Where in the Galaxy is Yuki Rito? Have him disappear; hell, have Azenda kidnap him. Now send everyone off looking for him, while he gets hauled from one embarrassing ecchi situation to another by his abductors. You could even make it into Gid's attempt to turn him into a suitable successor.

It could be done, but I would find it more likely that he picks someone like Run. Maybe having her needing to go back to space and her home planet for some reason and the entire gang tagging along. Like points out, the normal stuff is kind of stale at this point and going to space next would be a logical continuation.

Rito needs a good excuse to have his personality improve to want a harem. He may be unable to avoid the accidents, but he could start to act intentionally too.
