I think the atmosphere when playing Go and Shogi is really similar. You won't understand the high level moves anyway and will need to read the explanations and reactions on why something was good. I play Go for years and I for sure didn't understand shit, it's because you don't see every move they make, just bits. In Hikaru no Go there is also some shogi here and there and more importantly you will see a lot of the world of competitive board games in japan and even world wide. It's not like I'm recommending Chihayafuru where the game they play competitively is completely fucked up.
3-gatsu no Lion is probably the best shogi anime, shogi plays a central role but unlike Hikaru no Go it's not the core aspect of the series.
