Hopefully Kamio Yuo, Double Taisei, and TSS. All of them are offensively bad. TSS at least seemed like it had potential at chapter 1.
Hinomaru and Soma ended this year so they'll probably be lenient this round.
That said 2019 needs to get its act together.
Axe soon
>the only hits they've had since 2017 are fucking Act-Age and Jujutsu Who
The absolute state of WSJ.
Is Samurai 8 doing well?
It doesn't seem to have a fraction of the popularity that Naruto had.
It's Kishimoto. Even if it doesn't do well, I doubt it will get axed.
No way to tell. The first 5 chapters ranked well on ToC but 6 and 7 ranked in the lower numbers. Not dead bottom, but still not very great. Might just be those chapters, but we wont be able to know until next ToC obviously. Volume 1 doesn't come out until October so we cant measure success by sales either yet.
Samurai 8 is below my expectations cause I expected Kishi to draw the whole thing himself and the writing is a bit over the place.
I'm certain that people are going to buy it because its Kishimoto's work, its being pushed by Shonen Jump if even a little and it will certainly get an anime.
Probably the Rugby manga.
I think Yui will survive possibly one more round of cancellation if the genre shift doesn't cause it to pick up more readers.
Hachimaru will survive because of Kishimoto until they find a new hit to replace it with.
TSS seems like it is more popular than Taisei, so I'd imagine Taisei would go first.
How bad does your series have to sell to be axed within the first 10 chapters?
The Future is BEST!!
Don't you dare shittalk Mutou Black.
Apparently, WSJ usually has an idea of how well a manga will really do within the first few chapters. Alternatively, there could've been outside factors that lead to it ending early. Harisugawa in Mirrorworld ended because the author ran out of ideas for the series and quit.
But it wasn't good
"Since 2017" is just a year and a 1/2, so i don't get what so bad about this. Also there's 4 series likely to continue serialization
>his twitter is gone
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
>the author ran out of ideas for the series and quit.
kek but at least it's better than getting axed.
So far all the ones from 2019 should get the axe, including S8 but it will probably survive for at least a few volumes.
And I don't have high hopes for the two new ones that just got announced either.
It's Kishimoto doing the writing so It'll get a few volumes likely.
He had a Twitter? Did he decide to sudoku after Saiyuki axe?
One Piece.
To achieve that your reception needs to be so poor that you decide to seppuku the series with your own two hands.
Also Saiyuki author was an assistant to that mangaka who made the axed series about the green haired police chick
Why dont more mangaka goes to Magazine, Jump is so pack for it to be successfully.
> Attack on Titan in Kodansha shitty Monthly Magazine
> FMA in Squares shitty Magazine
Just being in Jump also doesnt dictate your popularity so why dont they just try in Magazine, or Sunday
S8 is so much like Saiyuki. It took until a double digit chapter for it to get interesting, theres like 4 to 5 chapters i would cut.
It's been a while since Yea Forums mourns one of jumps axe fodder.
When was the last time this happend Shudan?
Anyway something had to die for togashi to come back for the next month.
I just really hoped it wasn't going to be this.
Why couldn't it be kamio Yui?
Its hard to understand you. You're making too many contradictions, ESL-kun.
>almost more doujins were made than there were chapters.
Never stops being funny to me.
You know there were already 2 spots open, right? Also Togashi wont be coming back next month because there are 2 new serializations next week and the week after, and the GFC one shots which takes up the 3 slots used by Hinomaru, Shokukeki, and Saiyuki. Unless we get another axe round soon
Probably, because despite SNK and FMA jump is still the most popular.
And considering that they publish and axe new series every other month they probably publish any random schmuck's work.
Whew, 2019 looks really bad compared to most of that list.
2010 only had zoo and enigma make it any decent amount of chapters. Enigma I don't remember; 56 chapters is an odd time to axe something- generally if you make it a year you're gold.
2011 was a few that almost made it (Magico, Kurgana, St&rs) and one long-runner. Kurogane was a pretty by-the-numbers sportsmanga but it was pretty cool IMO.
2012 was just gold as far as stuff that was successful commercially. Assclass, Saiki, Haikyu, Souma. You see Horikoshi and Tataba's then potentially final aborted shots before their respective big hits.
2013 only had the ongoing comedy series filler slot, Soul Catchers, and World Trigger make it at all.
2014's only legit hit was MHA. Hinomaru I really liked but if there wasn't a yakuza holding a switchblade to the editor's balls no way it should've gotten 5 years given how it sold.
2015 had three good (shut up) series (Dancing Midgets, Samon, and BC), then 3 enormous faceplants. One from Obata, one literally who baseball manga, and an overhyped wunderkund artist (the artist for Cyborg Roggy was 16-17). Only tragic cancellation was Ultra Battle Satellite which had a pretty based MC.
2016- 2 big hits and the token ecchi series, the mysteriously durable Spring Weapon, the final aborted shot from the artist of Goblin Night/Iron Knight/Red Sprite (RIP, I thought your art was good at least). RIP Banba-san, and RIP Batsu.
Not a lot of success from previously successful mangaka outside of AssClass on this list.
Hoping for MHA
I'm saying that you could produce a successful series in a lesser known magazine, and at the same time, a unsuccessful series in a popular magazine. So why bother with the extremely packed Jump in the first place, when Magazine and Sunday exist.
you could at least hope for something realistic because that's 100% not happening.
>It's been a while since Yea Forums mourns one of jumps axe fodder.
I don't think many people here actually gave a shit about Saiyuki though. The last axe some anons seemed to care about was Noah Notes. Until not long ago there was still a fag who was butthurt about it being axed which is funny.
There were a good chunk of people upset about David being axed.
I actually wished a lot of these series were axed faster, but that would be cruel even for SJ standards.
i think it all comes down to money. if you can reach 3 volumes in shonen jump which is 30 weeks, you'll have more sales than if you reached 5 volumes in some lesser known magazine. and depending on your performance an editor might want you to do more one-shots and see if you can get into SJ again.
but most of the artists are inexperienced and terrible at writing so it doesn't help their reputation much, might as well use a pen name
Being on a less popular magazine might increase your chances of surviving but it doesn't guarantee anything, they can axed. And the gains are higher if you do manage to survive in Jump.
I forgot about David, a lot of people did seem to care about it. But to any Davidfags out there, from the author's afterword he does seem determined to come back.
The fuck are you saying? Mangaka do go to other magazines all the time. But going to WSJ does help you with success. There are like 8 series in the magazine who have had anime adaptations, that is not the case for other magazines.
If Daijirou ever makes a new serialization, I hope he doesn't take another 6 years to do it or else I might be dead by the time he returns
>Last Saiyuki got axed
>Gaijin piss so much
>Sale volume 1 bad
Why they not buy it
how many times can you get axed with jump?
3 strikes and your out as far as I have seen.
Loli and dolljoints is so 2000s. Yuck
1. Fix your English
2. The slow as fuck pacing immediately after the first 3 chapters killed all interest in it. They stayed in one location explaining the universe without advancing the plot for too long.
His next series should have the storytelling of Saiyuki with the pacing of Mutou Black.
I actually really liked that early 2000s look everyone had.
Especially the MC.
I don't have the whole history of the magazine in front of me but generally it appears you get 2-3 shots as far as stuff getting axed early. If your series makes it around a year or more it doesn't seem to really count against you.
>Why couldn't it be kamio Yui?
Because based on what little volume sales data there is available, Sayuki bombed hard while Yui just did bad.
Any more examples of an author going fucking crazy before getting the axe?
was this the one where the author did a weird abrupt gag and basically ended with a note that said "yeah i have no plans on continuing this peace out"
That's Harisugawa in Mirror World.
Gal Cleaning is the Garyu gag manga that all of a sudden threw rape into the story for no real reason and then ended after that.
no he started a rape subplot like 5 chapters in
At this point I just want to read other magazines. Tired of getting burned by Jump's fanbase. Sunday or Weekly Shonen would be fucking nice.
just skimmed through it on mangadex and ahahaha what the fuck
you had a pretty good "infotainment" manga idea there and for some reason introduce a new character and have a rape flashback
I don't remember that manga being that bad, the girls were cute at least.
>for no real reason
The reason was "fuck editors for axing my manga".
They should just bring back Matsui already
Magazine and Champion are pretty good from what I've seen
Sunday kinda sucks and the last thing I liked was Memesis
I wish WSM did the free model like WSJ is doing
What about Jump Square? It has a few sequels, that one series by the Death Note duo that nobody seems to like, and World Trigger.
>axed at 10 chapters
>15 of them are chapter 8
Fucking amazing. An example for us all.
From the designs I thought this series was going to be for the younger WSJ readers
The only reason I'd want to read Sunday is that it has Souboutei Must Be Destroyed and maybe some nice weekly mysteries from Detective Conan. But they do treat their mangaka bad (Like Raikou and I think the guy who did The World only God Knows) if they're not top brass so it's kind of a an unsure thing if I'd want to support the magazine itself. I'd at least like more options and to not feel the impending 'cancellation' threat so often, but maybe it's just as bad in other magazines.
I'd be fine with that too. Although MangaPlus has both those series going on right now so I technically already have access to them.
Not so well, but let's see how that volume will sell. Even CSM already built a fanbase by chapter one, samurai 8 has nothing.
nobody give a shit about this. last thing worth being upset about was Hungry Marie
This truly was the last saiyuki
Apparently, Vol 1 and 2 don't come out until they are both released together in October. It'll probably do well because of Kishi, but right now nothing released in 2019 has done well. The Last Saiyuki's Vol 1 sales were so bad that the fact it even lasted this long goes to show that WSJ is just looking for more new hit series.
You mean Noah's Notes? Shit was the new HxH but of fucking course japs and their shit taste killed it and let that trite bullshit Jujutsu live.
I don't know which magazines most of the series I'm reading even come from, now that I think about it. Sometimes it's fun to discuss manga from a single magazine (WSJ) in one place but other than that it's not that important to me.
Bitch shut up
It's just the format of picking up a magazine and maybe finding a new series you probably wouldn't read otherwise is interesting to me. I think American comics could greatly benefit if they made entire magazines of different series instead of four dollars for each chapter separately over and over.
Which Jump actually sells well other than the main 6
Kamio Yui is eternal.
>because of Kishi
Then, why I'm not seeing any shit from japs on other sites about this series? Not even the western are invested in this series. Like I said, CSM already had a fanbase and it's first volume did well. Samurai 8 won't run the same luck because of "Kishi".
this was so bad I wanted to kill myself after reading it
>Samurai 8 won't run the same luck because of "Kishi".
I really hope not. He's not someone I wanted to see come back to write manga. He's not good.
That's a good point, I don't think I would've ever discovered smaller series like Samon, Sesuji, Hinomaru, or Act-Age if it hadn't been in the magazine's lineup. But I usually find new stuff to read by lurking around different kinds of threads so it's not that big of an issue for me.
Japs also never talked about The Promised Neverland and look what happened to that.
Ole Golazo was mourned even if just for Banba The Man
New U19 series when?
But this has nothing to do with the Saiyuki series.
Going to screencap this for when S8 volume 1 does better than CSM
Here's a change of pace from the usual discussion, but among the newcomers at risk of the axe, which of them have shown that the author has real potential? Also, how many previous attempts have the authors of the series made?
They'll just slap a Naruto sticker on the volumes that says "From the creator of Naruto!" and it will sell. Now from that point onwards it's all up in the air desu.
>but among the newcomers at risk of the axe, which of them have shown that the author has real potential?
Literally not a single one of the current batch.
Like that one user mentioned earlier, the Last Saiyuki author also did Mutou Black several years ago.
I have screencaped this as well.
They also axed Magi which pissed the author and she switched to Magazine. But Wakaki isn't mistreated, he designed few of their mascots.
>tfw Jump is self aware and deliberately avoiding the U19 club
On one hand good for new series since they have a longer grace period. On the other hand the meme was amazing.
>Mutou Black was the cushion that died in World Trigger's place
The author has my regards.
They're all shit.
Tokyo Shinobi Squad's artist could end up making something good later but who knows.
Bozebeat's is shit but the artists other work is very good and he has 2 Kimetsu no Yaiba spin-offs under his belt(I'm actually surprised he made the flaming pile of shit that is Bozebeats)
Kamio Yuo is too random. Double Teisei is about fucking shogi(who the fuck plays shogi) and Beast Children can be replaced cause there's nothing special about it.
cucksawman
>T.NNfags
I don't like shittalking series I've never read, but U19 getting axed at exactly Chapter 18 was impossible not to laugh at. Especially with all the NEXT BIG SHONEN shitposting that was surrounding it.
I've read the first chapter when it came out and knew it will get axe soon.
>Tomato Dog is still alive on J+
Fucking based.
Dammit the Bozebeats mc was such a qt, too bad the series sucked.
>(I'm actually surprised he made the flaming pile of shit that is Bozebeats)
I honestly think him becoming such a hardcore fan of Kimetsu was a good influence on him. His most recent work besides Tomioka Gaiden is much better than Bozebeats, although its just a one shot. His storytelling is much more genuine and his composition isn't nearly as boring as it was before. I honestly hope he gets another serialization after seeing his improvement
Read it here: mangadex.org
Not gonna lie, the giant prayer bead gatling gun was stupid cool. If he really did improve in those other aspects then his next series might actually stick.
>reading all 8 chapters of that mess
I didn't make it to the end of the first chapter.
You now remember Over Time, Catoblepas, SWOT, and Takamagahara.
Muto Black is same mangaka as Saigo no Saiyuki
So how about them two series that are coming next week? Axe fodder?
We don't even know their genre. First could either be a romcom or a Black Cat type manga and second could be a gag manga or literally anything
Double Taisei for sure
>Last Saiyuki
>They're still swinging
The power of fujo
90s boybands can't be beaten.
Ghost Tits feeds again.
She's coming after Double Taisei, Yui Kamio and Beast Children next. Eventually she will feast on The Promised Neverland.
>Eventually she will feast on The Promised Neverland.
The crazy thing is this is actually true.
>tfw 30k Club President finally graduated
I kinda liked SWOT and its pseudo-Kubo art.
>ghosttits is one of the oldest manga in wsj right now
sasuga gal undo
What the fuck are these
next issue preview
I know that, I'm talking about the new series
Psyren 2 when?
Kamio Yui. The author already has a hit series under (Nurarihyon) his belt and it's gotten much better since it switched to horror.
Souboutei fairly severaly disappointed me when it went from ooky spooky horror to a sci fi adventure. I also don’t understand why that guy lost his eye and skin when everyone else who overcame the evil flatworms just cut them in half with the power of self justification.
>it's gotten much better since it switched to horror.
Why are you lying, it's still fucking garbage.
It looks prettier, I'll give him that
Underrated post.
Saiyuki, TSS, Beast Children, Double Taisei, Kamio Yui and possibly S8 should have their own name as a flop group.
>Tokyo Shinobi Squad's artist could end up making something good later but who knows.
He should be paired with a better writer.
From what I heard the one on the right is by the Poro author. The one on the bottom left is a gag manga by an author that was previously published on Jump+
And I meant to say the author published something on J+ before, not that this manga especifically was from there.
>act-age still going strong
Huh. do 25+ year olds read WSJ? that stuff is mature and too boring for kids
>Act-age
>too boring for kids
Nigga if I was a nip kid Yonagi would become my instant waifu.
Would you actually read the story or just read it for the character designs?
I'm not lying. The general consensus is that it's gotten better. The art is better, the story has an actual plot and focus, and the MC isn't as intolerable as he was before.
What Kamio Yui is now is what the manga should've always been about.
Jump needs a mecha series, the last one was fucking GETTER ROBO for fuck's sake.
Mecha doesn't anymore if it isn't gundam/macross/etc.
I'm pretty sure mecha is still appealing to little kids at least.
Tell that to Sentai, they're almost dead at this point
>Japan
>little kids
Well whatever then.
Also Jump needs a new comedy manga, Ghost tits can't carry the magazine by it's self and BokuBen has gone to shit outside of the Sensei chapters (and I say that as a Rizufag).
One of the the new series in the next batch is a gag manga.
Time for Gintama Z
No, Gintaman.
Saigo no Saiyuuki was great. Neverland and Kimetsu are ending soon too.
Jump is going to be fucking boring.
>Also Jump needs a new comedy manga
then why did they axed this good one so early?
I'm guessing the volume sales were shit, like what happened to Dancing Midgets and Samon.
Those two sold like shit but they had more than double the lifespan that David did. There was either black magic pushing at play or the readers just didn't care for the art gags.
Jump used to give batches their own names like Super Push and Rising. Maybe they only do that if they have a lot of faith in whatever they're pushing.
Too bad its the best of the bunch
they missed the opportunity to let Mona's tits hang on the frame
The two series that were axed in the 2013 Spring cancellation round were Hungry Joker and Kiruko-san. Send the Black Clover author your thanks instead.
I hate wasted character designs
Was I the only one who liked TLS? it getting axed over shitstains like TSS and Double Taisei is sad. There was so much potential and it had good fucking art. Also the character designs in the last chapter Hrnnnghhh
I actually liked the first couple of chapters, so I was rooting for it to pull through despite not following it weekly. From what I've seen it looks like nobody like the exposition or the rehashed Journey to the West themes.
TLS was good, better than other newbies
Why are you assuming it got axed over those series? It got axed first because it started serialization first, but those series will get axed all the same in a few months as they near the 20s in chapters. The only thing that may survive is Kamio Yui and that's literally only because its from a well-known author. Also emphasis on MAY survive, it only sold 5k.
>assuming it got axed over those series
I'm not, I just wanted it to not get axed period.
Yui Kamio is a horror manga now? What did I miss?
And have we heard from the Gal Cleaning author since it ended? Or is he still missing in action? And if so, do you think we'll ever hear from him again?
We're hitting the era where the birth and economic crisis is hitting full swing.
Less children reading manga, less aspiring mangaka. Less money, more pressure to copy what works rather than make something new and interesting.
It's the same that's happening to Japanese gaming. Unless you're one of the big companies you're either going to have Triple A budget games or Neptunia tier shlock with assets resused 10 times over.
Japan is dying
>Neptunia tier shlock with assets resused 10 times over.
Elaborate?
It's fallen a bit. I see it lasting 8 volumes and ending.
>Gag genius
I read the first chapter and I had no idea what was going on, I blame the shit translation.
Neptunia games use the same 4-5 areas, 10 or so enemy models and same weapon models for practically ever game.
To put it in perspective the first game had you fight at least 6 bosses more than once, at least 3 reskins of the same boss (which included the FINAL BOSS) and they've used the cave area from that game for practically every game since.
And 2 has had half of it's stages reused for every game after it as well.
The only game that deviated somewhat from the 1:1 copy paste was Cyberdimension but that was a flop so that means it'll never change
It's about gangs of delinquents fighting for territory. It reads like a clusterfuck because Sawai attempted to apply his weird gag humor and an abundance of shitty human character designs to a somewhat serious story.
It's like he never learned his lesson from Shinsetsu Bobobo.
>Last Saiyuki
Author deleted his twitter account
Fuck, It's super sad
I actually was enjoying this, but I expected it to get the axe from how slow the beginning was. Just read the last chapter and it's a real shame how rushed it all had to get just to feel like it had an "ending". I feel like the story had potential, it was just not quick enough to realize it. Hope the author can recover from this and takes his own message to heart to stand strong and not give up.
Souboutei was always going to have sci-fi elements with the implication of Time Travel from the start. And the horrors aren't any different just cause the origins aren't the same as traditional Japanese Ghost Stories. They're still shapeshifting monsters that prey on your insecurities.
Why do people like those games?
did he give up trying to be a mangaka or something?
reminds me of when Hori felt like killing himself after Barrage was axed
kishi only wants 10 volumes, so it'll probably run as long as it needs to regardless of performance
Has Piss fucked Mona?
