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this lol
Is this a reference to Gon San because I'm pretty sure the go to fandom defense is that no one has ever been so emotionally scared as Gon in that moment and no one else was born with the super special potential to do it

Yeah, but a wild animal is pretty strong too and would be a lousy combatant in a tournament. Not to mention his opponents should start to realize that his approach is just to push them out of the ring and approach a fight with him with this in mind.

.. so yeah, a shitton of awesome and interesting villains that have different, sometimes changing morality and don't all end up in death matches with the main character.

>Who is the main villain and what are his motivations?
Like other user said, there's not really a main villain. They change throughout the arcs. The four main characters are Gon, Killua, Leorio and Kurapika. For Gon it's probably Hisoka, the pedo clown I mentioned earlier. For Killua it's his brother Illumi (and most of his family really). For Leorio it's whoever badmouths him on any given day of the week. For Kurapika it's the Phantom Troupe, a group of chaotic neutral villains that tore out the eyeballs of everyone in his village to sell on the blackmarket for high prices. For the most part, the villains and the interactions they have with the MC's are very interesting. I'd definitely recommend watching the show, and then checking out the manga! The wall of text chapters are only VERY late into the manga.

Attached: read the fucking manga.png (756x527, 190K)

>I'd definitely recommend watching the show, and then checking out the manga! The wall of text chapters are only VERY late into the manga.
Do not listen to this idiot. Read the manga first and then watch the anime (99 is strongly recommended due to how they handled the characters on an equal playing field while 2011 downplayed a lot of development for anyone that wasn't Gon or Killua).

>implied
>on any other occassion Togashi uses a page from a literal book
So it's only explained when it's convenient?
Hack writing 101
You can't refute this, go post that wall of text page.

The allure is the subversion. Take that child on the cover hes portrayed initially as the typical happy go lucky shonen protagonist without parents that loves fighting

But then the story slowly twists his mind and character until he becomes this complex multilayered anti hero. People have literally written college thesis papers over his character.

Togashi writing is quite literally unsurpassed in manga and anime, probably the entirety of Japanese literaturic history

>Gon
>complex
Pick 1

>Because big part of the plot is about hunter hunting down another hunter
You have to go back you ignorant newfag

Friendly reminder, no chapter this week

Gon hunting down his father
retard

>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this lol
I kind of figured you needed Gon's level of potential and dedication to create a condition this stringent

That's not the reason why it's called hunter x hunter you dumb faggot, it's just your retarded headcanon, Togashi explained why and it has nothing to do with the plot, see

It’s built more on story and characters and not fights. But shit still happens

Expectations subverted. HxH is a deconstruction of the premise genre.

But...but...it's a deconstruction!

>those villain descriptions
ngl user, none of those seem interesting to me at all. They seem like the kind of quirky minor antagonists you'd find in jjba.
The kinds of antagonists that interest me are ones that can be taken seriously, and ones who take themselves seriously. Realistic ones that aren't portrayed or designed in a cartoonish manner.

currently at the ant arc (chapter 242) and I have to say this became less interesting. because in this one it goes full shonen with world ending threat which I do not give a fuck about. What I liked about the manga until that point was shadowy undeground elitist world the characters progressed into. Ultra selective exam to become a super world class forest ranger, auction only billionaires can afford with the mafia holding its own sales of super rare illegal mythical stuff, antiques hunting in small markets, seeing the two best hitmen in the world go after the most dangerous thief in the world all while the last survivor of a murdered clan is looking for revenge.
All these these events and multiple factors unwind with a fascinating creditbility
Togashi managed to make all these characters motives and simultaneous actions interact and clash with the outcome carrying lasting consequences on the plot.
Now it's just fucking cell saga mixed with Carpenter's The Thing and the bad guys wants to end humanity because he is poopoo evil and Gon spams the same janken bullshit in a jungle

Not that user but I don't think anyone can argue that Meruem wasn't a great character.

seems like an interesting character.

Same here, when Cell junior came in, it was time to drop it.

Meruem doesn't want to end humanity, he wants to end strife and bring about a new golden age.
If course you'll never get far enough to learn this.

>also there are dragon balls in the form of a little girl that grants wishes

>Its heavily implied the tech level is equal to our modern world
What speed were you watching 2011 in because these niggers are still flying in hot air balloons and zeppelins.
He's honestly a grossly overrated character whose only had interesting chemistry with 3 characters tops and his lack agency outside gungi shit made him a bore to watch.

>I have no interest in this series
>Tell me all about this series
Kill yourself

>little girl
Actually is boy

I didn't like him. His whole thing is he's hyper powerful. He comes out the womb, eats a bunch of children and we're supposed to feel sorry for him because he didn't lean morality.
He's a bug. A pest. Vermin. He didn't deserve life.

Just because an insect doesn't feel empathy is no reason for you to discard yours.

That's not even what user said you illiterate faggot.

>make a selection process that kills 99% of humans
>the ones that pass are turned into furries
>this is not ending humanity somehow
ok

>talking shit when you haven't read the manga yet
>thinking you know better than the people who have read it
I will never understand how people like you function in day to day life.

I never said I had no interest in the series. I said I had no opinion of the series. Eat a bullet breakfast, braindead faggot.

They have smartphones, streaming and shit, and in CA Killua mentions jets as well. The zeppelins are a stylistic choice but Togashi himself in the last interview with Kishimoto admitted that he throws in whatever technology he wants without caring too much about continuity, that's why we went from shitty phones and Ps1 to modern day technology even tho in universe there's only a 2-3 years gap between beginning of the story and current day on the black whale, while irl its been 20 years

The fact that they show laptops and internet in the very first volume means there are nukes.
Everyone can do what Gon did, but not everyone has the same potential for Gon and not everyone is retarded enough to waste all their strength for a brief moment of powerup.

this is not proving me wrong

Read the manga, nigger.

The manga and Meruem's own words during his conversation with Netero are what disprove you. But you're a stupid cunt who will never get that far so you'll never know.

nah

the manga is a deconstruction on weekly shonen jump. it really subverts your expectation that there will be weekly releases.

gon is one in a million. his potential is even rarer. the condition he was in at that moment was a one time unique thing that no one else would go through so no its not just something anyone can do.

This, honestly

>currently at the ant arc (chapter 242) and I have to say this became less interesting. because in this one it goes full shonen with world ending threat which

This trope subverted here

you act lik reading a manga is some hard intellectual task. Im currently at chapter 244 and Im on break until the 2nd of september. Pretty sure Illb be done by then
it's a jap comic not a german phenomenology treatise.
Also calm down

Some manga tanscends their medium and veer into classic literary territory thanks to their rich themes and flawless execution. HxH is one of the few rare manga that does this.

There isn't much a bunch of normal people can do against a kid who can casually exert enough force to move doors that weigh a ton each.

>oh shit the world is at stake
it never was
Meruem was a lvl B threat at best

To me what never made sense is that something like Nen could possibly be kept secret from the general public/several government officials/rich people/criminals even though thousands of disorganized people from many countries, factions and ideologies know about it.
Something that big and important just couldn't be kept secret for long, especially in a world with TV and the internet. Especially since lots of Nen users publicy use their abilities on live TV in the Heaven's Arena. That aspect of the worldbuilding just never made any sense to me.

East Gorteau's nuclear program is literally mentioned at the start of the invasion. Some 80 chapters before the nuke.

>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this
Zazan (Scorpion Chimera Ant) mutilated herself for a power up, so a weaker version of it was already used.

Attached: 0230-002 East Gorteau.jpg (1066x1600, 299K)

you guys are actually fucking dumb as fuck, one for not realizing that the world was never at stake at the meruem arc, two because you're whinning about the writing when you all fell for it, it is not his fault that Togashi wrote the arc so well you guys are actually seeing Meruem through Gon's eyes, there is a reason why they just gathered about 10 hunters to take care of the situation, it wasn't that much of a problem, there was other shit to be dealt with in the other corners of the world.
In the end Meruem was just a kid with dellusions of greatness.

Attached: 1536788595528.png (720x720, 802K)

This.

>what is 9/11

>He thinks 9/11 was an inside job
So you're one of those people, huh?

Chimera Ant arc unironically too smart for Yea Forums

Attached: You Have No Idea.jpg (726x320, 208K)

>he thinks nen exists
So you're one of those people, huh?

What's even dumber is that some Mafia Bosses don't even know that their subordinates are Nen users or that Nen exists..

People in HxH-verse pretty well aware about concept of supermans. They live in a world with dragons, magical beasts and other shit after all, and not much suprised when some dude can handle bullet in the head. They just don't know to what extent these superhumans function in details

Attached: 15213.jpg (671x433, 149K)

>Especially since lots of Nen users publicy use their abilities on live TV in the Heaven's Arena.
It was CC tv. We saw that the news outside the tower had no idea what happened. Plus floor master matches are exclusive to attend.

This post here summed it up nicely.

what's with the spike in HxH threads in the last few weeks? HxH thread used to be far and between, now there's a new one popping up every hour

>lol just kidding we have nukes and nothing was at stake
The nuke itself didn't even kill him, it was the radiation poisoning, and that was after going head to head with one of the strongest Hunters in the world. The only reason it ultimately did kill him was because he a) was completely caught off guard by the bomb, b) didn't know what radiation poisoning even was and c) was worn down by the fight with Netero so he wasn't in top condition. If they had flubbed the bomb and Meruem ultimately avoided dying from it he definitely could have gone on to be a major threat to HxH world.

>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this lol
Except it's not as simple or trivial as you're making it out to be. Gon's resolve was strong and he'd been harboring that grudge and considering the plan of action he ultimately took for a long period of time before that. If he wasn't focusing on throwing it all away soon after Kite died he definitely was after they recovered Kite's body. It's not the kind of thing you can just do in the spur of the moment, it's like any developing any other nen ability where you need to focus and resolve yourself over a long period of time. Also most people wouldn't be willing to throw their life away for their goal, only dumb children like Gon or people who don't think they have anything left to live for in general like Kurapika.

Maybe you should watch the fucking show then you stupid fuck.

>>make world with extremely vague technology level
no but anyway why does this matter? (it doesnt)
>>Hunters are always portrayed as the end all be all in fights
yea
>>suddenly super strong nen user appears
>>oh shit the world is at stake
>>everyone treats him at an unsurpassable level of strength
>>lol just kidding we have nukes and nothing was at stake
>>also you can just kill yourself in exchange for having a basically unbeatable level of power but no one ever thought to do this lol
using a nuke is a last resort

Fuck off. You're the stupid nigger comflating disinterest towards Mereum's storyarc with a lack of understanding his perspective in this arc.

Attached: 1565929220175.png (442x430, 12K)

If at first you succeed just be sure to bait again, and again, and again, and again.

Attached: 1565405540134.jpg (650x758, 91K)

>Zazan (Scorpion Chimera Ant) mutilated herself for a power up, so a weaker version of it was already used.
That was her actual body, she made herself more feminine and pretty because of her vanity but crocodile was what she actually looks like.

I think it's the antecipation for the manga's return? For Togashi to return this year with his usual ten chapters it has to be mid-october and the announcement is usually couple of weeks before, maybe late september.

Yeah, it's too early for anticipating it, but there wasn't any chapters this year, we got 20 last year and Togashi last comment was about the storyboards of the next 10 being already done.

Attached: furykov.jpg (200x316, 26K)

>To me what never made sense is that something like Nen could possibly be kept secret from the general public/several government officials/rich people/criminals
It is not, it is simply under the radar.
>Something that big and important just couldn't be kept secret for long
Speadreader. Important? How? Technology is repeatedly showed as by far superior to Nen. Read the last ark.
>Especially since lots of Nen users publicy use their abilities on live TV in the Heaven's Arena.
It is just recognized as a semi-magic and mystical power. Here some Shaolin Kung Fu:
youtube.com/watch?v=7qHL2PSpecI
Trowing needles through glass, overcome the natural body limits... and that was on National Fucking Geographic. Why don't we see people do this in our daily life?

Except that she looked like a sexy scorpion lady the first time we saw her, before she learned Nen. And emotionally, she wanted to take revenge on the Spiders for having ruined her dream of becoming Queen, so her going mini-Gon-san makes perfect sense.

Her body distorting to fit her new power, just like Gon's did is a much better explanation.

And some of the villains are also antagonists, which means they will appear several times in numerous arcs.

>Trowing needles through glass, overcome the natural body limits... and that was on National Fucking Geographic.
No it doesn't, obviously if they can do it naturally then it's well within the capabilities of the human body. In the very video you posted they show that all these so called "superhuman" feats are really just gradually training the body's components to take more and more stress. Only in China do you get dudes literally hanging themselves to make their necks stronger.

>everyone treats him at an unsurpassable level of strength
>lol just kidding we have nukes and nothing was at stake
Chapter 79 released in 2000, 11 years before nuking the King. Kill yourself speadreader nigger.

saying tranny is more than enough

Not him, but your second argument about gravity of restrictions is pretty much moot when Hisoka was able to ask his nen to resurrect him when needed, and like Camillia can OHKO + revive with no major drawbacks.

>No it doesn't, obviously if they can do it naturally then it's well within the capabilities of the human body.
And that's exactly why Nen is not more widespread in the world of HxH.

O

Hisoka was able to make his Nen RCP him. This does not resurrect him. Machi has to use her healing power on him to wake him up.

Cummy's cat most definitely can't just OHKO because by concept Nen can't ever be omnipotent. It is just a construct made with her postmortem aura that chases a target, absorbs its aura and then uses it to heal Cummy. Not that different from a Curse. And as a construct, it could be exorcised, destroyed with brute strength, or just outrun.

> one day Uvo wants to punch as hard as a nuke
What the fuck does that have to do with OP's point? He's not arguing that WMDs didn't exist, and Uvo was completely invalidated as a threat the moment Kurapika got to his ass?

O MY RUBBER NEN isn't that powerful at all, it's literally just Hisoka's bungee gum contracting his heart at regular intervals, something extremely simple for him to do normally and the only thing making it remarkable was that he was technically dead at the time. Nen after death is a different beast to Gon-san.

I will admit Camilla's ability is bullshit in that I don't understand how you could possibly train an ability that requires you fucking dying but specialists have always been fucking weird in general.

I agree that he should die and he did but Meruem was nevertheless an interesting character and had some sympathy.

Can you believe I get paid for it?

Oops time for my nap.

MY

The anime pacing isnt as good as the mangas in regards to chimera arc but its undoubtedly the high point of HxH. Saying this as someone who agrees with the rest of your post.

SEVEN

RUBBER

DICK

I'm with the other guy. Meruem got zero sympathy from me and probably even less after he started hypocritically deciding that he was better than humanity and deserved to rule over them to "protect" them, despite him and his ants doing things just as bad as the worst of humanity has to offer. Also he's a filthy fucking race-mixer that emotionally manipulates and tricks an abused blind girl who has nothing in her life but Gungi into loving him.

DILDOES

Not that user but I have no problem with that.

AFTER

If you'd only read the manga you wouldn't make assertions like "Meruem wants to exterminate mankind", but you can't read so you'll never know any better.
It's honestly pretty sad.

>emotionally manipulates
everytime he tries this its to win at gungi and it backfires because komugi is such an autist.

He's a simpleton

I

NUT

What will happen after 2nd September?

PULL THE DILDOES OUT OF MY ASS TO REVIVE ME

Neither do I but his statement was just false and Togashi himself admitted he doesn't give too much of a shit about technology consistency and such, so there's no point in trying to argue the opposite. I'd rather have him focus on other aspects of the story than waste time and effort making sure that every piece of technology he's showing adheres perfectly with the in universe time-line and is consistent with what has been shown 300 chapters back.

>But then the story slowly twists his mind and character until he becomes this complex multilayered anti hero.
He's a fucking kid through and through

everything in that video equates to party tricks you just need to brace yourself for the pain of hitting something hard.

How will Hunterbabbies ever recover?

>Why is it called hunter x hunter?
no real reason other than the protagonists being "hunters"
>Why is the main character on top of that frog?
just an illustration. the frog does not feature in the actual story
>Also why do I always see that one picture of the main character as a grown man with really long hair?
He transforms into an adult form temporarily to power up.
>Also what is the main alure of the series?
Pretending to be smart after watching it. Otherwise, it's just a shonen.
>Are there good villains?
Not really. A killer clown and a Cell rip-off are the most memorable. The rest not so much.
>so who is the main villain and what are his motivations
There is no main villain. Just various characters the protagonists happen to conflict with in every story arc.
On that note there is no main character or main story, either. Just different arcs following different character with no real connection or structure.
Don't expect a conclusion to it, ever, either. The author only releases 10 or so chapters per year, none of them moving the story towards an ending, and only setting up more stuff that will never be resolved.

>he is serious about post mortem CPR
Proof that hunterlets don't know how the world works

>Hisoka was able to make his Nen RCP him. This does not resurrect him. Machi has to use her healing power on him to wake him up.
Machi didn't have the chance to touch him before he resuscitate himself.

>Cummy's cat most definitely can't just OHKO because by concept Nen can't ever be omnipotent. It is just a construct made with her postmortem aura that chases a target, absorbs its aura and then uses it to heal Cummy. Not that different from a Curse. Its more fair to say that has a OHKO if she has to crush her opponent to juice to revive herself, now the ability being invincible is an entirely different story which can't be argued until the restrictions are laid out.

We don't even know the exact biological moment that Hisoka defined as postmortem. It is entirely feasible if he just meant X minutes after his heart stopped.

And Hisoka is healed by a person who can repair the bone and nervous system of an amputated arm in a matter of seconds. So probably even some dead Neurons could have been revived.

The only bad part of O MY RUBBER NEN is that Shalnark was always portrayed as smart and he should have beheaded Hisoka just in case.

Agreed meruem was an overpowered faggot who too full of himself looking down on everything when the only thing he did was conquering a small isolated commie island, I'm glad humanity show up to show that stupid bug who's boss.

>t.shitposting faggot that doesn't read HxH

>So probably even some dead Neurons could have been revived.
Ok but how

>

>his opponents should start to realize that his approach is just to push them out of the ring and approach a fight with him with this in mind.
>Dexfags
They were pretty aware of gon's stupid approach, they just couldn't do shit about it.

>Her body distorting to fit her new power
She literally and verbally states she was disguising herself as a sexier woman you speedreader.

>The allure is the subversion
This, hunter x hunter is published in a weekly magazine even though it's a yearly manga

Machi stitched his Neck with her healing threads. We saw that these threads stitching the skin in an arm immediately returned mobility and fixed the bone.

HxHfags are simpletons.

He's right. Had Hisoka's body been damage to the point he'd been blown apart, what he did would not have worked. This is why it was so genius to pay Machi as a back-up. Of course, there was a level of sentimentality on her part as well (Machi loves Hisoka).

Hey you saved my tvtropes image.

Guy above says human beans are still human, thus not unbeatable or immortal. But now suddenly the basic humanity that was never questioned does not matter?
Bite the pillow until Togashi thinks of an asspull 10 years from now.

Strangely enough Hisoka was able to apply Texture Suprise directly to his prosthetic bodyparts, something that was explicitly stated he was unable to do before his death, so the argument can be made that he actually got a power boost post mortem. Then again Togashi could've just forgot the restrictions of that ability.

When? I just reread 228-229 and I am not seeing anything like that.

Well that one was a vice-bos you see and it is possible he was lying/pretending not knowing nen.

Hunter xD Hunter best manga evuh bro, you must be dumb.

I know Hisoka got a power boost post-mortem, that much is obvious and a well-established facet of nen. What I'm saying is O MY RUBBER NEN isn't special in anyway from Hisoka's basic abilities, programming his nen to start contracting a bunch in a certain amount of time is something he can easily do normally, the only thing that makes it notable is that it persisted after he died.

People stitching their wounds with Nen has been a thing since Heaven's Arena. In fact, Hisoka is the first person we see doing it. And later Gon and Netero did it too.

Again, machi didn't even get to work before Hisoka's nen kick and he started reviving himself. Hell, the only reason her stayed behind in the first place was because of her sense of duty to a dead client, and she figured the very least she could do was sew his sorry ass up.

Fair enough.

>The allure is the subversion.
While it's true that togashi doesn't have a cliche approach to do things, most arcs finnish in a expected way (which does not mean it's a bad thing)
>Hunter exam
Expectation: most if not all the MCs to pass.
Result: All but killua pass
>Zoldyck family
Expectation: Scucessful rescue
Result: Successful rescue
>Heavens arena
Expectation: Gon and killua performing well, reach the highests floors and making good money
Result: They perform well, reach floor 200 and make good dough
>Yorknew
Expectation: MCs defeating the spiders and Gon and Killua getting the game
Result: Technical win over the spiders and G&K get to play the game
>Greed Island
Expectation: Beating the game and getting clues of Ging's location
Result: Gon wins the game and would have found his father if he had used a different card.

Well I was wrong that she said it. However, it's still not likely that her transformation was a nen ability seeing as she changes from one animal to another whereas Gon-san was still human in both states. And other people who use nen to bulk up still retain their regular body they just get bigger muscles. It's more likely that this is just a quirk of her chimera ant nature instead of a mini-nen powerup.

How many people do even know a nen user, let alone see a nen user in action? (except tv/internet of course)

Nope
And I find it funny how you just ignore the entire point once you cannot argue anymore. I will accept your defeat now.

True, he actually wants to rule as supreme king while harvesting humans like cattle with the exeption of the ones he finds cool.

Awesome, you have fallen into my trap. Now with his dingy arm and leg hisoka has no blood circulation nor feeling in said arm or leg.

He is absolutely wrong about the existence of nukes not being obvious. A nuclear program is literally mentioned during the arc in chapter 230. The nuke is used around chapter 300.

Year 2000
2000 mafia members got killed during Uvogin's requiem

Just like peasants of the NGL.

What point? Hisoka is the one giving command to his aura. The "after I die, massage my heart and lungs" part of his Nen command would depend on his definition of dead. What does the concept of humanity have to do with that?
Live and dead, corpse or doll are relative concepts, not absolute.

The interesting part of HxH is how obsessed the author is with rules, systems, and how characters find loopholes and exploits and strategies within those systems and rules.
For example, in the first arc that i would qualify as "competent", one of the first things that happens is a character handing newbies a list of all the spell-cards in the game they are playing. The reader gets to read the descriptions and effects of all the cards, and from there has everything they need to surmise possible strategies from combining cards, using cards in succession, and generally do strategy stuff.
The exposition also gets less heavy-handed and more elegant in subsequent arcs, but the structure is generally the same. Set up a set of characters, powers, abilities, systems and rules, then simulate towards the outcome. With one or two exceptions, any surprise is a logical outcome of the initial configuration.
Having only read the manga, the two first arcs are NOT good, and are full of contradictions and retcons, and suffer from seemingly being written one or two weeks at a time, at most.

What? His arm and leg are rubber nen prosthesis now.

Can Aliens/Deep Ones/Homunculus/Apes use nen?

You keep falling deeper and deeper. Didn't the series cover how overextended use of nen dulls the power and perception? Think about it user, think very hard. I realize this might come as a shock to you. Hisoka now needs to control muscle movement in a way to synergize with his good limbs, without any feeling whatsoever. Yet for some reason that does not make him any weaker kor less perceptive. This is your loss user. You can't dig yourself out of it.

But he still uses muscles perfectly in sync without drawbacks. Hunterkeks completely defeated.

Why the hiatus? Seems like it stopped in the middle of something that's already preplanned

Gon wanted the power he could have reached if he trained his whole life so his body grew up. Zazan probably just wanted a tougher body so she muscles up and the trigger was her face being scared, so she probably manifested extra uglyness. Maybe she even sacrificed her beauty too as part of the deal. Nen is a psychic power so what she wants will show in her appearance. That is all.

Why not? Items can.

Sweet nigths my dear emperor.

The only people Hisoka fought afterwards were ambushed and killed in one hit. And if it went without major consequences it is probably because of Hisoka's insane skill and Hisoka's flexibility.

If we ever go back to Gon I hope he has evolved what he wants in life, don't give a shit about his dad desu

>That is all.
There are literal shapeshifting animals in HxH. The chimera ants are also magical in nature themselves with the whole assimilation diet. You can argue that Zazan used nen to transform, but given that her ability or characteristic seemed to revolve around controlling and altering the appearances of people she stung. It's more likely to me that she merely imposed on others the same state as her own body. In that she could always freely transform, in her case between crocodile and supermodel bodies.

You care about Gon more than about Ging? That's weird. Ging and Pariston arguably the most interesting charcters right now

Attached: 15123.jpg (1537x1153, 1.07M)

Her Love Stinger was called a manipulation hatsu. So if she used that to transform herself, that is just more evidence of it being a Nen Pact.

Plus, we have seen 3 fights motivated by revenge in the manga:
Kurapika vs Uvo
Zazan vs Feitan
Gon vs Neferpitou

Gon and Kurapika were powered up by Nen Pacts in their fights. Makes sense if Zazan also used one, as these are thematically tied with rage and revenge. Putting your wellbeing on the line for victory.

the narration in the ant arc was awful, ruined the arc.

Is there a point to the clear Jojo references?

I get what you means and like you I'm glad that Meruem, the RG and the ants got defeated and killed, but somewhere Meruem did a change a little bit and for that he had my sympathy. He still had to go though, no doubt about it.

He's going to deconstruct JoJo like he did with dbz

Togashi is using JoJo references, and King Crimson in particular, to symbolize Fate. However, Fate in this setting does not mean just a force calling Stand users to fight, but the social structures that trap all these characters. The Princes being bound to assassinate eachother, the bodyguards bound to protect the Princes, the Untouchables bound to be poor, etc.

To overcome Tserriednich, characters will have to find a way to trap him in a Fate he does not want while escaping Fate themselves. Same with surviving the SW.

>So if she used that to transform herself, that is just more evidence of it being a Nen Pact.
No, I'm saying she can transform and used that as a base for her ability. No different to how youp can shapeshift by default, but then also gained the ability to use nen alongside his shapeshifting for his attacks.

Going along both the chimera ants having gained human mannerisms, as well as Zazan's apparent narcissism. It's very much the case that I think likely that she inherited shapeshifting from the Queens consumption of similar creatures and uses it to look pretty in a human way.

While she is stronger when transformed, this is more reflective of her true power and any boost is minor compared to the actual grudge based powers we've seen.

He died alone, in that cold place.
Sad, broken and alone. That’s how Pouf died.

I think he can use Spiritual Message toread his strategy and came up with a tactic against him even faster than Meruem.
I don't think he was fast enough though.

It is known

Pouf is physically the weakest but is the trickier to kill because he can split.

>transforming scorpions / lizards exist (only transforming creatures we know are monkey-like and humanoid-fox-like)
>queen ate one of these unknown creatures on top of a human to make Zazan, since she clearly has a human's personality
>she uses her natural ability to transform as a basis of a hatsu... to transform other creatures?
>she rips off her stinger to transform because ???

You have to go through like four loops of headcanon for your idea to make sense, instead of just accepting that someone else besides Gon and Kurapika sacrificed something for a power up, but whatever you want user.

I wonder what Youpi was like in his former life.
Hell he may not even existed before the queen decided to give birth.

Retard. 99 anime is far superior to the manga and only goes to shit in the game arc.

*was

>shapeshifting creatures exist
>the queen is stated to have eaten magical creatures
>some chimera ants exhibit the ability to shapeshift
>zazan is a chimera ant
And the number of steps don't matter as I'm looking for the more accurate explanation not the simplest although those don't have to be mutually exclusive. Zazan undoubtedly got some level of boost from her anger as we know mentality affects aura, but saying she got a powerup from a specific contract, or that she had to sacrifice her beauty to get such a powerup are more insubstantial than what I'm saying funny enough.

How else do you explain the owl that turns into a more gorilla-like creature in the chapters from the same volume? How do you explain Youpi who is stated to be a non human hybrid and instead is just magical beast in composition?

Youpi & Phinks

I think what he means is "if" he got blown up so bad he couldn't resuscitate himself without dying imidiately. If she worked on him then and he used his ability afterwards it would have been a good choice on his part to pay her in advance.
But Machi does have a soft spot for Hisoka too. It was implied by Shalnark she's a softie in general and we saw her being a bit too friendly with Hisoka before, where she's just not aware that other Spiders would not treat him the same way she does. She thinks she's putting on a mask of indifference but her care, friendly approach and attention give her away. What other Spider except Machi would not have considered Hisoka an enemy after that fight? She's the only dumbass who thinks they're still on buddy terms after he just fought Chrollo to death and stands there like airhead socializing with him in a friendly caring tone while he's ready to straight out kill someone.

>shapeshifting creatures exist
None that look like Zazan. Meanwhile there was a monkey able to turn into a human in the Hunter Exam area that could easily be part of Youpi
I would argue they even look a bit alike. And at least Youpi is stated to be part Magical Beast in the anime so there is a basis for it.
>the queen is stated to have eaten magical creatures
Only in the anime, but sure it is likely.
>some chimera ants exhibit the ability to shapeshift
Owl and Youpi shapeshift at will. Zazan clearly doesn't, or she would have used it to avoid Feitan's strikes. Something as simple as stretching her neck or extending her limbs could have saved her face.
>zazan is a chimera ant
How is that related to her ripping off her stinger to transform?

>saying she got a powerup from a specific contract, or that she had to sacrifice her beauty to get such a powerup are more insubstantial than what I'm saying funny enough.
Not at all:
My original argument was that she mutilated her tail for a power up. You are yet to explain this.
Her character can be summed up as arrogant about her beauty and power, with a dream to become Queen. The Spiders destroyed her dream, she fully sacrifices what was left of it with her Stinger, and maybe added the Beauty into the contract for Power.
Adding nonsense about her having a secret ugly form and a preNen transformation ability is baseless and has nothing to do with her established character.
Nen is the core of the power system. Magical beasts are more or less unmentioned in the manga in the whole Chimera Ant arc, as far as I can remember, and are clearly a legacy from an earlier draft of HxH that was more collecting-focused.

>Owl
Probably Nen. If his muscle mass increases, his wings will twist into Gorilla-like arms. But it is also possible he is MB. Sure.

>Youpi
In the anime, yes. But I am willing to agree that this is probably canon in the manga too. Given that they probably consulted Togashi on something as big.

>tfw no theta gf
Why isn't there more art of her? Guess most artists are animefags

I'm pretty sure all the feat of strength the ant deploys should at least imply that they are good enough to deal with a nuke

Monkey? You mean the humanoid-rabbit/fox looking shapeshifting creature?

Should Shalnark have killed both Hisoka & Machi? Kill Machi first, then Hisoka?

The "man-faced ape". Chapter 8. If there is a shapeshifting animal in the manga that could be Youpi, that is probably it.

Yeah, because "whether there are GPS/ICBMs/fighter jets/aircraft carriers/assault rifles/fuel-air bombs or not" is a minor point tangential to the story.

>for Leorio and Kurapika it doesn't matter because they're never in it, and almost everything they do is of no consequence and happens off screen
FTFY.

While I doubt that Youpi is part from the ape looking creature or rabbit/fox mb, but if I have to choose, I would say the latter. Just look at Youpi’s feet and those magical beast, they look similair.

One of my favorite mangaka drew her, that's more than enough for me.

Kekero

Shalnark was a moron and I agree if he had a brain he would have separated Hisokas head from his neck. And then tell Machi to not fuck around or touch the body. If Chrollo tells them to confirm he'd dead that probably means "make sure" he's dead. So both Machi and Shal are morons for thinking it's just about checking something. But it's not just Shalnark that's stupid, it's Chrollo too. Why the fuck would he let Machi be there, the only person who can put people back together? Who also got paid by Hisoka to fix him up? The dumb fuck should have ordered them to dismantle Hisokas corpse, not some vague commant about checking if he'd dead. And Shalnark, if he had the IQ if an average mafia mobster and not a toddler, wouldn't have left Machi alone with a corpse after she just said she'd fix him up, what a dumb faggot. Their stupidity only makes me think Chrollo is really going to die to Hisoka.

Although the description doesn't make that much sense for Youpi, I guess. So the Kitsune-thing is probably the closest equivalent.

Still, no Magical Beasts show up in the manha Chimera Ants arc.

Attached: 0008-005 man faced ape.jpg (1066x1600, 356K)

You know all those things exist as it's made clear, dumbass, not focusing too much on that aspect doesn't mean completely disregarding it and making things up as he goes. The only exception is zeppelins being used as common means of aerial transportation even tho they are impractical and outdated but that's a stylistic choice and nobody gives a shit if they're not using modern airplanes for travel, it doesn't impact the story whatsoever

I hadn't noticed his feet. I guess that could make sense.

Anyway, me personally think that Youpi may come from some sort of a shapeshifting Lovecraftian demon. I doubt he had genes from the man-faced ape or the rabbit/fox creature, more like another shapeshifting creature.

Thankgod Kortopi did not wrong and she’s not to blame for this fucking toddler mess. Seriously fuck Shalnark & Machi double time.

Zeppelins aren't completely outdated for travel. They use less fuel than planes and require smaller airports. They are just slower and got a lot of bad press in our world due to the Hindenburg.

shouldn't the ants completely dominate the dark continent if we're thinking in strictly evolutionary terms?

>None that look like Zazan.
And, by my logic she's using her shapeshifting powers to look like a sexy woman but her "true" form is that of a crocodile monster. The story doesn't even state that shapeshifters can only become human, just that they CAN become human. Contextually this makes sense for the two early examples as both the foxes and the monkeys were trying to imitate humans to trick humans.
>Only in the anime,
No, in the manga right when Shoot and the others make their entrance in front of Youpi. It's stated he's a non-human hybrid using Magical beasts. This isn't anime-only nonsense
>Zazan clearly doesn't, or she would have used it to avoid Feitan's strikes
By that logic the owl would have shapeshifted to avoid Gon's attack. You're making an arbitrary point about shapeshifters now, Even a battle ready Youpi didn't shapeshift to avoid attacks like you're implying.
>How is that related to her ripping off her stinger to transform?
Making way for her new tail.
>You are yet to explain this.
See above
>Adding nonsense about her having a secret ugly form and a preNen transformation ability is baseless and has nothing to do with her established character.
Her established character is being part of a race of genetic freaks created from mixing and matching humans and animals. Including the crazy wildlife present in HxH. Saying she got a rage powerup equal in narrative to what Gon would later do is far more baseless as there's no actual evidence she made any contract.

Kurapika was a more comparable example, all he does is get a bonus to his aura when fighting the troupe, this is fine for Zazan but it's nothing as cumulative as

Kortopi is a girl I assume?

They probably have natural predators in the Dark Continent. I expect that most of the Chimera Ants Pariston takes there end up wiped out by Cordyceps or something like it.

Kortopi was obviously just going along with the rest, he's not a character to offer a unique opinion. But I'm just commenting from a logic standpoint, I'm glad Hisoka's alive and ready to fuck shit up. I'm just pissed that the way it was done was too convenient and went against the believable manner in which characters would have acted in that situation. If you wanna blame somebody blame Chrollo for being an autist, he should know what orders to give and how to approach all possibilities.

Here's the page from the manga about Youpi

Attached: Hunter X Hunter v25-109.jpg (2037x3056, 862K)

Wrong assumption

Going out, so I can't fully answer, but...

No. It is stated that Youpi doesn't have human on him. That he is part Magical Beast is a possible explanation, but none is given in the manga and him being Magical Beast is anime OC. Magical Beasts are never mentioned in the manga Chimera Ants arc.

>Making way for her new tail.
Doesn't make sense, it isn't like it is any longer or better. It was previously her main method of attack even.

See, speedreader

Attached: 1546421.jpg (1094x1641, 932K)

>Doesn't make sense,
Why not? you're assumpting she made a contract but there's no evidence that she did. Instead we know for a fact that chimera ants are part magical beast and we know her nen ability revolved around shapeshifting others. It's not hard to understand she herself was a shapeshifter using manipulation on others to do the same to them.

Again, the only nen I will admit she used was getting a bit more powerful from getting angry. But her body is a product of her nature as a chimera ant and not a contract she imposed on herself for the cost of anything.

And my second post confirms that the queen in the manga was eating magical beasts, which puts the shapeshifting owl and Youpi in the camp of natural shapeshifters. How is Zazan not now a part of this camp as well?

>Saying she got a rage powerup equal in narrative to what Gon would later do is far more baseless as there's no actual evidence she made any contract.
Zazan is not a POV character.

So was I user. I wasn’t sarcastic or anything.

After W7 it becomes your average 'mediocre at beast' shonen.
