I would say yes, people might focus too much on the deaths happening but the core of the series remains fairly optmistic, just like Fullmetal Alchemist was in its day, there were some depressing shit happening over its coutse the its core remained fairly idealistic and so it had the happiest ending a happy ending can get.

Zenitsu has no narrative meaning to go against Kokushibou, fights on the series are usually about clashing ideals and the such; the only way for Zenitsu to step in if Kokushibou really become the gateway for an all-out battle, with Kanao and Inosuke already meeting with Zenitsu and Murata, it could converge with them meeting with Tanjiro and Gyuu as well, but it remains to be seen if they will reach Kokushibou or Hakime will keep them trapped.

There's also the Dragonball solution, create new threats out of thin air, some people forget that the series really could have ended as soon as the Red Ribbon Army got defeated, at that point they were the ultimate villains of the series.

My absolute deepest fear with this series right now is the editors deciding the series has gotten too popular and forcing the author to continue the story at any cost. So far we already have both the leader of the demon hunters and one dead pillar, one permanently crippled, and at least one that will die very shortly due to magic aids. Naraku escaping is meaningless when no one dies, but this seems to be leading towards most if not all the current pillars dead or crippled. I guess you could continue on as the "next generation" with Tanjiro and his friends, only now with the ticking clock of they're all dead at 25.

Besides the demon hunters being crippled so are the demons themselves. All the moons are dead except for Koku and Biwa girl (for now). Muzan lost all of its elite houndred years old demons whom each had killed various pillars and now only has fodder.

Sure he can quickly get Kaigaku tier demons but they really aren't at the same level than say Akaza or Douma who could kill pillars with relative ease.

Biwa Demon might end up undoing the fortress at any time or she might even get killed

What's the appeal of this manga to you all, I've just started almost halfway but I'm finding it hard for me to like it so far.

It keeps my attention, I want to see what happens next after each fight. I also like the character design and humor moments. Don't force yourself to read something you don't enjoy just because everyone else is by the way.

The humor really works for me. And I like most of the characters. Fights are interesting too. But I'd say it's mostly about comedy for me.

To me it's definitely the characters. If you don't like the characters then you will get bored fast.
