Just finished the first volume. I want to start on the next but there's also another series I want to start on.

Attached: IMG_20190815_110109.jpg (1251x1920, 624K)

>Never released anything in my life
>Manage to shit out 5 chapters within a week
>Had to learn how to typeset, clean, redraw, add borders to text, rip images from web magazines

I'm burnt out but I feel accomplished. Only 84 more chapters to do before I'm caught up

Attached: 1552545121289.png (1800x2560, 684K)

still have 10 chapters or so to catch up with before I rip the next ones. That's going to to be a pain in the ass, so I hope someone else may upload that shit in the meantime

>Scanlating for free

Lmao

I do it for the (views)

kill yourself jew

desertsnow.ch is dead, now I don't have any private raw sites

>find hot doujin untranslated
>fap
>translate it
>Can't fap to it anymore because I'm too busy thinking there were parts I could have written better.

This is hell.

So is it just a coincidence that all the books that I've ripped from ebj lately has been 1200x or has the site really gone to the shitters? I ripped 9 books and only one of them was 1920x while the rest were the same 1200x crap quality.

Attached: ばくおん!! ~鈴乃木 凜の野望~0012.png (2137x1200, 2.4M)

boards.fireden.net/a/thread/191882759/#191892955

Depends on the publisher. Jump tanks are always 1200px for example, no matter what digital raws you rip

This was ripped right before the site got bought before yahoo. So far, I haven't seen any manga on the new site where they have 2048x like this.

Attached: どるから (3)0000.png (1440x2048, 2.58M)

Even 1600x is better than all the 1200x dogshit that I've been ripping lately.

Are you guys ripping from the online reader? Maybe the desktop one has better quality.

I'm retarded why can't I read this?

Attached: fd5c673e073a229672689da02952f365.png (43x49, 3K)

Hard. I don't know enough (almost nothing in fact) japanese so translation is difficult.

lol oh god is it the subarashii guy again?

Holy shit that's why I thought but it's so badly written I wasn't sure

Yeah, I think that's the only way to rip from them at the moment. I know there is the desktop app, but I don't know of any method to rip from it.
Even if someone finds a way, they can patch that shit so easily that people just use the online reader to rip stuff in the end.

Any pointers for ripping from nico?

So, I'm new to scanlating. If the raws from panda look decent, do you guys usually still change the levels to clean the dust? Also for black and white doujin, the image mode should be grayscle 8bit right? How about full colored?

When you don't know, just use jisho, search by radicals and divide the kanji into smaller parts that you recognize.

Disregard the thot youtube.com/watch?v=IpKIDWM01XY

slowly, but surely

C96 dropped so I have stuff I'm planning on doing.
I feel super guilty about turning down my translator on the thing he wanted to do last time, redrawing it would've either been lazy or impossible.

So you porn scanners why do you do porn?

Attached: 1490278203729.jpg (612x716, 313K)

Because, porn.

Fair

I see often see numbers like 十四五 and such while reading older Japanese literature, anyone know how they're supposed to be interpreted?

I got two bubbles said by a character acting like a referee:
>はっけよーい
>のこった!
How would you translate this Yea Forums?

Context: These are sumo terms but used in a non-sumo competition that is somewhat non-physical (like juggling balls).
>translate the sumo terms into English - "Put some spirit into it!" and "Remaining!", but the latter doesn't make sense at all
>use romaji for the sumo terms and leave a TN note - "Hakkeyoi" and "Nokotta", but that looks like crap, and a TN note could sound as stupid as "keikaku means plan"
>instead of bothering to translate it, instead completely replace the words with something like "ready, set, go!"
>something else

>but the latter doesn't make sense at all
that means you don't understand what they're trying to say
TL notes, in the vast majority of cases, are a crutch used by people who have no clue what they're doing, and it applies here, too.

Anyone know if Samurai Kyo ever finished? I loved this series when I was 15.

The best you can do is translate it into English, and to satisfy the autists in the room, to add a TLN explaining that he's talking in sumo.
It's really not any different from trying to translate "Steerike you're out" to japanese.

I uploaded the first volume on Mangadex yesterday. Hope you don't mind.

No it's all good.

I forgot to mention, but both of these words were said before the start of the competition, with "のこった" specifically starting it. "Remaining" sounds like a weird way to start a non-sumo competition to me. Is "remaining" still good in place of "のこった", or is there a better way to put it in English?

Is there a good resource on other Japanese dialects? I wanna translate a manga but it's full of island speak

Attached: 1552672681850.png (750x526, 332K)

Btw thank you for picking up the manga. Certainly an interesting read. Is the manga monthly?

>monthly manga
>scanlator splits it up into parts
I can understand having to split it when the publisher does it, but this is just stupid

Attached: monstaboo.jpg (900x589, 313K)

Alright there are literally fuckall jobs where I live and the golden arches job i have is slowly killing me, i wanna go legit
convince me not to

Mangadex has a file size limit, so if HQ scans are being used and the chapter is long it's obviously better to split it instead of lowering the quality for it to fit.

I think it is. Although on zenyon it says it updates weekly.

>golden arches job
Should have worked for Carl's Jr

Just go legit then

Attached: hand scooped milk shakes.webm (1280x720, 2.69M)

It's not about the file size limit since it's also split into parts on the scanlators own site.

I'm guessing you're talking about Shuumatsu no Valkyrie? their site also had a size & page limit.

No man I'm talking about what my pic was

How do you rip from bookwalker?

Attached: 1558629846447.jpg (298x373, 25K)

print screen?

Seriously?

>translated from chink
lol
Even the heroine's name is wrong.

Attached: heyifitworks.jpg (500x673, 72K)

I thought there was another way to rip it. Did I just waste my two dollars?

Attached: EB-te-zVUAE0GXG.jpg large.jpg (407x405, 35K)

I only use the previews, do they use the same thing for a full book 'cause then inspect element should work?

Attached: bookwalker inspect element.jpg (3830x1800, 1.71M)

I mean, that's how I do it, maybe there's another way but I don't know it, sorry I can't help more than that user.

here, maybe some older thread may have the answer you're looking for
desuarchive.org/a/search/text/bookwalker/

I wouldn't going legit is worse than a McJob, but you usually don't get to work on what you like, so you might as well stay at McDs.

Working mostly on older untranslated stuffs and trying to release one every couple of days. I just wish I could find better sources since most of the links pre-2010 are all dead now.

>I just wish I could find better sources since most of the links pre-2010 are all dead now.
What you working on?

You're talking about DDL aggregator blogs where the links expire? In those cases, I can usually find a live version somewhere if I search around enough. Give me an example or two you can't find, and I'll see if I can give you any searching methods to use in the future. Or maybe you just have bad luck, who knows.

Not him, but if you're willing, I'm looking for Goblin, Tengoku e no Kaidan (天国への階段), Ippongatana Dohyou Iri and Gekiha Hasegawa Shin by Makoto Kobayashi, I've found the rest of his works, but those particular four lead me to dead ends.

Attached: i203135.jpg (230x323, 191K)

I don't scanlate but I just wanna say thanks to you guys.

Screw your thanks, you'd be helping more by actually talking about what we scanlate than wasting your comments thanking scanlators.

Man that's some hardcore DRM they have and I don't have to skill to do all they

No you can't do that on their reader

Attached: 1465877396023.png (851x720, 780K)

Well what are you scanlating then?

Reading the comments there, seems like bookwalker is a dead end for most people.

It's the only site with raws that I can buy from. I had an automated system of taking screenshots from their offline reader and stitching them back together for a while before I even decided to look into properly ripping them. What I used was de4dot, JetBrains dotPeek, Rohitab API Monitor, the old ripper I found in the archive and a lot of free time. Having no other options sure makes the decision easy.

LLLEEETS GET REAADDY TOO RUUMMMBBLEEE

Why can't you buy raws from other sites?

He's probably too retarded to set up an amazon japan account

Ripping from their reader with a userscript is pretty easy. They don't even taint canvas with cross-origin data anymore.

Do you guys have a pastebin/docs for resources/guides/important shit and stuff?

All the other sites I looked at need credit cards. Maybe that changed since then, but BW was the only place that accepts Paypal.

>Only 84 more chapters to do before I'm caught up

Take a break, you'll regret it if you don't. Also, don't overwork yourself.

pastebin with time limit?

I don't know how to use those. I'm a brainlet when it comes to anything software related. I saw a thing on Mangadex but I don't understand why they're saying

I'm gonna slow down to 1 or 2 a week. I just wanna get some better quality raws before I chill out

Attached: 1557099566602.jpg (720x720, 99K)

That's amazing. Self taught?

Watch a sumo match that is broadcast in English and use whatever they use. If they use the Japanese terms and you can't reasonably expect your audience to be familiar with sumo terminology, add a note saying that they are sumo terms indicating the start and end of a match or whatever.

Yeah. I wouldn't say I'm particularly good, but I am happy with my redraw ability

Attached: ECGtrybU0AEnGMy.jpg large.jpg (2048x576, 260K)

Can't see your layers and that redraw was fairly straight forward but if you're not doing it already, typeset first. It often makes redrawing a whole lot easier

I already finished that chapter. What I did was redrew it then put text over it and gave it a white outline

Yes, just for the general workflow. Text, especially with outline, covers a lot of area and makes it hard to follow patterns and lines beneath it. You can cover the worst areas with it and drastically reduce the amount and difficulty of what needs to be redrawn.

One man rock bands, how much have you put out this year so far? Let's get a pissing match going. I'm on my 14th volume. Almost caught up to one series, and three volumes away from finishing the other one I'm working on. Been a productive year so far.

Thanks

>GIMP
don't do this to yourself
it's not worth it, i know, i tried
PS is easy as fucking shit to pirate

I'm not really having that big an issue with it so far

Which manga are you doing?

While the differences are mostly QoL stuff, QoL means hell of a fucking lot. The text placement tools being the biggest timesave, along with cleaning and text-centering scripts you can find.
It looks like you got a relatively simple series, my first series had so many sfx that i was tearing my hair out.
I'd give it a shot if I were you, if your backlog is as big as it sounds.

>text-centering scripts you can find.

Not him but, care to share some of those? I've been doing it by hand this whole time.

Rororro, why?

>cleaning and text-centering scripts you can find
Holy shit that sounds extremely helpful

>my first series had so many sfx that i was tearing my hair out
How many people translate the sound effects? I'm in the Araki mindset where they're part of the art so I don't like the idea of translating them

>it's full of island speak
>Kyushu
Kansai, Kyoto/Osaka-ben then? They also get commonly used frequently in historical/sengoku era mangas.

Fake island in the Seto inland sea

When I was translating Inari I had to do a shit ton of googling, but it wasn't difficult. Eventually you'll understand all your あらへんs ちゃうs さかいs やねんs ほなs and everything else, in my case being kansai-ben.

If it's something like tohoku-ben, well, best of luck.

Does anyone know how to get hands on old magazine scans? In particular, Young Sunday from the mid 2000's. I know it's a literal pipedream for how old it is. Want to try to get my hands on the color pages for a series.

I was like you in the past. Then I tasted content-aware fill and being able to rotate the fucking text box. Now I can't go back to gimp.

Make friend with a Japanese person and pray?

Did this recently. Fucked the shit out of my shoulder for a couple of days not sitting right while cramming through.

What series are you doing?

Last thread (I can recall) we had an user getting set up the the raws for Asobi Asobase. Any luck getting started on the project?

I've been out of the loop for a bit. Used to use EBJ before they went to Yahoo and so my old script doesn't work, especially since there's scrambling now?
Anyone got a pastebin for an updated script?

Not sure about scrambling but the script I got is working.
Are you here?

Hit me

Here you go: pastebin.com/52khNMsy

Thanks a lot man.
Now I just gotta get it to work. Getting toblob errors or something.
I'll work it out.

No problem.
Weird that you got errors. I simply get the save pop-up window almost right away without any hinch.

Looks like it just didn't like my combination of browsers and extensions.
Managed to get it going fine in another browser.
And it turns out that scrambling thing isn't an issue since the script pulls the image after it's unscrambled.

Thanks again man.

Because they're usually oneshots and short series, allowing me to quit whenever the fuck I want. sadpanda also allows me to directly track how popular my galleries are even months after launch.

and honestly, in my personal opinion, much like VNs all ages manga have turned into absoluite trash in recent years. I can't find a series I enjoy at all.

These don't show up on keydb.telegrip.org so they were never scanned.

Then how come there's links for them on DDL sites (links are dead since some of these are from 10+ years ago)?
Were all of them fakes?
comicplace.blog.jp/archives/8737497.html
mangazips.blog.jp/archives/1004541133.html
comicplace.blog.jp/archives/8600045.html

keydb.telegrip.info/ actually

Share has random chapters from 2007-2008. Don't bother with it because the files are likely dead. I don't think anyone archived them while they were available because the west doesn't care about preserving raws and Japanese people only leeech and don't share their collections. Finding old magazine raws is usually impossible outside buying them on auctions.

web.archive.org shows that these sites used to host some links but the URLs seem fake and were only there to lure people into clicking on adfly links. If this site really delivered scans I'd expect all shit from it to be mirrored on other DDL sites.

This looks fake especially considering nobody would run a site that hosts illegal links on a blog.jp domain.

Damn, guess I'm out of luck then, thanks for checking anyways user.
Guess I'll have to keep an eye out and hope someone takes the time to scan them in the future.

Doubt it, usually new shit gets ripped from ebook stores and scanning is a thing of the past

So let's say I wanted to get them, what would my options be, buy them from amazon or kindle?

Kindle and rakuten kobo have the most accessible ripping tools, so yes.

Is it scanalation, scanlation or scantilation?

scunnylation

Scandalization

>How many people translate the sound effects? I'm in the Araki mindset where they're part of the art so I don't like the idea of translating them
Only if they're critical to understanding what's going on, meaning if characters respond to them in some way. And if a page ends with an SFX panel, that means the Japanese reader is expected to know what's going on just by seeing the SFX. At that point, ignoring the SFX means you're not translating something that clearly has a meaning that's expected to be conveyed to the reader.
Basically I ask myself the question "does this SFX explain what's going on or is it just background fluff?"

>How many people translate the sound effects? I'm in the Araki mindset where they're part of the art so I don't like the idea of translating them
Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Keep up the good work!

based

Keep in mind that while it's pretty much perfect for normal bubbles or boxes, it's no good for bubbles that are linked together because it'll try to awkwardly put the text in the middle, so you'll still have to do those by hand.
But even with that caveat, it trivializes the vast majority of typesetting.

Attached: autocenter.jpg (481x665, 56K)

>Translating porn

Attached: 1451943517963.png (1194x810, 152K)

Why do faggots even snipe on mangadex.
They're not even getting revenue.

Attached: panda.png (489x363, 125K)

I don't mean to be rude requesting, but if anyone has the time, please consider scanlating anything from the modern raster of shirow masamune.
Nothing he made from the past 20 years has been translated, several of his books are nonexistant online.
He has a website detailing his works, some of them don't even have pictures of the interiors on images, not a single one has an english translation.
Thanks in advance and keep doing great works, manga is a lot more accessible because of people like you.

Because some people go apeshit when it happens to them, and so they completely deserve it.

Who or what did it happen to?

Attached: 1541310308843.png (735x735, 509K)

it's more ecchi not porn

sometimes if the group is slow as fuck or just shit tier translation wise

would you mind posting examples of his work and links to his site?

The only thing I see from him nowadays is wet, oily, glistening sexy ladies in hentai magazines.

What scan resolution should you use in 2019?
3000p? 4000p?

if it's not at least 8k, get the fuck outta here

If it can't be projected on a wall of a scyscraper without upscaling, your rsolution might as well be for ants.

do you really need much more than 1600x to see it clearly? file sizes can get big if you go high

Anything above 50 billion DPI should be enough to represent individual atoms accurately, according to the sampling theorem.

Higher quality is always better for the future.

>How many people translate the sound effects?
It depends on how they're used. Lots of 4-koma use sfx to make up for the difficulty of conveying actions through art and panel flow, so leaving them out can cause confusion. They're needed to set the scene there. But for, say, a sports series that supplements the art with a ball bouncing sfx or the roar of the crowd, the effect is more about accentuating the artwork than explaining what's happening. In these cases, I think it's fine to leave them untouched.

well yeah but from a practical reading perspective I struggle to see why someone would want a 3000px height page

depending on the type of sfx side notes or text work fine

Work with what you got, honestly. I’m stuck with 1000 because it’s the only resolution I can find my manga in

Shirow masamune is the mangaka behind ghost in the shell and appleseed. Most of his modern works are hentai but he got some sfw stuff in there, though none of it is online
shirowledge.com
the works: shirowledge.com/index.html#comic
anything scanned from him in recent times is nsfw so I'll just link the e-h page
e-hentai.org/tag/artist:masamune shirow
apparently he did a bunch of sfw stuff too but it's pretty much not found on the internet besides a few shots and amazon.
It's a shame as well that nobody translate the very shiny ladies either.

It would help with 4k or 8k resolution displays.

That's still off-center.

Attached: b.png (481x307, 29K)

Even 2000 is a lot. If I have to scroll down a bunch to finish seeing the right side of a page before I can start the left side, it's annoying. When you read physical manga you know you're seeing the entire picture all at once. I don't need my digital manga to be a choose your own adventure. Do I go left or down?
I'm stuck using 1200 because Akita Shoten and Shonen Gahosha are a bunch of shitters, but even if I could choose, I probably wouldn't go higher than 1500.

professionally maybe but we're talking about the rough and dirty world of fan scanlatiom

Stop being poor

have you considered using waifu2x to upscale them a bit?

I like to read with pages fit to screen's width. x3000 is perfect for my monitor.

Upscaling is cancer.

It's not a bubble, silly goose.

So I can buy a big ol' monitor only for people to read my stuff on their phones anyway? Nah.

Tried it. Didn't do much for me. There's nothing left of the toner textures to begin with, it's all just grey blurry messes.

Attached: unknown.jpg (562x364, 136K)

waifu2x has some uses, but upscaling manga pages for distribution to others isn't one of them.

Waifu2x is an excellent upscaler, though. You wouldn't be able to tell this was an upscale at first glance, for example, since the screentones were properly preserved and the lines are not blurry. But it's an upscale nonetheless.

Attached: 164.png (1125x1600, 492K)

Reading 4-koma honestly works great on phone resolutions.

I haven't seen a single manga or doujin on the internet that has over 5k by 5k pixels
a scanner on 600 dpi has 7k by 5k ish pixels so I don't get how all of you claim to scan at 1600 or 8krez(not 8k pixels x and y) when most manga online 2-3k pixels (for either x or y) per page.

It depends. I have shit quality raws and tried to run them threw waifu2x. They did not look much better

It can be useful, but I would rather upscale a page myself for reading than have it upscaled before getting it. If the model gets better, the upscale can get better in the future and it's better to have the original then. If cropping a small part of a page, upscaling that can be fine sometimes.

You can immediately see where the line quaility suffered.

Do you have the original?

you need a practical level to typeset at, around 1600 works well for it

>I would rather upscale a page myself
Do you actually do that or do you just squint harder like the rest of us plebs?

There are two things I want to point out.
>It can be useful, but I would rather upscale a page myself for reading than have it upscaled before getting it.
A regular upscale will always look worse, and it will not make the text more readable if the image is low-res. A high-res page, on the other hand, doesn't have this problem as they're usually downscaled by your browser/whatever you use to ready your chinese comics.

Picture related shows the difference between a regular (bicubic) upscale and waifu2x.

cont.

Attached: 165.gif (1125x1600, 1.72M)

>You can immediately see where the line quaility suffered.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. The downscaled Waifu2x output is nearly identical to the original page. You wouldn't even be able to tell it was upscaled in the first place.

Attached: 166.gif (844x1200, 999K)

And for reference, here's the original page.

Attached: 163.png (844x1200, 693K)

And the actual upscale I used (the 1600px page was a downscale of an upscale, too).

Attached: 167.png (1688x2400, 1.09M)

I’m jealous you even have that quality. I’m doig Norio’s other series and the quality is absolutely abysmal

Even smartphones have 2560 vertical resolution these days. If you take the margins into account, 3000px will be a pretty good fit. It's only an inconvenience on laptop screens where you only have 1000px and can't reasonably switch it to portrait mode.

Been chipping away at it bit by bit

Attached: SHSA_JP02PLUS00007540_57_0001.png (764x1200, 1.31M)

Does she have a dick?

how do I contact Das? I’m retarded when it comes to buy raw and ripping stuff

Discord. Although I think he might also show up in these threads on occasion.

hold on is that font Wildwords

No

is it ok if you post his name tag here?

Just ask here, someone will probably hook you up and you won't even have to put them on the credits page.

The font is CCComicrazy, but I'm open to suggestions for a different font.

This was meant for you

what font is it

CCComicrazy

Sadly, no

Das’s condition of using his raws is put his name on credits page? I heard firedumpsterscan use Das’s raws but I can’t see his name and I still see “donate for raws” as their excuse to ask for money

I don't think it is, actually, but you do see his name everywhere once you start paying attention.

The iPad Pro has a vertical resolution of 2732.
People only shit on Waifu2x because they use it with retarded denoising settings. Set the denoise level to 0 and it works amazing at upscaling raws.
If you need to "scroll down a bunch" then you're reading the pages wrong. Stop using your fucking web browser and get a proper comic reader app that fits the pages to whatever zoom level you want. Better yet, get an eink reader.

does anyone know when and why fireden dropped archive support for Yea Forums? fireden had a lot of missing images that desuarchive corrupted

Hold on a second you can get money from scanlating porn? What is this bounty list and credits stuff I’ve just made an e-hentai account recently I’m retarded

In my experience it's less of a condition and more that he kindly asks.

At that point I might as well be reading pages that are only 1080 long to begin with. It's either big and scroll or small and don't scroll.

I think it’s just epeen points

Ripper user should release his stuff in small batches on some private tracker. It's the only way.
