Ok, I’ll admit I’m not caught up on this series so there’s a lot of content I missed; which is partially why I’m asking this. But the last time I was reading bokuben, the most popular girl on these threads was Fumino and most of the fanart, memes and “endgirl” predictions revolved around her. However, I’ve noticed that the threads have gradually adopted Sensei as its favorite. And it goes beyond these threads; Sensei even won the most recent character popularity poll by a wide margin. So can an user explain this to me: why is she the most popular pairing for Nariyuki? I personally think it’s a little unsettling that he’s romantically linked to his teacher.

Everybody thought the winner was going to Fumino cause she's main girl so she has the meta advantage but as time went on that's all she had, meta. Sensei on the other hand has a cute and close relationship to Naiyuki (they have been likened to a married couple) and is the most developed girl BY FAR. She has all of the moments you'd expect out of a main girl and the only arc that wasn't complete dog shit. Poll results came out and it was a total wash, she got more than all of the the other characters combined, took a shit ton of votes from the other girls, and became the highest voted Jump heroine EVER. People were saying that Tsutsui would stop focusing on her and try to grind more popularity for Fumino but the mad man doubled down and kept one-upping himself while the other girls got boring and stagnant chapters. The best example is 121 and 122. They were Fumino and Sensei chapters respectively and were exactly 100 chapters after 21 (where Fumino started to grow feelings for Nariyuki) and 22 (where Mafuyu first really joined the standard rotation). In Fumino's case she's the exact same character as she was 100 chapters prior but for Sensei Tsutsui makes it point to show how much she's grown. Not even just her but her sister is more developed than Fumino or anybody else in the harem which is absurd. Them being right next to each other makes me have a hard time believing that Tsutsui didn't do this on purpose. People have started reading this series just cause they're curious if the sensei can actually win for once, especilaly in Japan, and ff you have the time I suggest you read it and see how crazy the difference is, it's actually not even a competition anymore

To be fair, 5toubun is a romantic drama with comedy. A bride was shown and foreshadowed via frame narrative where the ending was shown at the beginning. In comparison, Bokuben is majorly comedy with bare elements of romance and although a lot follow it for shipping reasons, a winner is not absolutely necessary in place of status quo friendship situation.

Fumino isn't main girl though, she's more like a plot device to move the series forward. As much as I'd like to see the sensei end play out for both the lulz and my own satisfaction, I think it's more likely we get blueballed into a no-win scenario cliffhanger to satisfy the most readers. Several artists haven't been giving into SJW tears over controversial themes so that ending is a possibility but I won't hold my breath.
