Silent Voice is better. Liz is full of directional touches and small things of intent to discover, but its chore to watch and is mastrubation of yamada and watcher, who tries to find things in it rather than enjoy the movie for what it is.

Silent Voice is better probably because Yamada could not ruin the source completely, while Liz falls in the same hole as Tamako Market. Hibike Finale is a much better Hibike movie, because Ishihara understands what hibike fans actually want.

Koe no Katachi suffered from trying to cram an overlong manga series into a movie. Liz is perfectly paced, structured and sized.

A Silent voice is only popular because the manga was a huge success and incredible popular itself.
Not because it's a better movie then liz, which flopped and got mediocore reception.

The third move covering Kumiko's second year came out last fall and got a short North American release the week before the fire. It ended with a teaser for Kumiko as Buchou for her third year. God knows if we'll ever see more.

Is the movie really that good? Is it necessary before I watch any of Hibike continuation?

As someone who snoozed through their arc in the second season I thought the movie was excellent and I came to care a great deal about both characters and their relationship. It’s not necessary to watch it before Finale Oath though. It’s really a standalone film, you don’t even need to be familiar with Eupho at all to see it, and Kumiko is barely in it.

I didn't even knew it was part of a franchise and I liked it.

I'm glad that the staff lost managed to complete a masterpiece before passing.
