I don't find Ran boring at all. On the contrary, I think she's interesting and actually feels like a real person in her personality.
Gosho just doesn't give her enough to do. I wish he'd would find more ways to incorporate her into the plot, but it feels like he's shielding her from everything, as if he's afraid of her getting hurt in some way.
