It starts literally from zero, the main character doesn't even learn the setting's power system until quite a few arcs in. It's just a slower kind of story. If the whole setting doesn't catch your attention within a few episodes (don't forget about the 3 episode rule), then it's safe to assume that you have no interest in this series so there's no need to keep going.
Compare it to the aforementioned BnHA, where Deku gets his power handed to him very early on and the story develops as he tries to get better control of it (even disregarding the 7 quirks bullshit that hasn't even made it into anime form yet). They're completely different things for obvious reasons.

I don't remember too much from the earlier parts, but what drew me in was how it felt somewhat unique, the Hunter exam arc is a good example of this. I don't know how to explain properly so I guess it's better to just go into it blind and measuring how you feel after a few episodes to decide if you want to keep going or not.
One thing I remember well though is that you shouldn't pay attention to this 1999 vs. 2011 war, both versions are good enough. The only issue is that while the most recent feels more polished (better animation, no fillers, adapts more of the manga and so on), its musical direction is complete fucking ass in quite a few scenes and it insists in repeating a few tracks all the time.

no trolling, I usually only read the manga since the anime usually has a bunch of boring padding, I couldn’t make it past the first couple of pages. The whole “there are hunters in the world who look for valuable items and rare creatures and whatever” made exactly zero sense to me. It felt like an asspull rather than exposition, if they explained a little more why the world was this way or what makes those particular items worth becoming a hunter for I’d bite. I felt like I was being spoon fed information without giving me a reason to connect with it on an emotional level which to me is a sign of very bad story telling.

I have a hunch that HxH is a manga only pretentious people can enjoy, because I notice that their fans are always arrogant and hellbent on convincing others that their manga is the best and other mangas pale in comparison. I could not make it past page 7 of the first chapter of HxH. It just isn’t interesting enough. The story is bland, the main character looks like astroboy AIDS, there is literally nothing there for me to care about. I could read it in the hopes that it gets better but why bother? Dunno if you care about my opinion but I never really cared about shounen or HxH in general, I watched a lot of them when I was younger but right now if I go back and look at them again the difference in quality between mature manga and shows is huge, I got memed into watching HxH, the first arc was okay, nothing special, but it just kept getting better from there, the quality of the writing was on par with my all time favorite mangas, Yorknew city was a masterpiece, then I made it to episode 111 and I'm pretty sure 111-136 is something that can never be topped, the famous Chimera ant arc that people like shitposting about so much, I never expected this level of complexity and writing from a Shounen, easily in my top 5 and I have watched and read hundreds of mangas over the course of 9 years now.

HxH is the superior seinen published in the best selling manga magazine, only Kenshin, FMA, Death Note and Jojo (at it's best) come close. Obviously AoT isn't even a well written series, that goes for all the battle shounen series as well.

Absolute retard, the DC is Ging's life goal and his character has just been introduced, it's obvious that it's a set up for the next part of the story. Same for Pariston and Alluka. Not to mention that there's still the whole Illumi going after Killua plot unresolved as well. It doesn't matter that the DC arc wasn't adapted, Gyro meeting Gon wasn't either, it doesn't change the fact that a plot point that is clearly meant to be picked up in the future was bought up, but only for the Gyro bit they decided to ignore it.

That's not the same thing stupid ape, it's not been adapted because the anime stopped first, while the Gyro bit happened during an arc they've covered in full. Plus it's not left ambiguous, we know they found the exorcist and there's no reason whatsoever to assume Chrollo is not coming back and his fight with Hisoka is not happening.

Gon is only really the MC in Hunter Exam and Greed Island. Yorkshin is Kurapika's arc and Election arc is mostly Killua. Zoldyck family and Heaven's arena
are Gon-Killua shared, and Meruem is arguably also a Main Character in Chimera Ants.
